This is the best version of this song, hands down. Marko’s Phantom is so on point-he’s a controlling madman-and no one else I’ve ever heard can convey that as well as he does.

I love both Floor and Tarja. Floor has fantastic tone and power, but Tarja has amazing range of techniques over both Rock and Classical fields. She's the Eddie Van Halen of singing.

This is my favorite version of this song followed very closely by Tommy Johansson's version where he sings both parts!!! Another amazing song of Nightwish with the magical pairing of Tarja and Marko is "Planet Hell" from the same End of Era concert

Have you seen Floor and Henk Poort perform it with Nightwish? Henk was the Phantom in the Dutch version of the musical and was on the same show with Floor Beste Zangers in 2019. I love this song so very very much. I first heard it in high school and it was so magical. It also introduced me to the musical it came from. I didn't see this live version until after I'd become totally obsessed with Phantom. If you don't know, that run she does with the high note at the end is not in the album version and when I heard her do that at the end of this live version, my baby goth teenage mind was absolutely BLOWN.

Nightwish is an absolutely amazing band. The female lead is exceptional with the range of her vocals. You definitely need to react to more of their songs

Which female lead? Tarja founded the band with Tuomas and Emppu. Floor is great but not quite the same (and shouldn't be). Anette in between did a good job but was kind of ordinary in comparison to those two stellar (in their own ways) stage presences.

they were the best duet for me. Tarja has a wonderful, powerful and dark voice and it contrasts perfectly with Marko's voice. I recommend: slaying the dreamer, planet hell or any song from this concert. Tarja has a very wide and varied solo career, I recommend shadow play from her show circus life live (she plays the piano and sings differently).

And Tarja absolutely kills Muse's Supremacy, live. Makes you think, that's how it was supposed to be. And she looks so happy with her own band now. Maybe it was a kind of a burn-out with Nightwish.

The rabbithole of symphonic/celtic/progressive metal is magical and very addictive..nightwish, Ayreon, Epica, within temptation, and so much more. I totaly stepped out of my comfortzone a year ago and i am hooked..i am from a more blues and soul kind of music, normally..

Nightwish and Phantom fan here. I loved to see your reaction and hear your input. Loved what you picked up on. Will be looking into more of your videos! I couldn't tell from this, but if you haven't and ever get the chance, definitely see a performance of Phantom on stage. It remains to this day the most impressive stage production I've ever seen.

I miss Marko so much, anyways do continue with Nightwish! I´m sure someone here soon will give you a full on guide on where to go next from here

Go with some old school Nightwish from when they were a metal band. Try Wishmaster, Pharaoh Sail to Orion, Kinslayer, Gethsemane.

Nightwish is amazing. I originally followed during Tarja, that was my friend's favorite era, but Anette's era is my favorite. Which is... funny because people are not the biggest fan of her but nightwish, and their opener Kamelot, are the only bands I saw in concert. And she was so good. So you know Tarja, the first singer, is the one who sings this one. Please, if you listen to nightwish again and try to judge the other singers, do not pick one of the songs that is the other singer specialties. they do not show their best self when, for example, Anette sings Nemo. Like Anette's song is Sahara and listen to a live version. I don't know Floor as well but people who are more familiar with her should suggest songs. There was just such a wide range for the different female singers. Marco, the guy with the power vocal, does great in this song. But he's also great in the song Master Passion greed.

@@UltimateDorito I became very attached to Anette, I like the movie too, and then when she left... I didn't find Floor as much of a personality as either of the two. Tarja is powerful and Anette is sweet. And I feel bad because I liked Tuomas, Marco and Emppu. Marco's gone though so it's just those two.

Nightwish blends heavy metal w/ operatic, cinematic and theatrical music... Finland's finest! "Phantom of the opera" was a A.L. Webber musical cover, and this performance was from 2005... It was also the last concert w/ this female singer Tarja, who recorded the first 5 albums by Nightwish from 1997 to 2004. Tuomas (keyboards) was writing songs around 1995 and enlisted female vocalist Tarja (who was only 18 at the time) to record them, and that project became Nightwish. It went from an acoustic project to an operatic heavy metal band within months... Emppu (guitar) and Jukka (drums) joined and recorded the first album 'Angels fall first' in '97... Sami (bass) joined as Nightwish played shows for the first time... Tuomas sang initially, but decided not to cos he disliked his voice. Nightwish came up fast w/ 'Oceanborn' (1998) and 'Wishmaster' (2000) and an EP 'Over the hills and far away' (a Gary Moore cover)... Sami was replaced by Marco (bass) who began singing the male lead vocals on the 2002 album 'Century Child'... The album 'Once' (2004) saw Nightwish playing arenas all over Europe & South America, but were playing clubs in the US and Asia... They toured N. America for the first time in '04, but problems began to arise w/ the singer Tarja. In 2005, after a homecoming show in Finland that was filmed for a DVD, Nightwish announced the following day via 'open letter' that Tarja had been fired... Apparently, she and her husband Marcelo had been making financial demands from the band that compromised their touring ambitions... Shows had been canceled, tours were canceled, and her intentions that she was focused on solo ambitions led to the decision. Tarja claimed that she was not willing to play along to the band's heavy workload and was blindsided... w/ her husband unfairly dragged into the disagreements (Never mind that he was also her personal manager). Tarja launched a solo career in 2007... Nightwish opted to hire Swedish singer Anette Olzen in 2007 for the 'Dark passion play' album... Anette was a more pop-oriented singer and the band wanted to break from the operatic style that Tarja was known for... The album was a huge success worldwide, and Nightwish endured a huge touring cycle into 2009 which exhausted the band... A concept album 'Imaginaerum' was released in 2011 w/ an accompanying movie... the band plotted a tour into 2013, but in 2012 problems arose on tour... Anette announced she was pregnant and would not be able to do the full tour. She insisted on doing a US tour in the fall of 2012, but was not performing optimally... She fell sick and ended up in the hospital in Denver, and Nightwish opted to do the show w/ fill-in singers from the opening band Kamelot... After a show in Salt Lake City, it was clear that Anette would not last the tour and was sent home... Floor Jansen (former singer of the band After Forever) was flown in to the US in 48 hrs to learn the songs and finish the tour in Anette's place... In 2013, both Floor Jansen and multi instrumentalist Troy Donockley joined Nightwish permanently, but Jukka (drums) left the band shortly after... He was replaced by Kai Hahto on drums. 2015 marked Floor's first Nightwish album 'Endless forms most beautiful' and Nightwish seemed more popular than ever worldwide... They marked their 20th anniversary w/ the 'Decades' tour soon after. In 2020, they released the 'Human II Nature' album... but Marco (bass) left the band in 2021... Jukka Koskinen (bass) was announced as his replacement for the tour. More Nightwish songs - 'Romanticide'... 'Dark chest of wonders'... 'Wishmaster'... 'Elvenpath'... 'Endless forms most beautiful'... 'Ghost love score'... 'Noise'... 'Bless the child'... 'Nemo'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥

Tarja is a one-trick-pony, and that’s it right there. That plodding, round vowel, operatic voice is the only gear she’s got. Floor is not only a lighter, brighter voice with 5 forward gears; she can, when called upon bring absolute Thunder. The only thing the Nightwish Army enjoys more than telling fans of Any other band how much better our band is; is arguing with each other about which two of the 3 singers is THE best. yeah when she sang Feel For You, that was very operatic.. and White Night Fantasy, most operatic sound ever produced... not to mention Slaying the Dreamer on End of an Era.. such a round sound. literally all the same. can't hear a difference 🙃

@@athannyx6815 I will say that Anette has more of a Metal soul in her little pinky than Tarja does in her whole body, despite her Metal AF fronting. But Anette’s voice was so light a strong wind would blow it away. Ann Waychoff would be proud of you, as she too hated this family squabble; refusing to pick sides and praising all 3 equally. 🫵🏻💪🏻👍🏻

Rock opera should sound like rock opera, right? This concert was televised and I knew then that I saw something phenomenal.

My tip Floor and Henk. The Phantom..again with her Brothers in Nightwish. After 17 years. Amazing 🤘 ps, great chemestry?? After this Show, the Band fired Tarja. Read the open Letter.

This was not excitement what you saw. This was sorrow because everyone there knew this is last tour of Nightwish with Tarja before the ass on keyboards kicked her out because she wouldn't be his "girlfriend" egomaniac. It is also the tour which be reemembered (for those like me who followed them since their first album) as a tour that killed Nightwish.

As others have said… definitely need to check out the one they just released with their new lead singer. She brings a lot more to the song and the male vocalist was an actual on stage phantom.

actually I think this version is way better. The lack of practice shows in the Floor / Henk / Nightwish version as it was done as a surprise. Great singers all and Floor is my personal fav of the 3 Nightwish female leads. Funny that, Floor is my fav of the singers but Annette's era were my favourite albums and my favourite individual songs are from the Tarja era.

I think the best version of this song is from the phantom of the Opra movie I can't remember the names of the actors

Yes, I think that would be a better starting point for Epica than Consign to Oblivion or Sancta Terra, which everyone seems to start on. DYU is my favorite Epica album so I'm a little biased

The truly amazing thing is that there were major tensions between the band and the singer and she was fired at the end of this concert in a really messy way that is still controversial 17 years later.

@@NPK476 If they had known how detrimental to them it would be, maybe they would have behaved differently, but they were just as tone deaf when they fired Anette. Truly getting Floor to join saved the band. I find it amusing that all of the outside interests that they felt were so detrimental in Tarja are perfectly okay when it comes to Floor.

Tarja was the best! And this is one of my favorites.

I can appreciate the artistic license this band took with this song and recognize the technique and talent they show in this adaptation, But this was almost painful to listen to! Call me a purist, but in my opinion the way its originally written is LEAGUES above this performance. Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler's version of this song is elite! And Nicole Scherzinger absolutely kills it! I urge you to listen to them as well

Honestly, I guess I can't be TOO MAD that you're not familiar with Nightwish, but...such is the nature of reactions, I guess.

Try the same song with their current vocalist whether the "beste zangers" or the Live at Ziggo Dome. Both are just incredible. Tarja is a wonderful artist, but Floor brings way more emotion. Personal opinion.

You should do Romanticide from Wacken 2013 as your next Nightwish track. Leans a little more metal on the metal/symphonic slider.

Metal is my favorite genre but I’d still go with any Broadway production over this track, the male role is…. not spectacular imo.
