James' lyrics, or the meanings of the songs he writes, are never hit or miss, this one included. The song speaks on the stigma put on the word 'suicide' itself, not the act of or the shadow of it over you, but the word itself.

Greetings from Portugal Amanda. I'm a huge Metallica fan and I guarantee you that if there is an Metallica album that you should listen to everything single songs, this is it. All the lyrics that James wrote are about mental illness (depression, suicide, etc, etc). Enjoy it and talk about it!

A Metallica video right after the Megadeth one??? Dave Mustaine's gonna be PISSED! LOL I'm playin' around Amanda. It's so cool of James Hetfield to challenge the taboo and talk about lyrical themes such as the idea of death on the "Death Magnetic" album, as a theme through the entire record, or this song where again he's sort of saying "people don't want to talk about this. Maybe that's the problem." Cause it is. I admire that; that daring, that defiance, in the approach. Cause that's what rock is all about. Rebellion.

The inner demons I battle everyday get louder and louder and the pain grows, I've learned to just keep it inside just like this song says and I know one day this will be my end but this is the path I walk and I'm just putting one foot in front of the other.

When you cover Shadow's Follow do one of the live shows; the emotion from James and the lyrics helped me during my really depressed/suicide attempts last year.

Hey, so I know I'm an outsider, but I wanna say, I'm not alright. Very much not so. Never actually hurt myself or anything, just drowning a bit. My win, is that before this "relapse", I've made massive progress with how my mental health is overall. I've also opened up to my therapist. I'm getting better. Or maybe worse and I'll need actual medication for it and then I'll find myself in a psych ward, which doesn't feel like a bad idea but I'd probably go crazy from lack of safe interaction and then I'd dle anyway. This is my small baby step when it comes to reaching out or something like that. But it'll get better, right? It has to.

I teach my son that sadness and such are valid emotions and tears are ok but I not to just cry about every little thing. I teach him that he will be better served to talk to his mother, myself or a teacher about his feelings than just crying to himself or locking it inside. Crying during the death of a loved one is completely understandable. Crying because Dad didn't let you try to skateboard down the roof of our house isn't. If that makes sense?

Suicide is an excuse not an end. I have forgotten of how many friends killed them selves and it’s us that have to live with there memories not them. I bet most can’t live my life and I take it on. I was a mercenary for ten years if anyone had a reason to remove the top of their skull it’s me. I just don’t have the urge to give a self inflicted lobotomy due to the fact it’s no fun. And metal-licka sucked since Burton died. I expect both myself and my son to be strong but not the way you suggested He has no stress and knows He doesn’t have to live up to my life. He actually can’t and I know this so really don’t want him to be a soldier but I don’t run his life or goals. He just knows I will wup his ass if he listens to anything after Puppets 🤣😱😇 He probably has bit is smart enough to not tell me or make me listen. But I also don’t make Him hear my music. My music is all about willing death and just accept the death. Be a Man with no name you never want your child to be one of us

Every brain is different, thus the responses that people have to trauma or life stress is different. What is easy for you, as you said, many couldn't handle. On the flipside, what someone else could handle, you might struggle with. Yes, you have to live with the memories but they had to live in torturous mental agony every single second with no reprieve. I never advocate that people "think of their loved ones." I advocate that you think of yourself and that you deserve to heal.
