The meaning of the song has many layers. On the surface of it, it appears to be about an unhealthy love hate relationship where you fight make up and fight again. But the video tells a different story as do some of the lyrics that don’t seem to make sense otherwise. It shows a Kpop girl group being successful but then having a fallout between them and breaking up before reuniting again. This story is similar to the girl group GFriend that they used to be in before their contracts were terminated early with just 4 days notice to fans. The fallout though was not with each but with the company who had their own secret reasons for doing what they did. GFriend were one of the most successful girl groups in the 3rd generation and made their company rich singlehandedly, being the only artist in the company for 7 years, taking them from the brink of bankruptcy to becoming very rich. I think the love they refer to is for singing and performing in the Kpop community. It has many bad sides to it too and they have experienced the worst and the best of it. Hence lyrics like the stained red carpet. But the GFriend members are still very close, 3 years after their forcible breakup and have pledged to return again one day. This is reflected in the music video when VIVIZ are shown reunited and clearly ecstatic about being back together again. Umji’s said she found this song very emotional for her because of this deeper but hidden meaning.

UNTIE Performance video is a MUST if you have liked this. B-side on the same album, the girls wanted that to be the title track but the company pushed Maniac.. Well, Maniac was the safer choice, but the girls were right IMHO, Untie slaps harder... The dance, the lyrics, the message of Untie absolute top tier. Also VIVIZ Untie won Best K-Pop Performance of 2023 for a reason....

The 1 the K performance video for their B side Untie is highly recommended. Also their debut BOP BOP which gave them their first music show win just 7 days after their debut setting a new record in Kpop alongside the group IVE. Pull Up is another great song of theirs and every one I have mentioned are so different to each other. They are so versatile after 9 years in Kpop including their 7 years in GFriend. Try listening to Mago and Apple from GFriend too, which are their final two songs before the breakup.

The untie performance video is on the BPM Ent channel

The name of the group comes from their individual names: - Eunha - real name is Eun-bi - SinB - real name is also Eun-bi - Umji So if you take the last parts, you get bi-bi-ji. Korean doesn't really have a "v" so bi-bi-ji would be the same as vi-vi-ji. So I call them VVZ basically. I think this is their biggest hit so far, but Untie and Bop Bop! are also nice. They were all part of the very popular 6 member group called G-Friend. You should check them out.
