There is a full video of the segment where they do a medley of songs. As someone who has listened to all the singers he impersonates here, Merle gets the physical mannerisms and voices spot on. In a video from a TV show where Merle and Marty appear, Merle does the impression and Marty is shocked at how good it is.
And yes Merle (pronounced murl ) was an inmate when Johnny played at San Quentin in the late 1950's. He was inspired and got into singing after he was paroled.

I did not know that. Very interesting 😊

Buck Owens says his name at 3:11 in the video. murl is correct - not marrle

Glen Campbell & Johnny Cash & Elvis Presley were good friends
Merle is probably the most talented country music performer in history.

You're right. He could do it all.
Finally someone reacting to Merle's impersonations. There is a video where Merle was impersonating Marty with Marty there.
He is spot on on the impersonations
This was amazing. I never knew Merle did thse impressions. They were really good!
There's also a video of Merle doing a Marty Robbins impression in front of Marty Robbins at a show.. Marty Robbins' facial reaction is pretty funny.
Yes, those were great impressions! I had not seen that. Merle had a lot of good songs himself. I love the way you always seem so willing to hear all these good artists from “back in the day”. Thanks for keeping all the good music alive! 😊😊
And now you HAVE to do a reaction to each of these songs live so you hear and see the facial expressions of each singer!!! Not only does he get the voice but also the facial and the mannerisms!!! He's so spot on!!!!!! Also how do I donate to get you to do Hank Williams I've just told mama goodbye?

That was great! His first name is pronounced murl. An yes, Merle was an inmate in San Quentin prison when Johnny Cash performed there. He became one of the greats in country music. 😅
Hi Britt. A bit of country trivia for you. Merle and Buck managed to remain friends even though (Ican't remember what years) Merle ended up getting married to Buck's ex wife Bonnie Owens. She was one of Merle's back-up singer even after she and Merle got divorced. LOL. Don't know if you know the guy who was hosting the show there. That was Glen Campbell. Amazing guitar player and fine singer as well. Lots of big hits you might have heard one place or another. Before he made it big he was a studio musician and for a while toured with the Beach Boys and played on a couple of their albums. Hope you have the day YOU deserve!! Oh and a quick P.S. Merle's name rhymes with girl or pearl. ; ))
I'm just to the Marty Robbins one, but that is spot-on! Wow. There is a famous example of this with his iconic The Perfect Country Song song, wherein he wonderfully impersonates some of the biggest names in country music, including Merle Haggard himself.
Merle has so many amazing songs, and I know you would probably love them all. Just so many. Apart from the really really obvious ones, but still considered to be greatest hits, are songs like Branded Man, and, Sing Me Back Home. They are both so poignant and hauntingly beautiful. And then a bit later in his career but still a long time ago, the band that coalesced around him was fantastic. I have seen Merle Haggard before, and not only is he an incredible storyteller and a wonderful musician in his own right, and his ability to sing in a way that is relatable to people, but his band is top-notch and some of them are actually family. One of my favorites is I Think I'll Just Stay Here And Drink. Not only does he successfully rhyme "drink" with "bank", the musicianship on this is killer. The guitar solos are phenomenal.
...Merle does a great tribute song to Elvis, you should REALLY enjoy....FROM GRACELAND TO THE PROMISED LAND.
Glad I got to see him before he died. He sounds just as good in person. Excellent talent
Merle is on The Glen Campbell show in this video. Glen Campbell is another singer that you need to check out. Sitting on the dock of the bay, wichita lineman.....
Merle haggard in his prime his impersonations are incredible. Do reaction s of the performers he did R.I.P. ✌️❤️🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing and liked the look on your face when Buck Owens and Johnny Cash came out.
The impersonations are perfect!!
He's nailing those artists.
Wow, he is spot on.
Merle Haggard is the greatest singe/song writer country music has ever had, Chris Stapleton is quoted as saying that and he's not wrong...🤘🏻🇺🇸
I laugh with delight, I absolutely love this 😊
Merle Haggard was stellar. More please!
He nails them all....
Thanks girl. I’m a 63 year old fan but I’ve never seen this video! I’m looking it up ❤️
Master Impersonator. Saw him at County Hall in '99 and before the curtains opened, we heard, "Hello! I'm Johnny Cash," and everyone thought that we had a bonus for the cost of admission, and when the curtains opened, there was Merle.
He was awesome impress mentioned of this Artists he was an awesome country singer too Hank Snow tour with Elvis Presley in the early years great reaction by you thank you so much for sharing this video with us love it .👍
He's spot on impersonating 😂😂
He was such a good looking man. I love the Hag.
What you saw there young lady was pure talent
Yes Merle was an inmate when Johnny played in San Quintin
Gotta say, you’re great, and you’re just scratching the surface. Keep going, kid. I say that because I’m 82 years old.
Britt you are a joy to watch!
The real greats of Country never tried to rule the roost... they all seemed to actually enjoy each other's company... at least when on stage....
He did very well in the impersonations...
AHHHHH YESSS, SOMETHING FROM ( GLEN CAMPBELL GOODTIME HOUR ) BRITT, YESSSSS! 😊A GREAT WEEKLY SHOW, IT WAS JUST SO SO GOOD AND OF COURSE GLEN WAY WAY WAYYYYYY AHEAD OF THE TIMES!😊R.I.P ☹. TO 2 OF THE VERYYYYY BEST IN SOUTHERN COUNTRY BLUES MUSIC ( GLEN CAMPBELL & MERLE HAGGARD, THE HAGGGG )
They are actually really good impersonations.
There’s a funny clipwhere Elvis does Johnny C and Johnny does Elvis!
His voice wins everyone over
Merle was an inmate in the crowd at San Quenton
Spot on. Thank you for watching younger or older is great. Older though he had lung cancer but sang all the way to the end died on his tour bus
YEAH BRITT, BUCK WAS ON A WEEKLY COMEDY MUSICAL SHOW CALLED ( HEE-HAW ) 😊 MERLE WAS IN THE PRISON BRITT, HOW CRAZYYYYY WAS THAT! 😊
SPOT ON !
Merle the 🐐
I live your reactions. I'm a huge fan of Merle. He is my all time favorite recording artist. The only critique I have for you is his name. It is pronounced like whirl, Merle.
Great reaction Britt!
Merle is one syllable.
Haggard needs to be in the PDC for my mothers generation.
They are spot on impressions.
Loved this clip, had this saved on a TiVo from the actual show being re-run back in the day on TNN. Lost it somewhere along the way through upgrades, user error or something.
Glen Campbell was a super talented guitarist - he's up there with: James Burton, Brian May, Jerry Reed, Roy Clark, Eddie Van Halen & others 🎸
Buck Owens and Johnny Cash were really good.
Impersonations are spot on.
you have to say Merle like pearl
That was awesome
Merle rhymes with "Earl". Please & Thank you! 😂😂
He does great impressions. He did a lot of them. But he has his own style too. You should check out the other guys he did. Be careful with Buck, his Bakersfield sound is nice. But he did a photo shoot for Playgirl so I don’t know what you will find on a search of Google. 😂
His Hank Snow is amazing. Really all of them are spot on. But Hank was the best.
OMG my girl, thank you for reacting to this one. You see 4 legends of country music on stage together. Yes, his name is pronounced Mrrrrrl. Darealdeal
One really good vocal impression video by someone you have had on the channel is "Katrina Velarde Impersonating Singers 3 (Burn) ". That is the one of hers with the best sound, and a selection of artists that a non-Asian reactor would recognize. (The one with the baby in her lap in the thumbnail).
They're good
You've reacted to the first song that he's doing an impression of. "Devil Woman" by Marty Robbins.
There's a video of Merle doing Marty and Marty doing Merle together.
Britt, Keep reacting to country western music and please remember that Hag's first name rhymes with pearl.
There is a short video you should check out of Johnny Cash impersonation of Elvis Presley. It’s a funny video but short. And Merle’s impersonations were right on.
You missed the host was Glen Campbell one of the best voices ever. "Rhinestone Cowboy" "Galveston" and he had his own tv show
Merle (like Earl) even holds his guitar oddly the way johnny cash does to make that distinctive sound.
Yeah, Merle was in the audience as an inmate at the infamous San Quentin prison in California when Johnny Cash performed there. But I don't know if you reacted to it. There are videos of Johnny performing at San Quentin, but I was told that Merle wasn't in prison at that specific time of those recordings. Johnny performed there multiple times.
hank snow moving on Canadian singer
Merle was released from San Quentin on parole in 1960. In 1972, after Haggard had become an established country music star, then-California governor Ronald Reagan granted Haggard a full and unconditional pardon for his past crimes. PER HAGGARD, "It's just wonderful not to have to walk up and say, 'Pardon me, before I do this, I want to tell you that I'm an ex-convict.' You have to do that with any sort of legal transaction, with leaving the country, with anything of that nature. All those things went away when Ronald Reagan was kind enough to look at my case and give me a pardon."
Merle was a handsome man in his younger years.
THE TV SHOW HOST IS Glen Campbell
@BrittReacts HI BRITT!!! HUGS 🫂 I LOVE YOU AND I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS! (YOU SEEM LIKE SUCH AN AWESOME PERSON. I WANT YOU FOR MY FRIEND NOW AND FOR ETERNITY!) I had do what you have to do to give your reaction which is I am now four minutes eight seconds into your video reaction and I heard you say, saying, Quinton Tarintino oh, it is just across the bay from where I live and it is San Quintin prison! And you are correct the song with the acting two as a boy named Sue performed live at the prison, and I believe Merle Haggard was there at the time, and Merle Haggard had said I’m more than one occasion that he was in prison when Johnny cash Performed! There’s no moral choice attraction of course and I haven’t been there in so long. I don’t remember anything about the tour. I only know that I was taking there’s a child in my wheelchair. I know I’ve been back in the wheelchair for nine years I’ve no longer use my crutches the way I would love to Anyway, but no, it’s just saying Quentin not saying Quentin Tarantino Quinton Tarintino is a person ha ha ha! But you’re beautiful inside and out God bless you and your family always. Have you listen to the Johnny Cash song were you there when they crucified my Lord?
There is more to that clip, that is very good, historical music.
Please react to Merle Haggard “Today I Started Loving You Again” original recording
Merle also married bonnie owens buck owens xwife.. Merle had many wives and girlfriends in his life time
M+Earl = Merle
I think this was on the Glen Campbell show on TV.
When are you doing more Rodney Carrington?
Girl you are a very good looking woman No disrespect I’m just saying But Merle is the definition of country music and it’s amazing how he could do impersonations of other artist people can sound like other people talking but it’s very difficult to sound like someone else while you’re singing and Merle did it better than anyone I mean he sounds just like the person he is impersonating But Merle has so many great songs and he wrote most all of his songs and a bunch of songs for other people His favorite artist was Marty Robins and Him and Marty performed together with some of the best country music ever played Merle wrote a song called Today I Started Loving Her Again But before he give it to Marty to record He went to the studio and sang it his self and he said after he sang the song and seen how good it came together He recorded it himself They performed this song on a country music Tv show and when he tells the story of this song it’s very funny Because Marty was blown away at the way Merle sounded when they performed it
Merle and Buck were really close but they didn’t hange out for a while especially when Merle was with Buck’s ex wife
If you like stars doing impressions, check out SNL 2016 Ariana Grande impressions. You will love it.
Just a little FYI on the name. It is pronounced Merle as in curl.
Merle rhymes with Earl.
And it is pronounced (Murl)!
Merle rhymes with pearl
You are so gorgeous
Listen to David Allen Coe Bad Impressions. Jim
Not Mayrele Britt, Merle. Meeerle. I love you
sam quentin Merle haggard went to Prison that song mamma tried
Merle rhymes with curl and pearl. This is not Meryl Streep. 😂
Well merle married buck’s wife so they kind of quit being buddies! Lol
Hi Britt, his name is pronounced as Merle, not Merril. I loved your reaction to this one!
Ronald Reagan, who was the governor of California at the time, pardoned Merle.
Merle... Merle ..... Muuurrrrlllll .... Murrrr=rrrlllllll .... Mur - lllllllllllllll. . ..... ..... NOT 👹 .... Mare ------ illlllllll .. Come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnn ! Geez
I don't think Britt has done any Juice Newton or Charlie Pride ... Am I wrong? Someone please correct me if I am..
Very good impersonations! Not to nitpick, but his name is Merle, not Merrill.
Please. Say Merl - Murl
It's Merle Dear,NOT Meryl
