If you haven’t seen grease. You have to. One if my favorites of all time. Came out when I was in grade school. I’m so sad she passed. She was so beautiful and talented. She also seemed like a genuine sweet person. Yah you definitely have to see the movie. If you watch the movie you will fall in love. Yes real people.

She is held in such high regard here that the offer of a state funeral was always going to be a mere formality, which her family has accepted. She’ll be laid to rest on her farm in Southern California. I’m still in complete disbelief that she’s no longer with us 🥺🥺🥺

The reason it sounded like a Broadway musical was because it was. The movie was released in 1978 and was based on the 1971 musical that eventually appeared on Broadway. I am old enough to have seen the movie when it was released in theatres and then saw it also as a musical theatre production (although not the original 1971 run).

ONJ did a duet with Cliff Richard called "Suddenly" - maybe one of the most beautiful songs she did with another singer.

This song is much better when you watch them act it out in Grease.

She sang like an angel. R.I.P. To really appreciate the songs in Grease you have to see the original movie, "Hopelessly Devoted To You", "The One That I Want" were both credible in the way they act it out in the movie. Watch it, you will like it. It's innocent enough but still relatable across generations with the High School angst we all went through, it is corny at times but it's enjoyable in it's context. Also, yes, BJ is right, the guys are playing the role with their leather jackets as are her friends. The projection shown by John in the movie is that he really genuinely likes Olivia more than a summer fling. but plays up for his image for his buddies. Think "Fonzie" cool (time period the movie is set in). Hell, I enjoyed it too, the message and music is timeless and I dislike musicals in general.

It was actually based off of the Broadway musical and made into a movie kind of like cats how it started out on Broadway and then it became a movie and actually all the people singing in the background was the cast of the movie you'd understand it more if you actually watch the clip from the movie of this song but yes hopelessly devoted to you is a very good song it used to be a popular wedding song sung by the late Olivia Newton-John rest in peace and sing beautifully in heaven Olivia you truly will be missed

B J that is exactly what this song is about. They were portraying high schoolers. The girl, Sandy, was telling what actually happened during their summer romance. The guy, Danny, was more concerned with his rep and being cool.

What an adorable song. You guys should REALLY watch the movie Grease! Well put together, and a few fantastic performances. I'm a big fan of Stockard Channing, who plays Rizzo. But everybody's good fr. Btw, it was def done from a teenage standpoint... they were in high school. Hence, the topics. And the Summer Nights they speak of, is when they met and fell in love. I generally like movie musicals. Including Grease. Movie musicals are pure gold. It basically telling a story but with elements of drama, comedy, joy, feel good, warmth, happiness, romance, friendships, singing AND with much better choreography (physical, athletic, gymnastic dancing). Not the boring shuffles and twerking of modern dancing.

This WAS a play before it was a movie. Then, it became a Hugely successful movie, and now it is a Broadway play again.

I live near Boston. Every year around mid-May or so I make it a point to play this song because it reminds me that we got through another cold and dark winter and we can now look forward to those oh so awesome Summer Nights!

Y'all need to go ahead and watch the movie "Grease". It's a all time classic. Y'all will enjoy it. Lot more songs in the movie.

In the movie they go back and forth from her with the girls telling how sweet he was and he's with his friends in the football bleachers acting like she was loose and he made it with her so it's really cute how they aren't together ( totally different locations) but the song goes together. I was 12 years old when this movie came out, and I fell in love with Olivia Newton John in the first 5 minutes.

Those two aren't in the same spot in the movie singing this .... he's with his boys bragging .... while she's with her sisters giving her version..... SUCH MAGICAL MOVIE .... not having the visual on the video spoils it tons! WATCH the movie ... will be ur FAVORITE forever....

the movie starts with the 'greaser' meeting the 'goody 2 shoes' over the summer & then they go to school & are telling their friend about their summer, not realizing she is a new student. They thought they would never see each other again. He of course brags to his buddies. Such a fun movie. You really should treat yourself to the whole thing. Lots of fun music thruout.

Way off topic, but you might not know back in the 70's John Travolta played a character named "Vinnie Barbarino" on a popular TV show called "Welcome Back Kotter". I think that is where he first became famous.

I used to pretend to be Sandy and sing in the mirror with my hairbrush. Had the biggest crush on JOHN TRAVOLTA. It is such an awesome musical. It was on Broadway first before it became a movie. I love musicals.

Generations know all the words to all the songs from grease. Me my daughter and my granddaughter. I seen it in theater at 12.

This is a musical and it does take place in high school. Focusing on the senior class. I think taking place in the 1950’s. Think Happy Days and Fonzie. The gang of boys with their leather jackets and souped up cars that they worked on. Then the girl gang that were the girlfriends of the boy gang. And then Sandy (Olivia Newton John) that was the innocent girl next door type that Cool Danny (John Travolta) falls in love with but won’t act like it, when his friends are around, because she isn’t cool. There is a lot of dancing and singing in this movie and it is so fun. You should see some of the movie clips of them. They are on you tube.

You need to watch the movie Grease. It's a classic and yes, this is from the soundtrack. And there are cartoons in the opening credit section. Be sure to listen during the credits, the song was written by Barry Gibb and is a jam.

Grease is a MUST SEE. I was young and remember my foster mothers sister was watching grease. When I sat down to actually watch lt, I fell in love with musicals.

The Background Singers were the actual Cast Members! TRUE FACTS: For the Upbeat "Look at me I'm Sandra Dee", The Lyrics were changed mid-recording. They Replaced a Lyric of Sal Minnenio for the Lyrics with Elvis, as Elvis Died the Day Before. The Song "Greased Lightning" was SUPPOSED to be Sung by Jeff Conoway (Who's Character Owned the Car), But John Travolta Demanded HE be the one to sing it.

If you watch the movie clip, it's so much clearer!

You mention the cutesy background singers... I know that two of them were Didi Conn and Dinah Manhoff. Didi has the super adorable baby-like sound. (Which suits her personality)

This is a Broadway musical! Converted to film in 1978. It was set in mid-late 1950's (I think 1957), so the who vibe is sock-hops, poodle dresses, 1950's coming of age tale in a more innocent time. Those were the simple days when girls and cars were the only thing guys thought of. All a typical guy wanted was a cool car to impress the girls. You guys really need to watch this movie sometime. I was still in the 4th or 5th grade school when it came out in 1978 so my parents would let me see it, because it had some adult themes (Movies' portraying High School Kids having sex was a big taboo subject for grade school kids in the 70's) . But my older sister had the album (the actual soundtrack of the movie) and played it constantly. I must have heard all the songs a hundred times before I finally saw the movie in Jr. High. I think it was around 1980 or 81 when I finally saw the film. Suddenly all the songs I knew by heart finally made sense. lol.

You should watch this on your movie channel. And John Trvolta played Danny....the end in the movie. His beastie, Kenitchi, in the movie was played by Jeff Conway who was in the TV sitcom "Taxi". Trivia on Broadway, They played reverse parts.

It is a musical...you guys know that right :) Well, you do by now. Watch the movie version (which this is from) but it was originally on Broadway and probably will be again. It's fun :) RIP OLJ
