The Brother Where You Bound tour was the first big concert I attended with about 17 and it shook my world. I have been a fan of Supertramp for some years already but that was the first time I saw them live. It was absolute fantastic even without Roger (whom I saw many years later solo as well - equaly great). They played nearly everything from Crime and all of this album and their video projections were amazing. It also was John's birthday and they gave him a cake on stage even though he said he actually always comes to Switzerland to buy a watch (manufactured in Schaffhausen...) :D

Tghis is a great opening song on one of my very favorite albums. If you want some more sax, check out "Better Days" and for a real experience, listen to the title track, "Brother Where You Bound". You'll be blown away. David Gilmore's guitar kills.

@@retroreactions.... Dude, I know you are focusing on older classic groups and tracks but there is a current group that you really should check out by the name of Dirty Loops and their cover of Thriller (collab with Cory Wong) that will knock your socks off! The fact that they are managed by Quincy Jones should tip the scales. Cheers!

Wow. I never expected you to like this track as much as I do. One of my favorites. I am now confident that you will enjoy "Ain't Nobody But Me" from Crime Of The Century. As much as I love 70's Supertramp, I was thrilled to hear Rick explore his jazz / funk roots on this track. These guys are great musicians who can play any style of music they wish.

Rick Davies found a groove and built around it...superb.Yes, trombone is in the middle section(along with the tasty keyboard bits). That ending synth solo really makes the song complete(the radio single version/MTV video cuts it WAY TOO SOON). Need to do " Better Days " from this album, after Brother Where You Bound, the best song on the album

It have something from "Goodbye Stranger" in the chromatic bridge like James bond, a powerful groove, Jazz elements, many nice keyboards sounds, it's a Rick Davies song, but something of the previous Supertramp seems missing, the other members are less apparent. Well Roger is gone but we knew it, I'm not sure it is Bob Siebenberg drumming on this title? because the feel of this beat is much too tight and straight, that it could be made by a drum machine (I could be mistaken!), and that makes it relentless and is steeling the natural soul from what there were supposed to be. It's like Rick tried to use older ingredients for that song with newer technologies but didn't succeeded. Sorry I never could vote so high, I was probably expecting more from them. Well that's what I felt.

Perhaps I just don't like change? I 'lost' Genesis in about 1981 quickly followed by Supertramp when Hodgson left. Like Genesis, the style changed... totally different with Rick Davies's jazzy approach. The emotion had gone.

This song was the point where I stopped listening to Supertramp. I'm a huge fan of their 70s music. Famous Last Words wasn't really that great and then this came out. No Roger Hodgson, No Supertramp. Rick Davies was the weaker songwriter with only a handful of good songs. This is just 80s pop with none of the unique style they had before. It only got worse after this.
