Always hear you comment on the guitar, drums and bass but don't forget to show some love for Richard Wright. His keyboards are the glue that holds Pink Floyd's sound together and makes each piece so unique.

So Shine On You Crazy Diamond let me put it in perspective. (S)hine on (Y)ou crazy (D)iamond. This song was clearly written in a very deep Way for their founder Syd Barrett! His name is even in the lyrics of the song which is how deep it is and how much they thought of him!!

sometimes with Pink Floyd there is stuff to hear between the notes...not actually sounds that you hear but the absence of a note. Those "rests notes" give the actual other notes that were just played a chance to breathe. Also if an instrument plays a note and then holds off a bit before it plays another note, then another instrument has a chance to play a note or series of notes during that space. I think that's Pink Floyd is so good at this as you can hear by the way they take their time at the beginning to really give every thing a chance to get set up.

One of my favorite songs of all time, I could listen to this on repeat forever. Gotta check out Echoes live at pompeii, gonna love it and you get to see em in their early days! Also they made an actual videoclip for this song, you owe it to yourself to watch it young man. The background vibe btw is made by glasses of water filled to different levels vibrating, no effects on a software back then, they had to figure it out and do it. Pink Floyd is legendary ;) Shine on You crazy Diamond This song was a tribute to Syd Barrett, original member of the group who had to be let go after going crazy(suffering from mental illness) after heavy drug use. Syd walked in during repetition of this song early on and was asked by the band what he through for him to reply "It sounds old" haha Legend!

I'm showing my age here, but.... this album is what prompted me to buy my first CD player. I had put aside money for a computer (I was thinking of a Commodore), and had visited a friend in Chicago. He played this album for me on his new CD player (it was always one of my all-time favorite albums). They were brand new and the vast majority of people had never listened to one before. He started the album, there was dead silence, and I thought it wasn't playing because there was no background tape hiss or crackles from vinyl. And then the music just gradually came in from the distance and built up louder and louder and was AMAZING! When I got back home to NJ, I took the money I had earmarked for a computer and bought an Emerson CD player. Everyone in our neighborhood came over to listen to it. Digital music was so new it was a novelty, and I was on the cutting edge. And this is still one of my all-time favorite albums.

This album is about their founder member Syd Barrett who left in 1968 and also cynicism about the (then) music industry. This album was recorded in 1975 and Syd actually turned up randomly at the studio. No-one initially recognised him, having not seen him for about seven years.

Great to see you enjoying this song, as you said about the listening looking out a window and feeling a breeze that's exactly what I was doing the other side of the world on a really warm day here, first day of Autumn. I hadn't heard this song until last year so it's new for me too and in my top 5 PF songs now. Of course everyone will tell you about the live versions and just yesterday I watched the Remember that Night version on David Gilmour's channel, was amazing to see the sax player swing over from one sax to the other during his solo. Beautiful beautiful song. Enjoying the PF journey with you, there's still a few I haven't heard either. :)

You mentioned you wanted to listen to every Pink Floyd album. That would be very time consuming and maybe unnecessary. Most people don't realize that Pink Floyd had seven albums before Dark Side of the Moon. Most of those early albums would be unrecognizable to what people now know as the Pink Floyd sound. You should definitely check out the songs "Echoes" and "One of These Days" from the Meddle album. Before checking out any live versions of those songs. The album Obscured by Clouds which came out the year before Dark Side of the Moon is probably my favorite of their earlier albums.

The next song is great also...this got me thinking about; "what are the best back to back song pairings in music history (on an album)". Subscriber # 510 here. I have a thought for how to group Pink Floyd song/transitions. Maybe do them as album sides. It divides the records in half (or in the case of The Wall, quarters). Digesting the music the way it was meant to be digested. Keep going with the reactions to Floyd, Zeppelin, The Who, and eventually copyright willing, The Beatles.

Thank you for (maybe inadvertently) not playing the version with the (fan-made?) video, allows us to focus on the music - and please do the same with the "Wish you were here" song, that video is not very good. I will never forget the first time I heard this album, Fall of 1975, on a late night FM radio station that would play new albums at 1 am on weekends, we were driving home from a gig (rock band), didn't hear the DJ announce the name of group, but knew right away it was Floyd as I was familiar with most of their albums up to that time, and. Have enjoyed it immensely (as well as the other PF albums) since, and for many years did my best to emulate David Gilmore's epic guitar work.

You will see how they progressed from an early band with Syd to their more popular albums. Some of their early stuff is different but pretty good! Nice reactions "Tenacious", a pleasure to see. Some recommendations for listening to Pink Floyd: 1. If you do not want to (or can't) listen to a full PF album, start 20s before the end of the previous song. PF are the grandmasters of transitions. This is particularly important with the transitions from "Shine on... 1-5" to "Welcome to the machine" and "Have a cigar" to "Wish you were here". * 2. Prefer the clips without video. PF creates a movie in your head. 3. Never take drugs while listening to Pink Floyd music. Pink Floyd itself is a drug ;-) 4. Never speak while listening to Pink Floyd music. Every second is important. ** * ... and for almost the entire album "The Wall". ** Nor do you speak during a mass in the church. ;-))
