    One of my favorite Pink Floyd songs and one of my favorites in general. This song is the definition of a bittersweet song. It looks back when times were better and "life was sweeter." In a way it's a coming of age story. The "ringing of the division bell" to me signifies that point in your life when adulthood sets in an you no longer have that carefree spirit you had as a child. For some that time comes way too soon while others are lucky to hang onto it for longer.

    More about looking back at the dreams and ambitions of youth that are unrealised as you look back on life from old age, the bridges that were burned, the ideas that never came to pass and how when you look back to that youth things looked so much better, the grass was greener and so on, certainly strikes a chord with me as I near my 6th decade.

    The Lap Steel solo at the end gets me almost every time. After listening to the main body of the song with its lyrical meaning and reflection on the past the solo at the end is like another verse but rather than lyrics it is literally all feeling and emotion bringing all the thoughts and emotions the song conjures to a stunning climax. The last track on their last proper album and probably the most beautiful track the band ever recorded.

    I have struggled now for two years trying to decide what my favourite Pink Floyd song is? I toggle between Comfortably Numb, On the Turning Away and this one High Hopes. The guitar solo in Numb is probably the best live solo ever recorded (by anybody). The subject matter and another amazing guitar solo in Turning Away is also epic…..but I really get “struck” with the (emotion) and the slide guitar solo of the song. It is just superb. Then there is Sorrow and so many others. Pink Floyd is just in a class by themselves.

    Pink Floyd is good at making you feel a certain way by the way they structure their music. A crescendo will make your spirit soar or a pulsing bassline will give you an ominous sense of foreboding. They set the mood and you gotta feel it!

  • @scozz6139
    @scozz61393 жыл бұрын

    The instrument David Gilmour, Pink Floyds guitarist, is playing is called a Lap Steel Guitar. It's basically a guitar that is played in your lap sitting. Instead of using a pick to play it, a "Slide" is used. It's a cylinder shaped object made of metal or glass usually, and you use to slide up and down the strings to create that very smooth transition from note to note. I enjoy your Pink Floyd reactions and I would love to see you react to "Comfortably Numb" from the Pink Floyd Pulse Concert 1994. Pink Floyd has always been known for their elaborate light shows at their concerts, and the Pulse Concert is no exception! It's an incredible performance of music and lighting that will likely never be reproduced!

  • @Thomas-we5cy

    Did you notice the hummingbird singing in the beginning? It’s a take off from the song “Grantchester Meadows” from the 1969 album Ummagumma. The beginning of that song also starts with the sound of a hummingbird. This is really nice song from the later albums. Live shows were great. Keep reacting to Pink Floyd! 🙏

The light show was like the entire place was part of the stage it was so immense... BUT, as truly IMMENSE as the show was, the MUSIC WAS BIGGER, MORE GRAND...truly an epic event. I've been to more shows for many genres of music than I could ever count, and that will always be the best. SO GRAB PULSE and if you get a chance, let us know how you like it ma'am!
