hell yes hell yes hell yes Golden Kamuy makes the list again. opening 2 is so good... also I just want to point out that Paradox is already such a fitting song for Vinland Saga, based on how the show already makes you feel about Thorfinn, even just 9 episodes in. it really is impossible to choose the best Vinland Saga OP... they're just too good. also FMA 2003 is so nostalgic for me... it's one of the first anime I ever saw, and I'll always have a bit of a soft spot for it.

Unravel at 40 is insane. Also "to your eternity" & "vivy" are must watches, theyre both amazing and really emotional. Still waiting for the reaction to Rams Re:Zero ost btw🥲 For me it’s 90% the song and 10% the visuals I usually always listen to the full song on KZread or Spotify and let the openings play in the episode the hear the song especially when I know the lyrics because they usually have a way deeper connection to the story and character’s emotions than most people give them credit for

Lyrics in anime music is underrated. I wish CR, Hidive and other platforms would transtlate them when it's important. Like Kaguya-sama season 3 finale when Sentimental Crisis played, the lyrics would've had another layer of meaning if they were translated anywhere. There is also the special ending episode 8 of Heavenly Delusion, where the lyrics are really meaningful. I could name a lot more shows where OSTs, insert songs, openings or endings lyrics add a lot of meaning.

Gintama has a lot of references to popular anime that'd you wouldn't get unless you've watched them. Alot of references are towards the longer running anime's too. (One Piece, DragonBall, Naruto, etc)

I could never understand this opinion, though everybody are free to think whatever they want. Gintama's plot is not driven by references, the majority of them are limited to design of pop-up cameos. As I can tell after rewatching the anime the biggest reference pool for it is Japan's history but I doubt that watching DB or OP will help to understand the turmoils of shogunate period and references to historical people. There is no necessity to watch other animes to understand the plot, to laugh at jokes and to cry over characters' tragedies. I'd say there is no obligatory to-watch list in order to wholeheartedly love Gintama. Gintama is in my top 3 favourite anime of all time and it was one of the first anime I've ever watched.

@@azbars Oh for sure you can enjoy Gintama without knowing the references, just that its a bit more enjoyable when you understand them. Admittedly half the references I didn't understand but I still love it.

Thing about Gintama....even though you have indeed watched a lot of anime in a short time, a lot of them are either very recent are within a small range of genres, Gintama has a wide range of references across many works, many of them older ones. Its less a problem of amount and more a problem of variety That's kinda the price of having your reaction channel based off popular votes your going to get a lot of recency bias where the only older shows are going to be the most popular ones. Your first anime you reacted to was Attack on Titan as well so you kinda set yourself up with Mainstream stuff being the audience you pull, Slime also is slightly less mainstream but it pulled an Isekai audience. So you kinda seeded yourself with a certain type of voting base.

I started watching anime 20 years ago, have seen a lot of them. But I realize how many new animes I don't know. These days it feels like you've been an anime fan for longer time than me. :D

I don't know how anyone could make a "Top (insert number here)" anime song ranking cause while I have favorites I could make a list of, my obsession today isn't proably going to be the same as tomorrow's. I regularly forget some songs I love until I relisten to them later. There's no ranking at all lol. It doesn't help I have a ton of songs I love due to watching anime since I was a kid. I hope you watch more anime OP/EDs cause there are a lot and seeing a lot of lists like these having mostly the same set of songs and/or series just make me think that you guys are missing out on so much more. Song recs: Inuyasha OP/ED, Hunter x Hunter OP/ED (from the 1999 series!), Beyblade OP/ED (Japanese ones), Yu Yu Hakusho OP/ED, and Fate Stay/Night OP/EDs (from the old adaptation).

I've watched A LOT of anime for a long time, if I were to put together my own list of openings, it'd be based on how the song feels and I wouldn't put them in any particular order. It'd be very hard to narrow them down to 50 or so and would most likely end up around 150-200 or so.

Its opening, not song rating. Visuals should always be part of score. To me its just wrong to only rate song. I think Kuma decide on song only. Other rankers no idea. 19:30 He noticed, that was a score where i had to pause. It also shows how much ranking changes if you switch only one ranker. In your top 40 Domestic Girlfriend was first. Same. Sometimes a song can be a 10 but not the visuals like Fire Force op 2. Personally i think Ranking of Kings op 2 have the perfect song and visuals but they dont blend well together. The visuals are too fast for me to keep up with the tempo of the song but thats just my kind of openings

It would probably be best just to do 2 separate rankings for anime openings : one for the songs, one for the visuals. Otherwise, more recent anime are more likely to win on visuals and older ones won’t have as much of a chance, even if the song is really good. Maybe not no chance at all, but it would be wrong to deny they’d be at a disadvantage.

I think that is a good point, but I don't think it's necessary as long as you mention that at the start. Because they are opening songs. If we took away the imagery we'd still call it an opening, but we wouldn't if there wasn't a song.

Was surprised to see Wolf's Rain OP on his list considering I have been meaning to see you react to its OP, ED and OSTs for a while now. Definitely one of the best anime OSTs.

You don't need to watch too many anime to understand the anime references in Gintama, just have seen the big names, Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, Saint Seiya, Sailor Moon, Hunter x Hunter, of which you haven't seen any, barely HxH. Either way I think you would enjoy it, for example Gintama has many references to JRPGs that I never understood, but I enjoy it anyway.

"Gintama" is a parody anime that contains references to various other anime shows. Well I'm one of those people who rates openings also based on the anime, but let me explain... when I rate openings, I try to do it only based on the song, but it's not always possible for me. It just happens automatically, when I hear an opening, it immediately brings back memories and emotions related to the anime, I can't control it. So for example when I listen to the 86 opening "kyokaisen" I am not able to rate it as I would before watching the anime because the song brings back all the emotions I felt while watching it, so I rate it higher because it is more emotional for me. I can't separate it and imagine the song without feeling those emotions. But this is not always the case. For example, even though Code Geass is my favorite anime, I think the openings are just good not great. On the other hand, I don't really like the Domestic Girlfriend anime, but I think the opening is brilliant and is probably in my top 5 and my dislike of the anime doesn't lower its rating. So it's not like "oh this anime is bad so opening is 4" or "i love this anime so opening is 10", I rate the song, but anime that left some good memories in me may boost my rating. So as you can see, it's not like anime always influences a song's rating, but I can understand people for whom it matters. (Rating a song just based on the anime is obviously stupid)

Domestic Girlfriend op got nr.1 on your list, but only 16th on Nicholas list xD. That 1 from Tsukuiyomi most definitely tanked it's placement on the list by quite a lot.

It's more Gintama is based A LOT on the big three and general anime at the time it was releasing, so you miss probably about 70%+ of the context for a lot of the jokes! It's not that you're too "new" to enjoy Gintama, It's just you haven't watched the large-scale (too long) series that it parodies. It would be like watching Scary Movie without watching a single horror movie.

10:54 I would've put this opening way higher, the music is great, the visuals are perfect, also the music fits the visuals and the vibe of the show. Even excluding my subjectivity (me loving 86), I would give it a really high note.

His Top 50 openings is not based in the first place... No Clannad, no K-ON, no Fate series, no Anohana, no Your Lie in April, no Railgun, no Steins Gate... Nicholas is more biased towards action type of anime

There's no such thing as a universally loved opening, even the most well regarded OPs are going to have some people who don't like it. However, that's a good thing, if everything agreed that an anime OP was good or bad, there'd be a lack of diversity in opinion, which is boring. Everyone's favorite OPs should be different, as different types of music appeals to different people.

@@Krawbs You shouldn't be forced to like an OP because it's popular. There's some OPs that others like that I think are very hard to listen to (Death Note OP 2 comes to mind.)

@@MoltenAshes Clear hate voting sabotages averages. We aren't talking about a 4 or 5 out of 10. We are talking about 1 out of 10 which tanks averages when a small sample size and is obviously not genuine. Bad faith with that stuff.

People telling you to wait out longer are concerned about the parody segments for other big series like dragon ball, bleach, one piece, etc. HOWEVER, that is only a small percentage of the total comedy, and the deeper story woven behind it. At the end, it's all about the "turd" jokes.

The only time I get mad at someone for their ranking, is if they are constantly the only one giving stuff a very low score like a 0.5-2

Its funny how different peoples tastes in openings are... Id give Black Catcher and Red Swan a 10, no question, but id prob give the Ranking of the Kings OP a 7-7.5. Just fun to compare sometimes

As for when you can watch Gintama...at least you need to watch the first 40 to 70 episodes of Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Dragonball Z (at the very least the Frieza arc you need to finish due to 1 power up that Goku gets that will be parodied a lot in Gintama), and 1 of the older Gundam anime (either the OG Gundam or Gundam Seed (granted the former's about 50 epsiodes, the later is split into 2 anime called Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny that total about 100 episodes...you can just stick with the first to get the thing that will be referenced a few times in Gintama...of the 2 I'd say Seed more than 1st Gundam series only because Seed has both references used in Gintama...the obvious giant robot as well as 1 ability the MC has that only appears in the Seed Gundam series)). I'd also recommend at least looking up what Doreamon is via wikipedia at bare minimum as they love to parody it a lot. It does parody a lot of other anime that you watched/didn't watch as well but those probably have the most references. I'd also recommend when doing the next big anime after Hunter Hunter you choose a set amount of episodes to watch from said anime and than swap to one of these others (even if you aren't watching Gintama) as they can be quite long as they're all at least 300 episodes long with OP being 1000+ episodes so you may want to take a break from them for a month or so after you get through 1 or 2 of the longer arcs.

The thing about Gintama is that most of the comedy is referencing some REALLY old references (by today's standard at least) and don't know if you'd be able to appreciate it and I'd go to say that it's a very big percentage of it that it might hinder the experience

7:07 undoubtedly in the top five. Inferno is to Fire Force what Gurenge is to Demon Slayer: the most iconic, but not the best. The best DS OP is Akeboshi. Ahhh I’m so glad to see Black Catcher so high. I’m shocked Fly High was number one.
