“A Kind of Magic” was written by Roger for the film Highlander The phrase “a kind of magic” is used in Highlander by Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) as a description of his immortality. Roger liked the phrase so much that he used it as inspiration for the song. There are references to the film in the lyrics: “one prize, one goal”; “no mortal man”; and “there can be only one”. The single’s cover art features an image of Clancy Brown in character as the film’s villain, The Kurgan. Roger wrote the melody and chords for the version that appeared in the film, which Brian described as “quite lugubrious and heavy”. Freddie really liked the song but he kept hearing it differently in his head. So when Roger went on holiday, Freddie composed a new bass line, added instrumental breaks, and changed the song’s order to make it more chart-friendly. Then Freddie and David Richards produced this new version. When Roger returned from holiday, Freddie played Roger his new version of the song. Roger was rather annoyed but had to admit that it sounded better. The song was still credited only to Roger. While Roger’s version is at the end of the film, Freddie’s version appears on the album, the video, and is what they performed in concerts. Roger’s version of A Kind of Magic did not see official release until it was included on the extra EP for the 2011 special edition of the album. FYI - Brian did not use his famous Red Special guitar in the music video, but instead a 1984 copy. Apparently, the theatre they filmed lacked central heating and was very cold, much to the discomfort of the band and the crew. Brian didn't want to risk damaging the Red Special. BTW - though I enjoy the studio version of the song, I prefer the live version - kzread.info/dash/bejne/a3x7xMSdibXOdtY.html

Freddie gets all the attention due to his vocals and stage presence, however, queen also would not be queen without john, Brian and Roger, they wrote a nunber of their hits and particular riffs, so they were a band of unique talents that combined to make queen great

Hey Guys… As with most of Queen’s songs, LIVE is EVEN BETTER. The live version of “It’s A Kind Of Magic” On FRIDAY, JULY 11, 1986 At Wembley Stadium… Is LEAGUES BETTER than the studio recording! YOU REALLY SHOULD SEE IT!! (Because HONESTLY… NOTHING beats Freddie’s vocals live.) (With Wembley performances: You should specify the date, because there were TWO 1986 Queen Wembley concerts back-to-back on consecutive nights… Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12. Some performances were best on Friday, some were best on Saturday.)

Not sure, but the exterior of the round building looked like the Greenwich observatory, built 1675. I wouldn't swear to it but it may have been a part of the observatory called the Great Equatorial Observatory. I may well be mistaken. Interesting because Brian May had a Masters degree in astrophysics. After Freddie died Bryan went back to university and gained his PhD in astrophysics.. In 2007, he submitted his doctoral thesis in astrophysics on the subject "A Survey of Radial Velocities In The Zodiacal Dust Cloud.". A very intelligent gentleman (Doctor now).

@@happilyeggs4627 if you ever get a chance to visit it and Greenwich, take it! There is so much to see and do - not just the Observatory etc, the Meridian Line etc but the Royal Naval College, the huge tea clipper, the Cutty Sark and the Park itself. From the top of the Park, (Blackheath) it’s a very steep hill and you can see right across to Docklands and see all the new (ish) buildings going up (and the O2). The sight of Docklands changes yearly as so many buildings are “going up” - when I was young, you could look across and see nothing! It was just a desolate landscape - now it’s a major financial and commercial workspace! As a school kid, no school term was complete until the obligatory and yearly visit to Greenwich and its historical places - with a clipboard, pencil and a set of questions we had to answer about the Observatory and the Maritime Museum! All good fun … really…unless you didn’t check your answers and got told off by Teacher! 😳😄

You won't be disappointed, but it is a rabbit hole that you may never get out of. ;) For Romanticide and Ghost Love Score, you want Wacken 2013 and for High Hopes you want the End of an Era version.
