Nah RCA gave her a smaller budget for the video and the vision she had for the MV called for more money than they provided so she spent like a million dollars to bring her ideas to life and have a greater video

Another fun fact, Cardi B let Normani use or team and they came up with the concept/visual which is why Cardi B was upset when less than 2days after the release Normani said who should be on the next remix Cardi B said well remove me from the song. If she wanted to do a remix where was she gonna get help. A lot of artists won't let you use their people but Cardi B did.

Normani is a naturally sexy woman. Normani is a dancer so she has to wear clothes that shows her dance moves the way she wants them to. In this industry nowadays.. yes sex sells and to have ppl look at your videos , you may have to show a little skin. But Normani has always been proud of her natural figure, she’s never had surgery to look the way that the girls in the industry are looking. She’s a trained dancer & gymnast . Lol she didn’t have to wear a lot of clothing growing up doing that so why should she change that now bc of the way the industry is ?

cardi actually heard the song and jumped on it last minute. normani was okay with her on it bc this song is meant to be her “grown woman” song. she’s usually chill and uses innuendo when it comes to sexual songs so she liked the juxtaposition between her more subtle lyrics and cardi’s straightforward wordplay.

The beat is sampled from Aaliyah's One in a million, its supossed to have a 90s RnB vibe similiar to how TLC,Aaliyah and Destinys child were in the in the 90s prime of Hip HopR&B and dance music(notice the locations and dance formations as well). Hope that helps Im mixed race black and hispanic also gay and grew up with legends like that so might have a cultural advantage there haha. I love this song and really love how it paid homage but also reallybmakes Normani stand out as an artist. RIP AALIYAH and Lisa "Lefteye" Lopez.

The age of MTv (late 90s on) changed pop music so that pop stars had to look a certain way to be successful. To the detriment of the genre, in my opinion. I'm sure we all missed out on some phenomenal artistry because they weren't "TV friendly". The age of KZread and artist promoting their own work on line is starting to slowly reverse this. Talented artists are garnering large followings online, regardless of whether they fit a narrow cookie cutter attractiveness, but this bias still exists. Normani is one of the most talented performers in the business, but has had trouble getting industry support and publicity, in my opinion because she is not a light-skinned woman. But not for internet fans, Normani probably would have never gotten her slot on the VMAs and she had the best performance of the night.
