    For sure keep bringing up the lyrics for these. Each band member are at the top of their craft, including the singer/lyricist. Maynard's lyrics are always poetic, layered with meaning and introspective. He truly treats his voice like an instrument so it would be best to be able to understand and read what his instrument is saying. As for songs to review, their whoile catalog really but here's a few for now. I agree with Jamie Stevener below, "Pushit" off Aenima, then "Jambi" off 10,000 Days, "The Patient" off Lateralus, and "Descending" off Fear Inoculum. Thank you for coming back to Tool every week or so, I enjoy your other reactions so far too.

    Look up what "your Saturn return" is as an astrological concept of spiritual growth. Almost 30 years after we are born Saturn's position in the galaxy 'comes back around' to the zodiac house and angle/position it was in when you were born. For some reason that planetary energy alignment affects us all with a spiritual or existential rebirth of sorts called our Saturn return. Saturn has different effects on us depending on what house it is in such as the 1st or 10th, "the 1 the 10, ignorant to the damage done!", that can cause personal reflection and growth as astrology states. Tool often touches on many subjects such as this and can get very deep into religion, spirituality, mysticism, existentialism, and more. Saturn's Return is supposed to help us let go of our grudges and hang-ups to grow stronger as almost a new person "lifts you up like a child", or you can not choose to grow from it and your grudges will "drag you down like a stone" and consume you further into your life until you "choose to let this go".

  • @LanceThompsonKssooner
    @LanceThompsonKssooner2 жыл бұрын

    Saturn is the astrological symbol for Karma and can also represent when people reach maturity somewhere between 27-29, which is the same as Saturn's cycle. The stone is a weight that hold you down and is also a reference to the philosopher's stone from Alchemy which was sought to transmute metal (usually lead) into gold. More TOOL! Any song. They don't have a bad one.

    There's a belief that every 27 (ish) years you go through a major life change. Several musicians of note died at the age of 27. Chris Cornell was 53, almost 27x2, which was his second life reckoning.

    Yeah, I love hip hop man. But Tool is the most inspirational and life changing band I've ever encountered. It's smart, beautiful, it rocks, it's just an experience. I know that sounds pretentious but whatever. They can change your mind in such a good way. Definitely watch with the lyrics and not the regular videos. Their videos are stand alone works of art in and of themselves but they are distracting to the beginning fan. That was a 25 second scream on this track btw. Give that a try sometime.

  • @veRGe02

    Welcome to the Tool journey! This album is considered pretty perfect by most fans. It's really something special, but so is their discography. I like that you had the lyrics on your other monitor, definitely a good way to do things. Maynard has incredible vocals and writes the lyrics after hearing the instrumentals. Danny is the best drummer of our generation and one of the best of all time - they call him the Octopus. They were known for their music videos actually, as the guitar player (Adam) is very creative musically and artistically. The bass player (Justin) also is very creative with his riffs. Been around since the 90s and their run of Undertow - Aenima - Lateralus (albums) is one of the best of any band ever, just kept getting better. The last couple albums (10,000 Days and Fear Inoculum) are also really really good, with the former being the most accessible to a broader audience and the latter being really progressive. Their first EP and albums have an angrier and more raw sound, while the last albums have a more polished and progressive sound. They're all great.

    You can pick pretty much any Tool song and be astonished. Some songs are 2 or 3 parts in order to put the next song/songs into context. They have been my favorite band since about 1990. The Lateralus album is the pinnacle of what a band should sound like IMO. Please continue down your journey of this amazing band. Earlier albums are more angry and full of angst. Later albums become more philosophical. Stay true to yourself and be open and this music will fill and change your perspective on life.

    Since you asked, Tool does have music videos for several of their songs (Sober, Stinkfist, Schism, Parabol/Parabola, and Vicarious), but I'd urge to avoid those simply because they are super weird and will distract the first-time listener from the musical experience. As for a follow-up listens, by all means, check them out because they're interesting, to say the least. Tool guitarist Adam Jones is the mastermind behind the videos.

    As others have mentioned, Saturn “comes back around” every 29 years. You’re a different person at each point in your life when it does. You need to shed old grudges by that time to evolve (turn those stones/weights dragging you down into gold). The scream at the end was supposed to be 29 seconds (didn’t quite make it) and is symbolic of just letting go, purging everything bad out.
