I remember the first time I heard this tune on MTV. I went and bought it 15 minutes later. Nirvana was cataclysmic to the music scene. It changed forever. Losing Kurt Cobain so fast though, hurt the industry as well. It hurt music, period. That drummer is a young Dave Grohl. Google him - he's one of my fav musicians of all time.

RockyMtnHighChick Heard this first in 1991, and Kurt was gone three years later. 😔
Picked this song for my dads funeral back in 1999 - I was 11 and still to this day listen to this to remember him and think he was a fucking bad ass for his taste in music
Heart shaped box and all apologies are also great nirvana songs

I was always a big fan of Penny Royal Tea myself
Always loved the song, hit like a bomb when it came out! And I always loved how the audiance in the video starts totally calm and then escalates more and more till total freakout and pogo-dancing with the band :)
Nirvana hit the scene and absolutely blew up when I was in college. When this song (or any of their songs) came on the club erupted and was bedlam. This was a industry/genre changing band. RIP Kurt. His passing and how it occurred was incredibly sad.
I remember when I first heard this. I had a big stupid grin on my face too! The whole album has this momentum to it, I couldn’t stop replaying it for about 2 years. I don’t listen to nirvana so much anymore but when I do, I’m still amazed by how well the songs have held up. And the way it makes me feel! You will probably love most if not all of the album Nevermind if you liked this. Even the couple of softer/quieter songs keep you hooked
Nirvana was one of the best in their time. RIP Kurt Cobain.
It always amazes me how people nowadays don't know the biggest bands from the past. The drummer is Dave Grohl, one of the sanest guys in rock. He sings in Foo Fighters now.

I was wondering how he could possibly not know all these different well known songs, I was so sceptical about the vids but he seems genuine. Is it just because he is young and doesn't listen to these genres or something? (not being disrespectful genuine question!)

He's probably for real. Teen Spirit was released in 1991, 28 years ago. I was too young to understand music back then but had I been the same age as this guy, I wouldn't have known over 20-year old songs either. Granted, music from the 90s is a lot more accessible and current today than what 60s music was in the 90s.
Nirvana's In Bloom is a great song!
The moment they up the tempo never gets old, great reaction
Song never gets old! Nirvana performed an AMAZING cover of David Bowie's classic, "The Man Who Sold the World" on MTV Unplugged. Check it out! It's so different from Bowie's orginal but oh so beautiful! Bowie's original is epic but Nirvana's cover is equally epic! Kurts vocals and guitars riffs... wow!💗 Rest in peace Kurt Kobain! 💟
Brother, you have been missing out! I'm so happy to have found your channel and to watch you react to such great tracks and artists. I was raised on Soul, Funk, Blues and Jazz as that's what my mum listened to. My neighbour loved Rock and 70's Electro, and my brothers all had different tastes, so I learned a lot from very young. Please keep up the great work bro, all our love and positivity from Australia!
I wish i was you, hearing all of these insane ass songs for the first time, mad love
I cannot describe almost the movement this started... as a chick whom thought i missed my time from the 60’s or 70’s, as a 17 yr old & an angst one, this made me realize i was in the best time humanly possible in music history.. i groupied all over Seattle for a while following Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, etc... There are too many songs to say to check out, Lithium, Territorial Pissings, Drain You, On a Plain, In Bloom, Where did You Sleep Last Night... too many to name
Bro i'm on a bit of a binge through your channel, but loving your reactions to some classics. The comments have already laid out some classic Nirvana you need to check out!

My CD of this album got scratched to death by being played so often at parties. The '90s were great!
This was the early 90s grunge anthem of Generation X. Gets played on breaks in basketball games a lot.
This is a brilliant rock song that a friend played to me when it first came out, I had forgotten the name of the band and now thanks to you I know it lol. I don't know any more of their music but I shall try to listen to more. Take care and stay safe please everyone Mary-Ellen UK

Love that.
Check out Weird Al’s parody of it- he asked to do a parody in the style of Nirvana- Kurt asked if it was going to be about food (because of the Michael Jackson duo of parodies he did) Al said, ‘it’s about how no one can understand your lyrics’... & Cobain must have been like, ‘sounds legit’ Apparently, Al was able to get the same location to perform it, too!
Song started a REVOLUTION! Hasent been one even close, since. RIP Cobain. Rated 9th greatest song of all time.
The song of my generation. Not only is this just good powerful music, it totally capturesbthe atmospheric feel of that decade. Man... talk about nostalgia
maybe a tv ad had this music, back then it was extremely popular, all over the world. Love from Spain. The drummer is the singer of Foo Fighters
I love watching you enjoy music for the music. Sometimes having no previous knowledge of who the artists are makes the listening experience more memorable.
Check out Lithium too

Long live grunge! Listen to the MTV unplugged live in NYC version of “all apologies.” It’s classic!!! Kurt really had an amazing voice and this version really shows it off in a stripped down way.
Fine young man, thank you for bringing me back to my twenties! 💜💜💜
I still remember seeing this for the first time on MTV. It played over and over. Love the song, his voice, but also this video they put with it. Love how it was like in a high school gym like a pepper rally gone mad. The basketball hoop the kids in the stands, And even a high school janitor. They just let it out so hard and every teenager, which I was in 1991 found they could just let out all their angst, pain, and confusion of the time. We had just entered the gulf war. This entire album never mind became an album of our lives. They change music forever. RIP Kurt. Listen to lithium, come as you are, and especially the MTV unplugged version of my girl

Another brilliant song I'm binge watching some Jayvee and your totally making my morning so cheers for that.
So imagine this dropping in today's environment: some small band from Seattle, playing in a bit of a garage band style and wearing thrift store clothing. A group not taking about money and possessions but connecting with the loners and less popular kids. I used to tell people it would be hard to imagine the impact, but honestly, if it happened today, it would be just as seismic of a shift as it was back in 91/92.

@@djangorinvisible3330 For sure, but other than Metallica's Black album and maybe Guns N Roses, 1991 was all about R&B (and Garth Brooks). When Nevermind went to #1, it knocked of Michael Jackson's Dangerous album. Nobody expected the album to sell and it altered music history. So it would be exactly like you would imagine if it hit today and because popular. (I do kind of agree it wouldn't make the same impact though because its all about singles now).
Jayvee love ur reaction buddy!!!! Keep em coming bro -Mike
Ready for more Nirvana? Please try: Lithium (live Music Awards MTV 1991), Where did you Sleep Last Night (MTV Unplugged live 1993) just to start...
One of the best drummers ever... in my book. Song writer as well. Gotta catch the Foo Fighters’ videos. Will never disappoint.
Great Song! I've been a Nirvana Fan since going to see them in Austin in the early 90s. Thanks!
In 1991 this song was an Atom Bomb that changed the music scene permanently. Nothing else was the same afterwards.
Nice bro! Sucess for you from Porto Velho,Rondônia🇧🇷 GRUNGE STAY ALIVE!
I'm not a Nirvana fan ,I'm more of a metal fan, but this song has to be in Top 5 best songs in rock history. It's just mesmerizing. It's perfect in composition, vocals, instrumentation. It's just magic.
The drummer is Dave Grohl... founder of the " Foo Fighters "
Diamond Dallas Page used a variation of the hook as a ring entrance back on the WCW days
This is One you never forget 🌸

The unplugged MTV version is my favorite!
I cannot stress how insanely popular this song was when it first came out. It single-handedly kick-started the 90s grunge movement, changing the music scene literally overnight. They were only active for a few years, but they dominated the airwaves during those years.
Diamond Dallas Page used this as his intro in the old WCW in the 90s.
This song ended the 80s. If you were in a group when this song came out, the next day you were finished.
This take me back to 23 years old. :) I always loved their song Lithium.
Age 15, MTV, sitting in my friends house. Blew us away! How is it nearly 30 years ago?

Im a huge nirvana fan. Man i remember i was in high school when they came out with nevermind it was such an impact. My heart breaks tho every time i hear kurts voice
You should react to "Where did you sleep last night", by Nirvana in MTV unplugged. By the way, the drummer is Dave Grohl - also the frontman of Foo fighters which is a band he created after Nirvana ended. (A band you also should listen too - songs like Pretender or Best of you)
I like the scarlet letter on the cheerleaders uniform.
I was 15 when that came out, a fan from the intro to this very day. Hope you check out more from them, the MTV Unplugged is legendary! Also, if you want a giggle Weird Al Yankovic did a great parody of the song and the video called ‘Smells Like Nirvana’
Good stuff, Jay! The drummer on this track is Dave Grohl who went on to head the Foo Fighters, another great band.
I lived this in Seattle! It was so much fun seeing Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, too many to name and was the most fun I've had going from band to band on weekends!
I'm worst at what I do best and for this gift Im feeling blessed
Try Where Did You Sleep Last Night and The Man Who Sold the World (a Bowie song) on the MTV Live album.
Literally at one point, MTV played this song at least once an hour for a loooong time.

Of course you've heard it. It was the international youth anthem for the western world of the 1990s. You couldn't go to a high school dance without hearing it. Our senior motto (1992), stitched to our jerseys (Australia) was "Oh well, whatever, nevermind"...
U gotta do more Nirvana bro. Where did you sleep last night unplugged
Yes in fact if there are any old wrestling fans who watched wcw back in the day “ diamond Dallas page “ had a similar riff to his entrance music
I feel fine the beatles
This song and video changed the 90s!
The Drummer is Dave Grohl. He's amazing and has a band named the Foo Fighters. Watch "Learn to Fly". Great song!!
Great timing for Kurt
The wresler Diamond Dallas Page came out to a version of this. That's probably where you remember it from if it was wrestling.
Speaking about ur wrestling reference it was Diamond Dallas Page whose WCW Theme Song sounds like this
You probably heard it alot of places my friend, it is one of those massive hit songs that get played everywhere!! Teen spirit was a deodorant brand wildly popular amongst adolescent girls back in the 90s, so it was kind of sarcastic but it is an important song in the sense that it brought grunge into the mainstream. Glad to see a new video from you. If you like nirvana check out soundgarden. Their big hit is called black hole sun but I really prefer black days or fresh tendrils
The drummer Dave Grohl is the lead singer of the Foo Fighters who also have good songs.
