Queen performed this song on their 1986 Magic Tour and by that time Freddie knew he had HIV. It makes me very sad when I hear this beautiful song, especially when he says they will stay together until they f...ing well die. It would barely be another five years and he was gone. Uh, no. He may have suspected it, but diagnosis wasn’t until 1987 … and the actual revelation of that fact to his band mates wasn’t revealed until shortly before his death. (Not that it made a difference at that point)

I did some research & it appears that Freddie suspected “something” as early as 1982. It was speculated that he was infected that year while frequenting the NYC gay clubs! Freddie had flu-like symptoms (symptom of infection) during Queen’s stint on Saturday Night Live but told people he had blown his voice out arguing with his boyfriend. Freddie also secretly went to a doctor to check out a white lesion he had on his tongue (symptom of HIV infection). I think that’s why Freddie became The Great Pretender not only to protect those around him but hoped he’d be around long enough for the proper treatment!

In an interview Roger Taylor even said they suspected Freddie had something wrong by the end of the Magic Tour because he wasn’t quite himself and was very tired after their concerts. I appreciate what you added to this thread.

This song was written by Brian as part of their soundtrack for the movie Highlander. The official video for this song is great also. Excellent reaction. Suggestion: Queen: White Queen live at Odeon, Hammersmith 1975.

I always try not to cry when I watch this performance but I haven't been able to do it!!! Brian's guitar is crying and Roger's drums piercing my soul on top of Freddie and Roger's vocals, they were such a superb band!!!!😭💔❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

if you don't love Queen after watching that movie then something is seriously wrong with you.

What an amazingly rich sound from a quartet (as Freddie called them). Power packed, yet maddeningly sweet at the same time. Pure talent.

Brian May wrote this song after seeing the daylies from the production of the movie Highlander. The hero is immortal and loses the one true love of his life as she grows old and dies while he goes on without aging.....

I was at school when this live aid concert happened I remember watching it on tv and buying the Christmas single song to help live aid. It was the first benefit I remember they didn't really do it back then. Freddie was a great live singer and showman . He will live on in his music as will many of our other great artists we lost too early.

I love watching you watch queen and Freddie Mercury. I wasn’t old enough to know him in his heyday but fell in love with him after watching the movie Bohemian Rhapsody in 2018. Ever since then I have been falling down the same rabbit hole. I can see you have a real appreciation for this band and their talent. This song is heartbreaking both in the context of Freddie's life, and in the context of the movie it was written for. I know others have said it below, but seriously, watch the original Highlander movie. It's cheesy 80's action at its finest, probably one of my favorite movies of all time.

I was very young when Freddie passed on but I’ll never forget my mom collapsing to the floor I was born in 83’ and we lived on Queen. The reason Freddie addressed the rumor of the band splitting up is because the British press was trying to push that story. Freddie did some solo stuff, Brian did some solo stuff so the British press were trying to say that the band was breaking up. Queen always had an adversarial relationship with the press.

This song is so beautiful but also so haunting when you know Freddie wrote it knowing his time is coming... Also many dont know this but it was used a soundtrack in "Highlander" movie which is a fantasy movie about immortals :)

It's sad, but beautiful, try Only the Good Die Young the official video. Brian May wrote it a few years after Freddy died. It's the most beautiful tribute. John Deacon (Bass) doesn't sing and isn't on camera much, but he showed up for the tribute. He pretty much retired after Freddy died.
