Celine Dion & Ginette Reno - Un Peu Plus: Performance Coach Reacts (First Time Reaction)

Музыка

Celine Dion and Ginette Reno teaming up with Jean-Pierre Ferland singing un pen plus or un peu plus haut un peu plus loin. First time reaction to this live musical performance of a song that I can only imagine means so much to so many people.

The man standing next to Celine Dion is Jean-Pierre Ferland. He's one of the best song writer and iconis signer in the history of music in Quebec. He just died yesterday at the age of 89 after a career of 70 years long. Ginette Reno is one of the most powerful voice and always had that voice even when she was younger. Both Jean-Pierre and Ginette's are the soul of the Quebec music industry. RIP Le petit roi

She's not worse today, but there is, somehow, even more emotion in that one, cause she was feeling it from deep within. It was raw. René Angelil, Céline's late husband, was Ginette Reno's manager before he found Céline. He told Ginette he would make her an international star. She said no, she couldn't speak English well enough. Then René found Céline. They were almost never seen together (Ginette and Céline), nevermind in a performance. This concert was in honour of Québec City's 400th anniversary and aimed to celebrate Québec's unique cultural heritage. Jean-Pierre Ferland wrote and recorded the song, Ginette covered it later and made it famous, then Céline immortalized it in this concert, played on the very field where France lost its footing in North America to the British, in the battle of the Plaines d'Abraham. It's emotionally loaded to say the least.

Jean-Pierre Ferland is the author of that song . Member of music Hall of Fame in Canada since 2003. That song became popular IN Province of Québec in 1969 or around when Ginette Reno sang it. The show you saw happened in 2008 : 400th anniversary of the City of Québec. That was a gift of Céline to the peop;e of Québec who were behind her at the beginning of her career. 😉😃🖖 At the beginning of her career, Céline didn't know a word in english, she was singing only in french and was and still is very popular in our province. By the way, now you deeply know that even if you don't know a word of french you can be touched deep in your soul by such a voice. There is still hope for Humanity. Thank you very much indeed for your reaction to that masterpiece.

Like a lot of people said before me, Ginette is a legend in Québec, but she is also the most humble, funniest and down to earth woman you can find. I have two stories for you. First, her son owns a restaurant in my hometown and last year around Christmas time, we couldn't eat at restaurants but some delivered and her son's did. Well, believe or not, she actually delivered food to people's homes to cheer them up during the lockdown and sing Christmas songs (she had a Christmas album in the 70s), I was so bummed i hadn't ordered that day!!! The other is a story she told on a tv show. She said everytime she went to America, she would find record stores where you could walk in and record yourself. And since nobody knew her, she'd be like "Where do I stand" "Should I be closer", you know, act like she was very nervous and didn't know music at all. She said she would pick songs that were hard to sing, like "People" from Barbra Streisand, just to see the look on the guy's face, like "Oh, boy, this is gonna be good"... Then she'd start to sing and the guy in the studio would look at her, totally shocked, walk out and call out "Bob, get in here, you gotta hear this!!!" She really got a kick out of doing that. You gotta love her, she's one of a kind!!!

I don’t know if you knew but this was the last song of a special concert to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Quebec City. For the occasion, Céline Dion invited many Quebec artists to perform along with her, culminating with Quebec’s Diva Ginette Reno. The first signer is Jean-Pierre Ferland, the composer and writer of this song.

I'm so glad this video was in my recommendations. What a gift. When you say you don't know what she's saying, you actually know EXACTLY what she's singing. The song title in English is "A little Higher, A little Further" and is about the journey of life, in whatever way we each interpret that journey. You say at 13:30 "sometimes you see something or you hear something and you're reminded that THERE IS BEAUTY." The lyrics she belts at the crescendo of the orchestral melody are: "C'est beau!" which literally means "it's beautiful!". You understood her completely. This is the power of art. Thank you for posting about one of the truly great live performances in modern times. In Canada, Ginette Reno, Jean Pierre Ferland [he wrote the song] and Céline Dion are three of our most treasured natural resources.

The guy performing with Celine, Jean Pierre Ferland, wrote the song, and a few singers have performed it. But once Ginette performed the song it kind of became her's. Her performance was the most emotional and powerful and always remained such, as you can see. She always had, not only a powerful expressive voice, but a powerful presence and projection as well. Un Peu Plus Haut is HER song that she performed for decades. She will always embody the story and emotion of the lyrics every time she performs it. That is exactly what can be felt. But additionally the crowd's reaction... I mean even Celine was overwhelmed and she filled stadiums. Ginette Reno was always a role model for Celine. Celine adores her.

I watched an interview of Ginette Reno a little while back, and I don't remember the story exactly, but I think her parents already had 2 kids but something at the time was making it unlikely they would be able to have more. Ginette's mother couldn't accept that, and she prayed for, not only 'another' child, but a child that would have something special... Well, Ginette was born, and I think everyone in Québec (and beyond! ;) ) agrees that she is indeed very special... ;) For the rest, I do believe that her voice keeps getting better with age (more 'textured', 'rounder' somehow), but the power and emotion were always there. It's like she can't help it: she opens her mouth and the intensity hits you in the face. ;)

I don't know if anyone has answered your question about who the man is. That was Jean-Pierre Ferland, a famous Quebec singer-songwriter. He wrote the song in the late 1960s. Ginette performed it in the mid-1970s and it's been *her* song ever since. In Quebec, Ginette is a national legend. The gratitude you feel on that stage wasn't hers. It was Celine's. Celine's manager/husband had to jump through a lot of hoops to get Ginette to agree to show up that night. Ginette's relationship with him had not ended well. Imagine being as famous as Celine is and the one thing you can't have is to be able to sing with your lifelong idol. And, finally, Ginette said yes. It happened.

And have their own moment, and Celine is singing her ass off and higher. ( just for the informatione) at the end. She doesn’t want to overshine people in general. If it was a battle I’m damn sure she has some cards left in her sleeve. For sure .🌹

Céline and Ginette are both our musical treasures here in Québec. Ginette dropped René at one point as her manager, (she wasn't interested in an international career), just before Céline showed up in his life. Kind of a fate thing, isn't it? When Ginette sings she gets you in your guts as much as Céline can. Later on, Lara Fabian established herself and build her professionnal career early on here in the province of Québec also. We embrace emotional powerhouse voices for the world to enjoy. Those three women can make you cry, vibrate your soul, out of their pure God given talent.

The singer at the beginning is the author of the song, Jean-Pierre Ferland. Another icon singer in the province of Québec (French Canada). He wrote the song for his own album in 1969. Ginette Reno sang the song on a special show event that celebrated Quebec national day (St-Jean-Baptiste day) on Mount-Royal (a mountain in the heart of the city of Montreal). After that iconic performance from Ginette, the song kind of became hers. Ginette has 60+ album in her career. (Includes 40 studio albums). Whenever she release an album, she top the charts for French artist in Canada.

I just saw your very genuine reaction to this MOMENT IN TIME of a performance. You have the gist of the story where René Angelil was Ginette's manager and she "fired" him. Leaving him without a big name talent he was contemplating going back to school when this new talent presented itself. As for this event... it was part of a series a huge free concerts organized by the city of Québec for it's 400th anniversary. back in 2007. This concert was the "cherry" of the concert with Céline ( arguably the most famous Québecoise) headlining and with a series of French Canadian stars. The concert was a celebration of home grown talents and Céline was a Ring leader of sorts. A guest would come out... they would sing songs they are famous for and Céline would harmonize and they would sing some her songs... it was a real WHO's WHO of Québécois talent. Ginette was the last Special guest and the CHERRY on top of the CHERRY! She is adored in Québec ( you can see and hear why) and the mutual respect Céline and Ginette have for one another is clear. On a technical note... Céline had 2 days to rehearse all of these "duets" often less than 1 hours per special guest... and you talked about "when you are that famous...." well the UNDIVA sang the songs in keys that would favour the guests not her ( you can hear a key change once Ginette started to sing) I have said this often... Céline is a musician at heart ... whether you like the voice or not, the musical selections or not... you cannot deny that she is a great musician and her voice ( a very supple and power voice) is her instrument. She love sharing music with others and this concert what such proof. Seeing Ginette coming down those stairs ( and Céline running up to help ) made me cry and THEN they sang!!!!! It is like the Queen and the Princess were reunited. It really was a MOMENT IN TIME for most French Canadian who saw this.... I hope you get to listen to more of Céline, you will find she is waaaaaay more than what she is famous for musically .. cheers keep on being genuine!

On that night, the song was supposed to be song by another singer but Ginette got the break by begging on her knees. The performance launched her career and was captured on video below - Ginette got an 11 minutes standing ovation. The rest is history: kzread.info/dash/bejne/a2SNqsaQd9zLo84.html

I think your reaction is a proof of your sensitivity! When Ginette Reno sings it touches your soul ! I' ve seen her on a live show and it" s the only time I felt such a thing, her voice is so powerful I could feel my body vibrating as if my thorax was a sounding board ....simply amazing ! And this is a fact that Ginette Reno turned down the offer of René Angelil, (Celine Dion 'smanager)to lead her to an international career . She declined ,certainly not because she didn'nt had the talent but she didn' t want to sacrifice her family life and to much time away from her children! I have the same experience that you've experienced and this is every time I ear her sing ! ❤❤❤ I like your comment and reaction: sincere and natural!

The guy in the beginning you don’t know, he is Jean-Pierre Ferland, the song writer. Important thing to know is that both J-P Ferland and Ginette Reno were legends to Quebecers way long before Celine Dion. That’s why Celine Dion shows that humble respect, like if she wouldn’t be where she is now without respect to childhood idols, such as Ginette…. Love love love. Jean-Pierre Ferland wrote this song for Ginette Reno at first, and he also wrote songs for Celine Dion…. This is our patrimoine, our heritage of french canadian!

You did a great job son. Let me humbly tell you a little bit of background. Celine Dion's late husband Rene Angelil was Ginette Rino's manager until 1980-1981 when she put her career aside for her family. Rene then wanted to leave the show business to continue studying the law when a cassette came from Celine Dion's brother. After not hearing from Rene, Michel Dion calls him and says: "You probably didn't listen to the cassette we sent you. 'Cause if you did you would've call back immediately". It was an original song recorded by then 12 year old Celine written by her mother Therese and composed by Celine and one of her brothers (she had 13 brothers and sisters who all were a musical artists). The rest is history.
