To actually take this song in to its fullest is to listen to the studio version so you could hear how Cliff played it. Rob is good but the reason this song is so great is Cliff on the bass, it is truly a masterpiece.

Yes, you cannot have the same experience on the first decade of Metallica without Cliff. There's a reason they don't play some older songs live. Some out of respect, others because no other bassist can do what Cliff could.

I have been saying that for the last 3+ Metallica songs they have reacted to. I’m glad I’m not the only one who wants to see that reaction. Such a poignant and powerful song when you know the story behind it. Really heavy stuff and imagine James as a child screaming in pain in those lyrics. With their instrumental kick, I want so bad for them to do Pulling Teeth. That song you see the true beauty that made Cliff Burton something special. It’s also why I personally feel that if there was no Cliff Burton, we wouldn’t have Metallica.

The mainstream intro to the band would be "Walk" but there are so many great songs to choose from by them. Personally, I would highly recommend "Domination" but you guys already did it 3 months ago. 'Orion' was the instrumental on the 1986 album 'Master of Puppets'... (Metallica was from the 80's) It was largely the work of bassist Cliff Burton, who was killed in a tour bus accident in 1986 at age 24 and he was a schooled musician. If u listen to the studio version, there's the quiet section w/ bass that sounds like a cosmic soundtrack and a very sad, mournful solo from Kirk Hammett... It was almost like Cliff Burton had an inkling that he was not going to make it and this piece of music was him saying 'goodbye'. Cliff's sister Connie Burton said in an interview that her brother was not religious (as far as she knew... he loved smoking pot 😁) but often, she would see Cliff up every morning in their parents' house watching Bill Graham Ministries on TV and repeating a line about "the kingdom of salvation"... The members of Metallica also recalled Cliff would be talking about 'the kingdom of salvation' from Bill Graham ministries and wrote a short poem while he was alive. After he died, Metallica recorded 'To live is to die' in 1988 and added Cliff Burton's poem as a spoken word in the instrumental track.

I’m a music instructor, I teach bass, piano, and guitar. Two of my students actually performed this song on bass and guitar two months ago during a recital. Both teenagers. It’s cool to see u guys expanding your musical horizons, mad props. Also what u said was exactly on point. Everybody in the band has a job to do. The drummers job is to make sure the rhythm is solid, the guitar has to provide melody and harmony, the bass locks in with the rhythm of the drums and the harmony of the guitar to make them fit together, and the singer has to look good on stage lol.

Hey guys, love that you guys have been going thru the Metallica catalog. I’m a drummer and it was this band that inspired me to drum. You guys need to do some “Tool” songs review or watches. Keep doing what y’all be doing. It’s cool to see people listen to these songs for the first time. Respect ✊🏽🤘🏽

Love watching you guys. Videos for Halo on Fire and The Day That Never Comes are some more recent epics. Also, To Live Is To Die is an instrumental on their next album after Puppets, and it’s a tribute to Cliff. They’ve got a lot to check out!

It was tragic, Cliff Burton burns alive in a bus crash in the Netherlands. It's very emotional to listen to the guys retell the story, you can find it on KZread. He was the best, I was just graduating high school. I'll never forget the day I heard the news.

If y'all like Metallica, check out any of Cliff Burtons live stuff. He was the Bassist who gave heart not only to Metallica while he was alive, but inspired generations of different players and sounds. RIP.

After the ashes of drug addiction Metallica's 'Orion' and Ozzy's 'Changes' refilled my soul altering my life's course. RIP Cliff P.S. your new metal club assignment each one is to dawn the headphones and experience Orion's magic grab a chair buckle up.
