Hey BCP, I personally knew PRINCE --- In the early days (when he played the local college clubs/ & in Minneapolis, at '1st Avenue', w/the Revolution). His guitar(s) were an extension of his body; his music was always flowing through him..........he'd always be scribbling down lyrics or music. Off-stage, he was soft-spoken & shy, but on-stage he was a force -- it is true that he was self-taught on 20+ instruments !! He did have a wicked sense of humor (look on KZread for clips of him being funny !). I'm so glad you are getting to know & appreciate PRINCE. Those of us who knew him & still live near his studio/ museum (in Minnesota) miss him deeply : - ( RIP-"Skipper"

Prince and his music got me through some of the hardest times in my life, he lived and breathed what he wrote. You could feel his emotion and energy, pure genius. You are a lucky one my friend, much love to you!!!

Hey BCP I hope you're doing ABSOLUTELY GREAT!! Here are the answers to some of your questions - 1. What is "Purple Rain" - Purple Rain's concept is the end of the world. That's literally it. Why you might ask? Well here's a basic explanation: Our sky is blue and if it were to rain blood then Blue+Red=Purple. So it'd appear as though it's raining purple. (Although some people argue that Prince is singing about "Acid Rain" implying that Prince predicted the future of humanity to which I'll say those people are High on something) When Prince sings things like "Only want to see you laughing", "only want to see you bathing" and "only want to see you underneath the Purple Rain" it's representing normal human reaction. Imagine if you were told that the world was ending in the next hour you'd want to make the most of it, right? So Prince is basically crying to his lover about how he wants to spend the last bit of time with her (but she is in love with another and Prince ain't trying to steal her from another) so Prince says let me guide you (although that line is probably from the perspective of "God" more than a "Lover"). Prince singing Purple Rain repeatedly is basically him reminding everyone that the end is coming so be with your loved ones and let Love/God guide you through the Purple Rain to whatever is after it. 2. Is this Prince's #1 Song? If it is then why doesn't it have like a billion views? - Yes it definitely is his #1 Most Popular song. Here's a top 10 (from different sources) 1. Purple Rain 2. Kiss 3. This is from his movie Purple Rain. It's a great movie. In this clip he's going through so much turmoil. He thinks it's his last time on this stage. The movie has everything. Comedy, drama and a killer sound track. Purple is the color of royalty and Christ. Prince was very spiritual and involved with his church.

But I realized its because theres a lot of artists that were so big at a time but recent generations dont listen to certain artists anymore. You kinda of have to be a little familiar with Prince to understand that this a prayer of sorts.The song is reflective of a relationship gone south and he is expressing his desire for this person to seek the glory of Almighty God which is Purple and allow the majestic spirit to manifest upon them, Rain. It has nothing to do with the Super Bowl rain. Its all spiritual. Purple, God...Rain, Spirit. People interpret it differently, but this is how he explained it years ago. A lot of his songs, you have to figure out, but they are potent. In this case, the person became an evangelist.

I think the #1 thing that differentiates Prince from other artists is his versatility. There are 3 primary ways an artists can entertain you: 1. They can just stand there and sing the song....think Luther Vandross or Mariah Carey 2. They can play there instrument in such a fashion that it becomes the focal point of the performance like Elton John on piano or Stevie Ray Vaughn on guitar. 3. They can entertain you with their choreography and their dance moves like MJ or Janet. All artists can do one of these. Some can do two, but I can't think of another artist who can do all 3 to the level that Prince does. Not only that, but Prince could do it with different instruments. His last concert was just him alone at the piano. Happy to see you getting into Prince. Hope you continue your journey down this deep rabbit hole, and don't let any negative comments discourage you.
