Glad you guys enjoyed it. The song is from the album Hunky Dory - different album to Space Oddity. Another great track from Hunky Dory released as a single is ‘Changes’ which is also definitely worth a listen. While Bowie did play piano, I believe the piano player in this album version is actually Rick Wakeman - very talented player probably best known as the keyboardist in the prog rock band Yes, but also quite a prolific session musician (he also played on Space Oddity). Apparently Bowie wrote some lyrics to a French song and sent them off, eventually hearing the song on the radio. But instead of hearing his lyrics, another writer had quietly bought the rights to the song and gifted it to Frank Sinatra who had a big hit with it as "My Way". This annoyed Bowie who decided that he could write a song as big as that and sound a bit like it, and that's how Life on Mars came about. While My Way is about living life on your own terms, Life on Mars can be interpreted as a girl not wanting to conform to society and going to the cinema as a form of escapism, only to find the it's just more of the same. She feels life must be better somewhere, but it's out of reach to her. As another commenter said, his eyes look different colours but it's actually because one pupil is larger due to a fight in his childhood, the condition is called anisocoria.

What made him great was he always kept moving - as soon as his latest album came out, he was already into something new.
