This song is a perfect example of why I don't think Slipknot, or any band for that matter, can ever capture that IOWA feel again. That energy and beauty of barely controlled chaos actually put on tape. It can't be replicated.

No doubt nothing will touch Iowa. Ask the original drummer from papa roach. They played the album extremely loud and literally gave him a bout of Bell’s palsy. Sid from then on said this album melts faces.

Back in the Iowa days he did allllll of the heavy lifting with the vocals, every single show - I was still just a puppy and couldn't go to their shows, but man, in 2008 when I turned 16 - it was Heavy TO. @@515hiato I concur. I will always love Self-Titled as a close second to Iowa. It's just that Iowa is a lot more dark in tone which is my thing, while S/T is more chaotic, which is ALSO great. I just slightly prefer the darker side of the band. It's a damn shame they've never even come close to making as great of an album as the first 2 overall. They've had some amazing singles sprinkled throughout, and even a few that weren't singles, but the first 2 are the only ones I can listen to from start to finish without skipping multiple tracks. I think the only track on S/T I will normally skip is Scissors. That track is just all over the map and feels more like a jam session than a song. Otherwise, it's damn near a perfect album.

I got to see them in 2004 just before I graduated high school. I drove to the arena with 4 of my best friends. Unfortunately we couldn't get general admission tickets (mosh pit), and got stuck in the balcony. I wasn't happy with that and myself and multiple other fans ended up jumping from the balcony into the mosh pit below (~15 feet). I landed on someone, a friend of mine somehow landed in an empty wheelchair and her side was so bruised the next day. We got absolutely destroyed at the concert. It was shortly after they released their 3rd album (the subliminal verses). I used to watch this whole live show on VHS back then, lol! Dating myself a bit. I eventually got the DVD, which I still watch from time to time in my basement theater! Great reaction! Everyone always recommends the 2009 Live Spit it Out, but my heart still lives with the original Spit it Out from this live performance video (the same one as Disasterpiece here).

Slipknot not only got me through College football, they got me through the college period of my life. When Corey sings "I'm not supposed to be here" It touches the soul of me that's left. As does the bass of Paul and the drumbs of Joey and now Jay

Yeah man, same. The lyrics on Iowa don't always make sense, but they express so well the rage and feeling of not belonging. Not least combined with Corey's insanely honest delivery. The vehemence with which he sings "What the f are you looking at? I'll tell you what you're looking at: Everyone you ever f'ing LAUGHED AT" resonated so with me as a teen, and still does 20+ years later. I've found a lot of comfort thrashing and screaming to this over the years.

Slipknot's first three albums helped me so much through middle and high school. Parents would've KILLED me if they found out I listened to them, lol. Three albums later, I still can't get enough. Can't wait to see what the next one brings...

I got to see Slipknot in Florida at Ozzfest in 2001. It was probably the best concert I've been too. This was maybe a month before their Iowa album came out and they did a bunch of songs from it. It was our first time hearing these songs. It was so good.
