Lyrics: Pink Floyd - High Hopes
[Verse 1]
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world filled with magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
[Chorus]
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
[Verse 2]
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
[Instrumental]
[Verse 3]
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times
[Chorus]
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river
For ever and ever
[Instrumental]
[Outro]
"Is that Charlie? Hello Charlie!
Great..."

its one band that never gets old listening to.
Beautiful song. Nightwish did a cover of this song many years ago.You need to hear what they did with this song. If you want to do it, do the live version from the End of an Era show. I think you will really enjoy it. Pink Floyd is an amazing band................ :-)
Man does David play that lap steel so sweet...
On my top 5 Floyd songs. Beautiful
As a Super Fan of Pink Floyd... this song eluded me until 2005!! ~great song * that guitar is called a Steel Guitar usually used in Country music.
I love the Division Bell album. I'm bingeing at the moment like a rampaging quasar.
Sublime. That was incredible. That was 1994 by the way.
You must react to "One of these days" and "Sorrow" both from Pulse 1994

Agree!!
After having my VHS tapes of Pulse stolen 20 years ago, I finally bought the DVD. I'm watching it now. :)
I've heard this song countless times, but it still sending chill down my spine.
Damn, I love this song!

Which version do you prefer, Pink Floyd or Nightwish? :)

@@Detrucci I'd say they are about equal. It depends on my mood. "High Hopes" is my favorite post-Roger Waters era Floyd song. It's such a grand and moody EPIC! Nightwish's version concentrates the power of the song into a slightly tighter, heavier space. That's the only way I can think to put it.
Another outstanding, honest reaction. Thank you!
Best song they ever did without Roger, in my opinion. And I live for those keyboards under the solo at the end. So moving.

yes the string arrangement is incredible.
The Live Pulse version of Keep Talking is also amazing, you might wanna check it out.
Absolutely love this performance, spectacular & flawless. Was lucky to attend one of their concerts in the 80’s, amazing band
This is PF at their ultimate. No one can touch this. I wonder....does anyone know.....did they use the pedal steel guitar in any other songs? I listen to the song almost every day, sometimes 4-5 times in one day....plus Comfortably Numb from the same concert.
I'm a big fan of Pink Floyd, even though I'm 26 years old, I've been listening to them for a few years and recommend something from the old days and a bit different but still beautiful Pink Floyd - I recommend Grantchester meadows from the video
Thumbs up this time, you showed much more respect to the music that was playing.
ladies and gentlemen....and now: "one of these days"puls live 1994!! :p
The Floyd are very much visual and symbic band ..from movies to artwork and of course the circle of light
Keep talking, also from pulse. Awesome talkbox solo in the end.
Shine on you crazy diamond, or sorrow next please
Great gig in the sky live
This is Masterpiece 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I think this is the first reaction video I have seen for this song. Amazing!
If you liked it, the best advice now is "enjoy the full concert" ;-)

Exactly. The whole concert is amazing.
The piano type of guitar is called an Electric Steel Guitar. Welcome aboard the Floyd Flotilla, this band takes you places you never knew existed.
Detrucci, Richard Wright was an amazing keyboardist. You have to remember synths were relatively new, all analog and no MIDI.
@revylokesh1783

New when? In '94? Synths had been around for a good 25 years then. MIDI since the 80s, too.
You resonate well :) Peace!
Great reaction men. Keep going react to Pink Floyd. 🙂

Shine on You crazy Diamond parts VI- IX is more pedal steel from Dave Gilmour and excellent keyboard from Rick Wright.
Detrucci, these albums are like TOOL. It would be like only hearing Parabola without Parabol. Or lost Keys without Rosetta stoned. Do yourself a favor and pick an album like Wish you were here or Darkside of the moon or Animals and begin at track one until you finish the album. Floyd is the Master of the concept album and telling stories. The engineering is phenomenal. I hear something new and different with every listen.
The Pulse Concert is such an experience. I regularly pull out the DVD to watch the whole concert. And, on KZread there are many remastered videos that are even better than the DVD. High Hopes is such an interesting song. The bell and keyboard seems out of sync at times. Great reaction!
Thanks again, I'm really glad you're enjoying this. High Hopes is one of my favourites, that melancholic slide guitar solo is so incredibly beautiful. I think I'll keep recommending live songs for a while. My next recommendation is On The Turning Away, live from Delicate Sound Of Thunder (1988). I'll give you a direct link again: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z2hlldmsZ6vefps.html. It's got another fantastic guitar solo. But there's no rush, I'm sure other commenters want to see their requests as well :)

That was going to be one of my suggestions. It's a great song, live, but not Pulse.

You beat me to it, was about to recommend the song too! High Hopes and On The Turning Away for me are the highest points of the Post-Waters songwriting of PF. Easily within my top 10 Floyd songs, these two.

I'd recommend Set the Controls for the Heart of Sun from Live in Pompeii or Echoes from Gilmour's Live in Gdansk, although I'll sit and watch you sitting and listening to any Floyd albums/tracks tbh 😁
Try To listen the version of David Gilmour live in gdansk with orchestra and classic guitar at the end
NIGHTWISH HIGH HOPES COVER !!!
I recommend "live at Pompeii" David Gilmore.
ringing of the bell represents the opening of Parliament where the division starts between party's.: hence the leaving of Roger and about continuing as a band.
Since you seem to like the live stuff... Try David Gilmour Sorrow live Pompeii.

Alan Peterson, I prefer Pulse, although Pompeii is excellent, Pulse is better IMO.
Try Echoes pls
You need to check out Pink Floyd Brain Damage
Us and Them from The Dark Side of the Moon. audio version.
For most bands this song would be an encore or even a finale. Fot Pink Floyd it was the just the 3rd song....
Dude, Reaction to One Of These Days (Pulse Live). Then do yourself a solider listen to Dsrk Side Of The Moon in one sitting. Same goes for Wish You Were Here. Next suggestions Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut again in one sitting. If you would like I'd gladly send you a list of classic album for your enjoyment. Welcome to The Machine Brother
@DonHaka

The Final Cut is not a classic album and Meddle, Atom Heart Mother and Obscured By Clouds are more worth listening to. I find The Final Cut to be possibly the most boring and tasteless album by Floyd (Waters). Pretty good lyrically because its Waters' lyrics, but musically its just so meh.
Watch the High Hopes AOL video for a better David Gilmour solo on acoustic guitar and the slide guitar.
Keep watching/listening to Pulse. That was a steel guitar that he was playing. I’ve also heard of them being called a steel slide guitar.
Give GDansk Version a try :) Best Version 4 me XD
Dude, I'm glad that you finaly hear some real music 😉 PF are the coolest bend in the world, believe me. Can you react on their song which is not often in reactions (it's not even in their top 20 list for many people) MATHILDA MOTHER, from first album. That song got something, but it's underrated. Second, I would like to see you react on one song from my country. Blues in a park or in original BLUZ U PARKU, group SMAK. Please, I'm interested about emotion it will (or not?) produce to you. 🙏🙂 Don't mind the lyrics, it's Serbian, you will not get it, just listen melody and tell me what are you feel. Thanks man, and wish you all the best 🙂

My favourite song from that genius. End in live performance is just like a poem. (I don't like poems)😅
Do Shine on you Crazy Diamond if you haven't already.
IMHO ... please react to what I consider to be a better version of Pink Floyd "High Hopes" ... David Gilmour's "High Hopes (Live at Djansk)". You will hear an amazing slide guitar solo followed by an amazing acoustic guitar to end the song.
As you've been listening to and enjoying Nightwish recently, you may be interested in hearing them doing a version of High Hopes live: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZqN5ptCPlby_qbA.html
♥️🤫 That one was very mellow. I think the next one from Pink Floyd should be Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Live at Pulse. I almost guarantee this will become a top favorite ! kzread.info/dash/bejne/iK2Au5qSdLrgorQ.html Edit: Oh my goodness, I'm listening again right now. You're gonna be amazed at this one. I can't wait for you to hear it!!
Just in case nobody's told you yet, Nightwish have covered this song in the past. High Hopes - Nightwish kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZqN5ptCPlby_qbA.html
If you loved that then I think you would really enjoy the Gdańsk performance which finishes with an incredible acoustic solo too kzread.info/dash/bejne/aJ56mM6MpMq-hKw.html
Another brick in the wall same concert
You really shouldn't be reacting to Pink Floyd songs. You should be reacting to Pink Floyd ALBUMs.

When he gets past the live stuff, he should start at the beginning of Dark Side and go straight through to the finish.
@richardthresh3587
4 жыл бұрын
@@alanpeterson4939 Well, he COULD do that ... but I think there's considerable merit in starting with their first release and doing the whole discography chronologically: as with the albums individually, the sequence of releases creates a narrative that can be 'read' from the early psychedelic pop songs and Barrattesque whimsy through experimental space rock and film scores to the prog mastery of Meddle to The Wall and beyond. In my humble opinion of course ;)
Keep talking from the same concert will scramble your eggs
Now that you've reacted to Pink Floyd's High Hopes you're ready for Nightwish's version at the End of An Era DVD from 2005. ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZqN5ptCPlby_qbA.html )
