This was written for the soundtrack of the cult classic movie The Highlander. The movie is about immortals who can only die if their head is cut off so they try and kill each other because "There can be only one". This song plays when the protagonist Connor McCloud gets married and there is a montage of her getting older while he stays the same age. Eventually, she dies hence the line "when love must die". Great movie and had a good spin-off TV series.

Freddie came up with the name Queen, asked why he replied because the name is very regal and sounds splendid, although the other band members were not sure Freddie was insistent and the name stayed, Freddie also came up with the bands crest or logo which is not surprising as Freddie had a degree in Art and design, all the band members attended University and the drummer Rodger Taylor has a biology degree the bass guitarist John Deacon has a degree in Electronics with first class honours,Brian May the lead guitarist has a degree in Physics and is also a Astrophysicist PHD, all the members of Queen were absolutely brilliant musicians and all the members of the band have written No1 hits, they were famous for their anthems and flamboyant live performances, Queens greatest hits is today still the best selling album ever in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧, Freddie is also known as the best frontman of a band as he always played to the audiences, checkout Queens live performance at Live Aid which is legendary a 22 minute performance as their was around 20 bands and artists performing on the day, and Queen stole the show they were by far the best on the day, Queen have a vast catalog of outstanding songs,I actually attended Live Aid and have seen the band live on several occasions, great reaction Britt thanks 🙏

Now SIR Doctor Brian May :) Oh yes and the fact that Sir May (along with his father) built "The Red Special".....his guitar.....when Brian was about 17 out of odds and ends laying around the house as they could not afford a real guitar. Same guitar he plays to this day at age 75. I also saw you comment on Brian's hair in another video. He still has it! It's white now but early on he said he wouldn't cut it (Trim? yes. Cut? No) and he has not.

The Queen Crest logo was designed by Freddie Mercury shortly before the release of Queen's debut album in 1973 and combines the zodiac signs of all four band members: two lions for Leo (Deacon and Taylor), a crab for Cancer (May) and two fairies for Virgo (Mercury). Freddie had a degree in graphic art design. Freddie was the driving force behind the band. Even the other members will tell you that.

I LOVE this one. As for the name "Queen", there's not much of a story behind it except for that Freddie thought it would be "outrageous" and could get people talking. Before he joined, Brian and Roger had been part of a group called "Smile" (Freddie followed them around and went to their shows). Freddie knew Roger particularly well, as they ran a clothing stall downtown. They all also went to university together. Freddie gave them a bunch of performance advice ("You're great, but if it were me, I would...") and was essentially waiting in the wings. When the lead singer left to join another group, Freddie swooped in and the rest was history! John Deacon, the bassist, was recruited a couple of years later after a long search.

“Who Wants to Live Forever” was composed by Brian May as part of the score that Queen wrote for the movie 'Highlander" Highlander is a 1986 fantasy action-adventure film that stars Christopher Lambert, Roxanne Hart, Clancy Brown, and Sean Connery. The film chronicles the climax of an age-old war between immortal warriors, depicted through interwoven past and present-day storylines The film version of the song was modified to be album ready and was sung on the album version as a sort of duet between Freddie and Brian. In Queen's live performances, Freddie sings the whole song including the first verse, while on the album version, Brian sings the first verse. John Deacon did not participate in the original recording (but the video does feature him playing a white double bass), and Roger only played some drum-machine parts and contributed backing vocals. The percussion was taken over by the orchestra conducted by Michael Kamen. which is why John was not playing on the studio recording. Here is the video of them performing to the studio version - kzread.info/dash/bejne/kX6o0shxfpivdKg.html. In the movie, the song, "Who Wants to Live Forever" serves as the “love theme” of Highlander, as it adds to the sub-plot of the movie. The main character, the immortal Conor McCloud falls in love with a non-immortal, Heather. The movie shows them loving and living together isolated from the outside world since she would age as a normal human but he would not. Finally, you watch Conor holding Heather as she passes away from old age. It was Freddie who came up with the idea of calling the band Queen. He favored the simplicity of a one-word name, which referenced his androgynous nature and regal aspirations for success. He recognized that it was a bit controversial but that would mean it would stand out from the names of other groups Neither Brian nor Roger (John wasn't part of the band yet) particularly liked the name but Freddie could be very persuasive when he really wanted something.

The band Queen was named after the band’s lead singer Freddie Mercury. He chose the name because he wanted a name that would reflect the band’s regal and powerful sound.

Freddie's unmatched voice and always energy, amazing. With big steps 4:25 he runs across the stage, microphone grasped high, voice & body perfectly emoting. Beautiful entertainment from Queen.

I am fully of the belief that Freddie Mercury had Siren blood in his ancestry. He has perfect pitch, perfect timing, an amazing range, and just perfect theatricity (is that a word?)

I will also chime in that the Live Aid performance is just... Extra. In the best way possible. He knew he was dying of AIDS at that point, and other artists were just sort of phoning it in. Freddie went out on that stage and brought the house down, giving it his ALL. A little background on this song - it's part of the soundtrack to the movie, Highlander, which is about an immortal. This song is for when the first love of his life, Heather, dies. It brings me to tears every single time.

The official version of this song is also excellent. Brian May (who wrote this song for the film "Highlander") sings the first verse and Freddie sings the rest. You can almost feel the drum they use for this in your soul.

This was written by Brian for the movie Highlander. The lyrics had a direct connection to the plot of the movie, but when Freddie sang it, it took on a whole new meaning as Freddie would be officially diagnosed with HIV about a year later (most people think he already suspected his illness at this time because at the end of this tour he retired from touring). I think you reacted to the 2016 performance of this song with Queen + Adam Lambert (he dedicatedit to the victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting). That video concentrated primarily on Adam, but Brian was on guitar & Roger was on drums (John Deacon retired from music in 1997).

Also, I know I've commented many times that reacting to the live version without being familiar with the studio version of a song sometimes can be a detriment, since artists often change integral parts/words/etc... Queen is the exception to that rule. Queen songs are always good, live or studio, and the live does have so much extra energy without taking away from the nuance of the studio version.

Ms Britt, no idea if you know this but I'll tell it anyway because it's good story. You've probably heard of Live Aid, big concerts in England and around the world set up by ex-punk rocker and journalist, Bob Geldof. In London, they filled Wembley stadium-that-was. They estimated 91,000, others say it was higher. The story is he gathered together a lot of the top bands to play for charity and since it was for charity, they basically phoned in their performances. When Freddie Mercury heard about this, he was pissed! He felt they were insulting a good cause and the audience. So Queen went out, blew right through their allotted time and pulled off a performance for all time. Freddie just took command of the crowd. It was awesome to witness his complete control, but more importantly is complete love of what he was doing and the people he was doing it for. There is only one word for it: EPIC!

I just came across your reactions about 45 min ago…so already subcribed. Love ur reactions because you find just the right words to express what your seeing and feeling. You were so right…Freddie is so unapologetically who he is. People are attracted to confidence…but with Freddie every bit of his confidence is real. He doesn’t “try hard” ..he was blessed with a gift to shine a light that couldn’t be ignored. There was no one like him and never will be. Look forward to seeing more of ur videos.

You have to watch the movie Highlander to understand the tracks from the film. This has a pivotal role in the film which is about an immortal being who falls in love with a mortal who dies , and then realises for the rest of his life. This will either have to repeat, or he mustn’t fall in love again. This has to be one of the best films ever made. I think you will love it. As we go into the winter it is a perfect winters evening film

First time I heard this song was from the movie Highlander. Nearly all songs in the movie can be found on their "A Kind of Magic" album. All of it is great. After Freddie Mercury died, it took on a whole new meaning along with "The Show Must Go On." There can be only One.

Theme song for Highlander movie i think. For some background the movie is about a group of people who live forever unless they are killed in battle and their heads are chopped off. This song is played in the movie scenes where the main hero lives with his loved one until she dies of old age. The hero keeps on living since he has become an immortal being. Hence the words in the song "who wants to live forever when the love must die".

Thanks, Britt! Check out Brian May - who started on the keys... and then stepped up to that amazing guitar solo... harmonies by Roger and Brian.... as astonishing as Freddie was, this was a BAND... all four contributed (and as an aside: every single one wrote a #1 hit for the band)... Love your reaction...
