Watching the orcs come out with all of our allies was fantastic. And watching the shieldwall scatter was absolutely heart breaking as a polearm fighter. And the party after with the drinking games around the fire were fun as it made my character launching a cow from a trebuchet cannon XD

I would love to go to a larp but I have a service dog and I’m not sure if they are allowed. If so I have a character where his companion is a “wolf” but is more used for my service animal and could be used in the role play

@@maxxxy79 there are larps that allow dogs and even horses. (At least I’ve heard of some in Germany) Depends much on the Organisation, just try and talk to them. But the most important question you have to ask yourself, is your dog able to get along with the situations occurring in time, like fighting or screaming people aso…

"It might look funny, it might look whatever..." Have you seen the way people get themselves decked out for sporting events over the years? Viking helmets, Native American headdresses, cheese helmets, beer helmets, head to toe body paint and basically nothing else in sub freezing temperatures... and it's all considered perfectly fine and borderline normal. Yeah, NOTHING at a LARP would look funny in comparison - if people were rational anyway.

I have been going to LARP for around 5-6 years now and actually met my wife at a LARP event. from what I have noticed is larp largely falls into 2 categories, large professionally run events and small volunteer organizations with more frequent events. for LARPs that are smaller and more volunteer run you get as much out of it as what you put in. (my primary game is Darkon which is based in the baltimore area and has bi-weekly day events that are hanging out in garb and mostly battles than 3-4x/year campout events that are a long weekend of drinking and hanging out in character. almost all the storylines are player driven other than some events which will have volunteers create NPCs for the event.)

My first LARP was a few years ago. Due to Covid and other commitments I have only been to 4 events, but it has been a lot of fun. I have been going to Steamweave, which is a steampunk fantasy horror LARP. My first character was a steampunk Victorian British rifleman, pith helmet and all. He died gloriously... well he had a permanent injury that slowed him down so he was taken over by the spread of a demonic realm and was possessed. His body is still out there somewhere serving the whims of the demon queen. Anyway glad you enjoyed your first LARP, hopefully the first of many.

Frequent flyer larper here, I often fly out to Colorado to larp at Alliance Denver Larp. I also play a archer character and have been suggested to use a gun case or ski bag to travel with my weapons. Southwest allows you to travel with either of those as your second bag from what I'm told. We have cabins that are heated and a friend to leave a sleeping bag with so traveling is pretty painless. So great to see you guys have so much fun at your first larp! Would love to see you come out at some point. We have a mixture of narrative and combat focus and some pretty cool set pieces from time to time. We are even having a ball in October!

So much fun to dress up in character and create stories together with a big group of like-minded friends and fellow players. Wonderful recounting of the first day's events. I look forward to your take on day two. I've joked that five minutes of good LARPing begets fifteen minutes of fun tales about LARPing, but I've learned that my estimates are conservative. Reckoning was one of the best-dressed LARP events I've attended, and the immersion high, especially for a gamer opener. The combination of improvisational acting and cooperative storytelling that goes into even simple conversations like "what is your favorite snow" is staggering, and wildly addictive to people looking for mild escapism and a desire to experience powerful emotions with limited risk. Lord Edwin's guard was named Radovan, and they are both superlative roleplayers. The Hadrian backstory is epic and tragic, and the Imperial characters did an admirable job of conveying that. A few had been present for the whole war, others had just crossed the Wastes days earlier specifically to establish diplomatic channels to the other factions. Thomas and his team did a fabulous job and I've already started improving my kit for next year, as I appeared downright frumpy beside my crimson brethren.

Bad group. But I'm mad keen to get back up on that horse some day! And y'all've given me some juicy morsels of food for thought on the subject over the last year or so of this channel. Props! I love Larping, sadly in Poland its not too popular (don’t know if it is anywhere) especially now when Witcher School will no longer be a thing. Hope you had a good time and you’re such cool people that I wish I could play with you. Keep up the great work

Empire is the LARP I've wanted to go to for years now, but I did the math and It would take over $1,000 to go from here in the US which I couldn't afford. And that's for 1 put of their 3- 4 games a year.

@@Madimistred Empire ofc is great but quite out of my reach for now and probably for a long time. One of my recent goals was to go for Witcher school. It was a international larp event in Poland with both polish and international runs. Couple of my friends already were there and highly recommended it. It was 3 day long Larp in world of the Witcher and I was in love with the series since childhood and wanted to go with my friend but had to wait till he will turn 18. Now sadly CDproject had stoped supporting this event cause there were some controversy with wife of the organization supporting anti abortion or something along those lines. Ofc I agree and I am pro choice but it’s still a shame that we lost it. Or even if it will still run it will be running on significantly lower quality. Nonetheless still love larping and I meet up with friends on some events to do it. Much love

I recommend a folding wagon that you can get at Walmart to help lug your stuff around for set up and take down. I haven't gotten one yet but I definitely plan on it. Also both Amazon and Ebay have a canvas bell tent. It's comparable with a carry bag and can fit at least 3-4 people easily with thier smallest size. I've had one and it was the best! Stood up against a serious Texas Thunderstorm

I've considered doing a LARP as a traveling cook. I'd hand out letters to adventurers and have them post into a mailbox with their names and camping lot. I'd pick a few out and surprise some people with breakfast/lunch/or dinner. If there were battles and such, I'd come in with knives ala Bill the Butcher, as well as pots and pans armor

I find it exciting that there are so many similarities, but also some differences between LARP in the US and Germany. As I take it from the report, it seems to be a very technical and strictly rule-based LARP. In this US LARP then apparently differs with German LARP. In Germany it is more like that, that the rules are considered in the background but rather the game influences the effects. In Germany it is on most LARPS so that the better your game is, the better is the reaction of the opponent to it. Also, most German LARPers put a lot of emphasis on the costume. This means that most of us make all of our own costume and improve it over the years. Many players invest hundreds or even thousands of euros in their costumes, camp equipment and the rest. The claim of most players is to be as authentic as possible in the given world. So on a Fantasy LARP you will hardly see any plastic bottles or anything like that. I don't know how that is with you guys in the US, but what I am basically very interested in. How is it with the game worlds with you in the LARP? Are there fixed defined game worlds / universes that dictate what races and races there are. Do several cons take place in the same world and is there a meta plot? I LARP primarily in the Black Eye world, which is a German pen and paper system. There you have a lot of default. I would be glad about an answer. The LARP they attended was a new. Apparently it was crowdfunded. US LARPs are still reaching the style of immersion types. It's history is based on a competitive culture treating it more like a sport than a role play experience. But it's changing. The heavy rules are to insure fair play. For a lot of American LARPers there's still an underlying desire to "win" not just play.

@@misstressscarlet Ah wow I didn't know that so LARP is considered a sport by some US LARPers? This idea is very strange for me as a German. For us, the roleplay is always in the foreground, or I would go even further and say that out-of-character competition is non-existent. For us, character play and plotting is the reason why we LARP. Of course, we also have cons where factions compete against each other, but even there, playing together is always more important than playing against each other.

Doing all of the things one needs for a LARP in the last weekend before the event is totally normal and still happens with 15 years of larping on the record :D (at least to me) - no matter how long one knows that one goes to that specific LARP in beforehand. I think it's part of "the experience".
