When the music stopped at the end I started writing a comment, because you had asked what others had thought the meaning was, but then your last few words made me think you got it, because my interpretation is that this song is about how so many of us are guilty of complacency and inaction, when we could be at least trying to make a difference. We humans seem to value comfort over responsibility...we're our own worst enemy like that.

Beautifully said. That is something i struggle with, because i know i can do better. And i do try, but still sometimes i am conflicted and think i could do more. Thanks for writing this comment. Have a great day.

Matt is exceptional. Thanks heaps yet again for reacting to him. Another Australian artist you have to check out is Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes covering “a change is gonna come” live in 1984. Jimmy still sings till this day and was part of a successful rock band called Cold Chisel. His vocals are deadly

This track and his vocals remind me so much of Jeff Buckley, another of my favourite vocalists. And his backing band is supreme, as is Jeff’s backing band. Truly transcendent 🙏🏻

Hey to the Aussie gang. I think Saeed is going to be a Teskey Brothers fan. What should we request first? Pain & Misery, Rain or Hold Me?

Lovin' your Matt discovery! This is another great one, love the vibe. I try not to understand the meaning of most songs, just feel them and experience it. It creates my own emotions and let my mind eander in the music.

Hai! I’ll take a stab for ya, coz I can see you won’t stop thinking about this for a while. Matt was a devout Christian when he was younger & went through some pretty serious hurt from someone who was his musical & spiritual mentor to the point he almost gave up music (he has never spoken publicly about this but I ran in his circles & it was because of Matt that I met people that brought me into church myself). At the time of writing this song, I think he had not been walking with the Lord for a few years and I think a lot of songs around this release & Resolution (in general - but also directly as a song I believe Matt had experienced God and “knew” God through Holy Spirit but hadn’t actually sat and read the Bible - in Resolution there’s a lyric that says, “from the cradle to quarter age, I bought the book but didn’t flip the page” & he was 23 when he wrote it) were when he was going through a period of trying to come back to God and repent for the things he did when he wasn’t following God. I think it’s also a comment on Brother leading people away from God & bringing in a wave of language that used to be cut out of mainstream songs, but because of Brother now isn’t. Hence lyrically you can hear the song is about his struggle with God about different things. Matt thinking his prayers are not worth being heard & “fraudulent” to use his words is part of that. I think he was in a period during the writing phase of that album asking himself, “will God accept me again if I truly repent & turn from my wickedness” - he had just gotten into a relationship & maybe felt stable for the first time in many years & then just before this tour they broke up, which is why the questions came up again. He ditched the whole album he wrote around this time & began the questioning again which sent him way into addiction to the point he couldn’t live like that anymore (it’s referenced in his most recent album). I genuinely believe the words at the end of his song Monday were a prophetic picture for what would get him out of the darkest season of his life, having a child. He’s so much more honest, raw & mentally stable now & is actually helping young artists not make the same mistakes he did. Genuinely would love the man to write a biography. It would absolutely be a best seller.

Matt Corby was brought up in a Christian family, and I believe that his father was or is a pastor, but I could be mistaken!
