You love the sound of the 80s, I highly recommend "UNE AUTRE HISTOIRE" by Gérard Blanc. 👌🏽 He's a man but who doesn't sing with deep voice. At the beginning, it starts soft then it increases in power with the claps then the electric guitar, to arrive, in the 2nd part, with intense bass and a good drums ! 🤩 I'm sure it's totally your style, and it's one of the big french hits of the 80s. 😉

  • @LetsChillPage

Hello Dereck, In France, we outed of the 70s with French singers who was search a second breath cause they went to pass the two last decade to almost only sing american song covers. So the new generation of 80s singers wanted to be really more creative (Balavoine, Goldman, Berger, Gainsbourg, Nougaro, Bashung, Sanson, etc.). François Valery was know in 70s to be a "chanteur à minettes" (teenage heartthrob singer) . He was forced by his producers to stay within the framework and the role that had been assigned to him. He wanted something else and in the 80s he took the plunge, determined to change that image. With "Aimons-nous vivant" and "Marie, elle danse", he succeeded rather well in this transition, although it wasn't won in advance.

Hello Dereck, There are many artists around the world who deserve to be in your reaction, but it is impossible to have them all. So, I will try to come up with artists and songs that I think are really worth seeing. Among the best known in the world, and if we go back to the 70s, you have Patrick Hernandez "Born to be alive" and in "Extended Version" if you wish. But, to go even further, I suggest listening Claude François with Cette année là", "Je vais à Rio", "Le lundi au soleil", "Magnolias For Ever", "Alexandrie Alexandra",... and the world famous song " Comme d'habitude" and performed in English by Franck Sinatra "My Way". Then more recently and in another register, the artist Calogero with "En apesanteur", "Aussi libre que moi", "Prendre racine”, “Tien An Men", "Yalla", and many others ... And a very recent song and had great success, Clara Luciani " La grenade". Sorry for my English, I'm not bilingual but just French.

A relatively long and busy career (more than 10 albums), and yet very few hits. "Aimons-nous vivants" and "Elle danse Marie" are his 2 biggest hits, but huge hits. Superbly written songs with a fairly complex musical structure. Those 2 songs were the delight of nightclubs at the time. Curiously with those 2 songs he was "accused" of plagiarism ("Ella elle l'a" by France Gall and "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson). My favourite song is "Mon pote le DJ"

Dereck, as an answer to your question, the French usually call this kind of songs “variété”. Although more and more frequently used as quite a broad category, pop was originally used for more sophisticated compositions. Yet there’s a specific category you’ve barely looked into so far called “chanson française” (French song), often less heavily orchestrated than pop and, even more importantly, where lyrics are supposed to be carefully crafted. Far from an exact science obviously but, against these criteria, you would put François Valéry in Variété, Mylène Farmer, Rita Mitsouko in French pop and Lara Fabian (Je suis malade) in Chanson française.

Hi Dereck! I didn't expect this one! François Valéry is a French male singer since 70's especially since 1973 "Et Puis c'Est Tout" but it's in 1974 with "Une Chanson d'Ete" very quickly becomes a hit and will be classified for several months in the hits parade. The same decade he also published other songs and in 1979 there are 3 songs which bring him success as well as a gold record. In 1980, he released "Emmanuelle", whose words to the Song strangely assimilated to the film of the same name which appeared a few years earlier, Also recorded in Italian, it met with success in Italy, but also in Germany and Japan. in 1981 he did a very iconic duet with the famous actress Sophie Marceau from "La Boum" titled "Dream in Blue". His big hit in 1983 "Marie Elle Danse", 80's song with Disco influences/vibes (the most well known). Along with his career as a singer, François Valéry also composes for other artists. Thus, in 1983, the Song "Joy", interpreted by Debbie Davis is the flagship title of the erotic film of the same title. In 1984, he composed the soundtracks of movies and he plays roles roles in feature films both on television and the small screen. During the 90s, François Valéry continues to compose and release new songs and in 2001, he produced the musical "L'ombre d'un géant" ( The shadow of a giant) with Rose Laurens, 80's French female singer. For this song "Aimons-Nous Vivants", it's one of his big hits in 1986, no.6 in Top 50. If you liked this song, you have the Maxi Version! If you want to discover more French male singers, i advise you Etienne Daho (80's and 90's) with Le Grand Sommeil (1982), Weekend A Rome (1984), Tombé Pour La France (198), Epaule Tattoo ( 1986), François Feldman a "hitmaker" in 80's and 90's with his big success "Rien Que Pour Toi" in 1986, Slave (1987): with bandoneon, Je Te Retrouverai (1988), Stephan Eicher a Swiss singer "Combien De Temps" (1987), Two People In A Room (1985), Rien A Voir (1989), Marc Lavoine a dandy and hitmaker very known in France "Elle A Les Yeux revolver" (1985), "Le Parking Des Anges" and "Bascule Avec Moi" (1986),... and many more!
