Lyrics: Pink Floyd - High Hopes
[Verse 1]
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world filled with magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
[Chorus]
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
[Verse 2]
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
[Instrumental]
[Verse 3]
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times
[Chorus]
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river
For ever and ever
[Instrumental]
[Outro]
"Is that Charlie? Hello Charlie!
Great..."

Beautiful song. Nightwish did a cover of this song many years ago.You need to hear what they did with this song. If you want to do it, do the live version from the End of an Era show. I think you will really enjoy it. Pink Floyd is an amazing band................ :-)

@@Detrucci I'd say they are about equal. It depends on my mood. "High Hopes" is my favorite post-Roger Waters era Floyd song. It's such a grand and moody EPIC! Nightwish's version concentrates the power of the song into a slightly tighter, heavier space. That's the only way I can think to put it.

Detrucci, these albums are like TOOL. It would be like only hearing Parabola without Parabol. Or lost Keys without Rosetta stoned. Do yourself a favor and pick an album like Wish you were here or Darkside of the moon or Animals and begin at track one until you finish the album. Floyd is the Master of the concept album and telling stories. The engineering is phenomenal. I hear something new and different with every listen.

Thanks again, I'm really glad you're enjoying this. High Hopes is one of my favourites, that melancholic slide guitar solo is so incredibly beautiful. I think I'll keep recommending live songs for a while. My next recommendation is On The Turning Away, live from Delicate Sound Of Thunder (1988). I'll give you a direct link again: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z2hlldmsZ6vefps.html. It's got another fantastic guitar solo. The Final Cut is not a classic album and Meddle, Atom Heart Mother and Obscured By Clouds are more worth listening to. I find The Final Cut to be possibly the most boring and tasteless album by Floyd (Waters). Pretty good lyrically because its Waters' lyrics, but musically its just so meh.

Can you react on their song which is not often in reactions (it's not even in their top 20 list for many people) MATHILDA MOTHER, from first album. That song got something, but it's underrated. Second, I would like to see you react on one song from my country. Blues in a park or in original BLUZ U PARKU, group SMAK. Please, I'm interested about emotion it will (or not?) produce to you. 🙏🙂 Don't mind the lyrics, it's Serbian, you will not get it, just listen melody and tell me what are you feel. Thanks man, and wish you all the best 🙂

@@alanpeterson4939 Well, he COULD do that ... but I think there's considerable merit in starting with their first release and doing the whole discography chronologically: as with the albums individually, the sequence of releases creates a narrative that can be 'read' from the early psychedelic pop songs and Barrattesque whimsy through experimental space rock and film scores to the prog mastery of Meddle to The Wall and beyond. In my humble opinion of course ;)
