Get your feet wet on Baby Lion's Back! This is a cool 300 yard long sandstone fin that you can drive up and over. The beginning and ending parts are steep just like parts of the Hell's Revenge Trail, but this obstacle will help you get the feel for exactly how much traction you have on the Moab "slickrock", and you will quickly learn that it is not really slick unless it is sandy or wet and is more like sandpaper. Baby Lion's Back should not be confused with the main Lion's Back where the infamous Chevrolet K5 Blazer lost its brakes and crashed. The main Lion's Back is on private property. My 35" tires were aired down to 14 psi, transfer case was shifted to 4-low, transmission put in 1st gear and you will just climb it easily. I rarely use lockers on trails like this and did not have lockers engaged in this video as there is no need. I only engage my lockers on climbs like Escalator or Hell's Gate.

    Amazing video! I just got back to CT from visiting a friend in Moab. We flew into Denver and drove old gold mines area firt road, then hit Telluride and off to Orvis natural hot springs( clothing optional). Then off to Moab Utah to hit Arches national park, canyonlands and many local spots. On Thursday which was 2 days ago we rented a can am 4 seat turbo UTV to bring 3 women I was with. We did Hurrah pass to chicken corners and Kanes creek, then had just enough time to hit Baby's Lions Back, devils pass and a few others. I'm a East coast guy so it was my first time in the Rockies. I can tell you this, if you haven't been, put all that on your bucket list. It changed my outlook on life and the people are amazing. Their not super huge fans of out of towners but they are always willing to help no matter what. Thanks for this video as the girls go so scared their videos kept going off when they freaked out lol. You can do 1/2 day 5hr rental, or full 10hr, or 24hr rentals. They are only about 40.00 difference between them.

    Can't wait to get out there this summer! Planning on doing Fins and Things, Hell's Revenge, Elephant Hill and possibly Top of the World. A stock JLUR should be able to handle those trails right? The most experience we have in Moab in particular is stopping and checking out Gemini Bridges on our way from Vegas to Ouray last year.

    Heck yea! You will be fine. I think your rig has 33s? I haven’t run Top of the World but probably will soon. I don’t think you will have an issue. Hells Revenge has enough bypasses you can take if you need to. Fins and Things won’t be a problem. There are a couple rocky sections on Elephant Hill that will just require some spotting and careful driving but I wouldn’t hesitate to take your rig on any of those trails. - Geoff

    @@Colorado4x4 yeah the KO2 33's the rubicon came with. It is a diesel, which actually sits about an inch higher than the gas rubicon's. I figured we'd be good, and if anything gets messed up it'd be the bumpers which need to be replaced anyway🤣

    Oh nice! A diesel! I’m jealous!!!! You got everything you need to do these trails. I think the hardest spot on Elephant Hill is that tight turn south of Devils Kitchen. There’s some bigger rocks there but you will be fine. You might need your lockers climbing back out of the canyon but that’s about it. I would camp at Devil’s Kitchen. It’s so cool. Check out my Elephant Hill video as it shows pretty much everything. Hells Revenge is one of my favorite trails. You shouldn’t need lockers on it at all. Just disconnect your sway bar, air down and go!!!

    @@MOAB-UT we did Fins and hells first, then did a sunset rid on Long canyon. Next day we did elephant hill and steel bender. Tucked tail at the fall because my stock rubicon wasn't having any of that lol. Last day we dropped our trailer at the top of the world trailhead and ran it. Then got back on the road to Montrose. Can't wait to get back out there and do many many more in the area. OnX is a fantastic resource for the trails. Chicken Corners is definitely on the list, and Elephant Hill will be a must do again but exit Bobbys hole.

I had a TM281 in my old Tacoma and my older Jeep and loved it but I wanted dual band so I went with the TM-V71A. It’s been pretty good. Would you know of a shorter antenna just for buzzing around town? I found you on qrz and went to your website. Looks like you do SOTA. You may have some ground clearance issues in the trails up top. I'd lift it, pull front and rear bumpers a and weld up some cages for front and rear and a lift never hurts.

    Is the water near the end navigable in a stock f150?

  • @Colorado4x4

    @Colorado4x4

    It can be deep depending on how much it has rained. I would be more concerned with the bed hanging up on the last drop before the water though. That is going to cause you some issues with the long wheelbase and bed

    I would park at the start of the fin and hike around the side to the back of the fin so that you can take a look at what your challenge is and then come up with a game plan on what line would work best. That way when you are descending you know what route you want to take. You can either drive straight or turn to the left. I believe the left side is steeper and has more break over

    I didn't have a spotter or recovery support with me, so I did a 3 point turn before that last drop-off into the water crossing. Going back down is fun too, was completely empty when I was there so no traffic issues.
