Freddie wrote this as a tribute to Elvis after Elvis passed. He wrote it in the bathtub…took about 5-10 minutes. He also wrote a tribute song to John Lennon called “Life is Real-a song for Lennon”. He idolized several performers in his pursuit of becoming a legend, which he was. He had great things to say about so many other artists, not that any had great things to say about him. He was The Greatest ever. And Brian--I love his guitar playing exactly because it isn’t crazy, just crazy good and wonderful and lovely and DIFFERENT!!

Every member of Queen has a hand in writing their songs and each one has written a no.1 single.

When this record came out some Queen fans hated it and thought the band was "betraying" their heavy rock roots. I loved it!

The bass on this song is fantastic!

30+ years since he died and new generations are still listening to freddy and queen and loving them just as much as we did when they were still playing... a true showing of pure talent by all members...

Made me laugh when you thought it was Elvis. Especially when they sing "ready Freddie". Remember this when it came out. Thanks for playing it

The song was written by Mercury as a tribute to his musical heroes Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard. Roger Taylor added in an interview that Mercury wrote it in just 10 minutes while lounging in a bath in the Bayerischer Hof Hotel in Munich during one of their extensive Munich recording sessions, which was later confirmed by Mercury himself. Mercury took it to the studio shortly after writing it and presented it to Taylor and John Deacon. The three of them, with their then new producer Reinhold Mack, recorded it at Musicland Studios in Munich. 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' took me five or ten minutes. I did that on the guitar, which I can't play for nuts, and in one way it was quite a good thing because I was restricted, knowing only a few chords. It's a good discipline because I simply had to write within a small framework. I couldn't work through too many chords and because of that restriction I wrote a good song, I think. - Freddie Mercury

Freddie meant for it to sound like Elvis as a tribute. Freddie loved Elvis and wrote this while he was taking a bath in about 10 minutes. I am a Queen fan and I thought this was an Elvis song and because I hadn't heard it until it was released by Queen, I just thought it was something Elvis had recorded before his death and never released. It was Brian May's guitar licks that made me look it up because it did not sound like Elvis's lead guitar players Scotty Moore or James Burton. Freddie and Brian wrote the bulk of the Queen music but both Roger and John also wrote music. They all had different styles and likes when it came to music so they each brought a different element to Queen's songwriting.

Great reaction! Queen could do any genre. They did hard rock and metal as well check out "Princes Of The Universe" from Queen it is from the Highlander movie or "I want It All", another very well known song from commercials.

Al four wrote the songs and the music, some songs were written by all individually with input and refinement by the others, all 4 of them wrote their big hits individually or collaboratively.

It was number one on the top 100 billboard charts for 4 consecutive weeks it got to number two in the British charts. Americans loved it

All Queen members are amazing. Great song writers and performers in their own right. But I agree, Queen isn’t Queen without Freddie. Adam Lambert is good, but you can’t replace the greatest showman that is Freddie Mercury.

Freddie would tell you ,that would not be a Queen sound without the the rest of the band. Thats why he didnt like doing his solo album. He missed his mates. Listen to Johns bass.

Bohemian rhapsody was more Freddie than you might realise. If you haven't already, see if you can find some content on the recording of it. It was more ground breaking in more ways than you can imagine.

Elvis didn't have a band? What on earth are you talking about, ok...not a specifically named band, his backing singers were 2 groups called the jordanaires and the stamps. James Burton on lead guitar, Jerry scheff on bass, and many more. That's besides the point. Queen were a force to be reckoned with, and the surviving members will STILL rock you!!!

Queen released an album with new songs alongside Paul Rodgers (former singer of Free and Bad Company), The Cosmos Rocks in 2008, but, despite containing very good songs - Cosmos Rockin´, Time to Shine & Voodoo, for example -, with Queen's typical variety of styles, was harshly criticized precisely because Rodgers is not Freddie Mercury. Well, logically Rodger is not Mercury, but ostracizing two original members of Queen - May and Taylor - because of an unfair comparison is very cruel. This traumatic experience is what must be preventing May and Taylor from releasing any new material with Adam Lambert. It is worth remembering that May and Taylor have an extensive solo career and were the founding members of the band Smile which, after Mercury and Deacon joined, became Queen. This prejudice against guest vocalists has prevented more frequent collaboration between the guitarist and the drummer who, together, were responsible for half of Queen's compositions. And, in addition, any material with the Queen name receives greater publicity and distribution, making it easier to purchase in different countries.

No Its was established as Queen for a year before John joined Smile had ended Freddie encoraged them to start again with him they were giving up

@@bluebell3720 This is not the point. Brian May and Roger Taylor, as well as Freddie Mercury and John Deacon are founding members and the definitive formation of Queen. But to say that there is no Queen without Freddie Mercury is to discourage a more creative partnership between May and Taylor, responsible for half of the band's compositions. And why did the two choose to keep the name Queen? To preserve the band's legacy and if they called themselves May & Taylor, Smile or any other name, they wouldn't get the attention that Queen would. I really liked the album The Cosmos Rocks, I just thought that Brian and Roger could have taken on more of the lead vocals like they did before in Opera, Races, News, Jazz and Game, for example. But this is my opinion and my opinion should not be more important than the will of the band members. I prefer Queen with Freddie Mercury, but I've also watched shows with Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert and I'll keep watching whoever they come with - as long as they want - because I'm a Queen fan.

Metallica has better riffs? James Hetfield has admitted Queen are a major influence on Metallicas riffs. You should check out some of Queens earlier album cuts like; "Death on Two Legs" or "Liar". Both face melters.
