Yes a must “Louisiana woman, Mississippi man” and for sure Conway Twitty “Hello Darlin” My mom has that as her ringtone for my father. She loves to wait until it says hello darlin’ before she answers the phone LOL
Just friends. “I loved Conway as a friend, and my husband loved him. Conway was really the only one in the music business that Doo gave a dag-gone for.” ~ Loretta Lynn
My mother loved Conway and my father loved Loretta. So imagine growing up with your parents singing this to one another. A real confidence booster as a kid - lol. 🤣🤣
Loretta Lynn has some great “badass” songs. Conway Twitty had some great songs. Jay would probably love “That’s my Job” while Amber would love “Hello Darlin’ “
Conway & Loretta did tons of songs together. They were the best of friends, but that's all. I have put some suggestions in for Conway Twitty, just tonight as it happens. They are..... 1... "It's Only Make Believe" (his first hit in 1959) 2... "That's My Job" (A much later, but still gorgeous song 1987)

No Loretta got married to Oliver Lynn AKA dulittle when she was like 14 years old , and as far as her life story movie she never strayed but you should check out her life story the movie is titled " coal miners daughter " great little movie 🎬
Loretta Lynn was married to Doolittle Lynn , so she and Conway Twitty were not a thing, just a terrific singing duo as you can well hear!, Love your reactions. 😎👍👍👍

I remember the line from "Coal Miner's Daughter", "Doo stop growling, you sound like a old bear!" I don't know why, but it is one of those "things" I think of from time to time!
Conway Twitty started as a rock star but became a country heart throb , and no there was never any hanky pinky between Loretta Lynn and him, but they were best friends. Try " hello darling " and the duet with Loretta " Louisiana woman Mississippi man" both are true fire.

More Oklahoma trivia. Conway lived in Moore, Oklahoma for a couple of years. His real name was Harold Jenkins - he was never married to Loretta. One of his daughters, Joni Jenkins went to my Junior High and I was in her music class in 7th grade. We all had to sing a solo a cappella, if you couldn't play an instrument. Of course, Joni played the guitar and sang. I won't tell you how my solo went. I'm still traumatized. They moved back to Nashville and they came back to Oklahoma when Joni was in High School but they moved to Norman at that point. Just so you know, I am not claiming to be her friend. We just had a few classes together.

How cool is that?? And I had no clue Conway wasn't his real name. My mom whose listened to him for years didn't either!
I had the incredible experience of seeing Conway Twitty in February of 1988. I drove over three hours in a blizzard to see Randy Travis, who was opening for Conway Twitty. It was a hellish drive. Got into the arena just in time to hear the announcer say, “and that, ladies and gentlemen, was Randy Travis”. So I got to see Conway, and I was truly impressed. More than I expected. I did get to see Randy other times, but that was my only time seeing Conway Twitty. A legend. So good. 💜
Conway Twitty was an American country music singer who also had success in the rock & roll, R&B & pop genres in the 50's-90's. He has won numerous awards for his music & performed with some of the biggest stars. He had a lot of big duet hits with Loretta Lynn ("After the Fire Is Gone", "Lead Me On", "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man", "As Soon As I Hang Up The Phone", "Feelins'", "I Still Believe In Waltzes", "I Can't Love You Enough"). One of his biggest solo hits was in 1958 with "It's Only Make Believe". Other songs he recorded were "Danny Boy", "Lonely Blue Boy", "Next In Line", "Hello Darlin'", "You've Never Been This Far Before", "Don't Take It Away", "I May Never Get To Heaven", "Happy Birthday Darlin'" & many more.

Who else grew up with a dad that loved older country singers like Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn
If y'all haven't reacted to Loretta Lynn "Fist City" you should!! It's great!!
Loretta and Conway were good friends. Loretta was married to her husband Mooney for 48 years. They married when she was 13. He was the one that started her career. Conway passed when he was only 58 and she didn’t do duet for a while.
Another great Conway Twitty song is "You've Never Been This Far Before." And I second those who recommend the Conway-Loretta duet "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man" and the Conway solo "Hello, Darlin'" -- they're great! By the way, I believe Conway Twitty picked both his first and last names from a roadmap. As mentioned elsewhere, his real name was Harold Jenkins.
@deannasisson5751
2 жыл бұрын
The way I heard it, Harold Jenkins threw darts at a map on the dart board. One landed on Conway, Arkansas and the other on Twitty, Texas. Those darts could have landed anywhere, but he chose to be called Conway, not Twitty, and the rest is history. Do you know how T.G. Shepard got his name? He was told to think up a name by his manager, because they couldn't use his real name. He rolled his eyes, paced the floor awhile and looked out into the parking lot and saw 'The German Shepard', and the rest of that is history. But that's all the name origins I know. Enjoy his songs, too. He is real good!
"Hello darling" is classic country. His work is sewn into the fabric of country music history...
Conway Twitty is a country music icon. Hello Darlin, It's Only Make Believe", I'd Love to Lay You Down, You've Never Been This Far Before, That's My Job, Tight Fittin Jeans, Linda on My Mind, Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man, After the Fire is Gone, Don't Take it Away.
Loretta just released a new album in March 2021. The title song, Still Woman Enough features Reba and Carrie Underwood, both Oklahoma superstars, so 3 of the biggest names in country music. Its certainly worth a listen!
If you want to react to Conway Twitty start with It's Only Make Believe. That was his first big hit. It is amazing!!
"Novelty song" is probably the term you're looking for, and that would be a fun topic to explore. There are a lot of great novelty songs from the past, in many different genres, but especially in old country.
Conway Twitty has so many greats. One of the great country song writers. My favorite of his is Louisiana woman, mississippi man. Also his biggest hit was probably Hello Darlin
These two legends of country music were very good friends and recorded several good songs together.

Yup that is it.
You're right about Loretta's powerful voice. When I saw her live I was amazed at the powerful voice she has/had. She could literally blow most other singers off the stage for real!
Though not married, Loretta and Conway were one of the greatest 'couples' in country music. They were a great pairing that just worked so well together, like Dolly Pardon and Porter Waggoner.
Please check out Eddy Arnold, one of the great country crooners. His sound of the '60s became known as "countrypolitan" because it was really smooth and much less twangy than traditional country. I think you would love "What's He Doin' in My World?" and "Make the World Go Away." Also, Marty Robbins' "El Paso" is one of the greatest story songs ever.
If you’re gonna hear more Conway, you should hear “Julia” and “That’s My Job.” Those are probably his best. “You’ve Never Been This Far Before” and “I’d Just Love to Lay You Down” were pretty darn good too.
They just had great chemistry and have a ton of duets together.

Yes! I was going to suggest this one if I couldn't find someone else who had.
Loretta was a spitfire for sure. She taught herself to write songs, play the guitar and sing. At the time she was married and a teenager with several kids and very very poor. Her husband was kind blah blah about her doing this as long as she still kept the house up, took care of the kids and put dinner on the table. He always liked her singing but didn't think it would go anywhere. But once she got noticed he was her biggest fan and promotor. Once Loretta started up she hooked up with Patsy Cline who showed her the ropes and introduced her to many in the music industry. She and Conway were never a thing. If you like this you have got to listen to her singing "Coal Miner's Daughter"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two Legends!! Love this!!🤘🔥
Conway Twitty was most widely known as a country artist but he had success in the rock and pop genres as well. He wasn't born here but he made Oklahoma City his home during most of his recording career, from 1963 to 1972. He also lived in Norman, Oklahoma. He performed at the Diamond Ballroom after its opening in 1964. He had a chain of restaurants and he opened one of his Twitty Burger restaurants at 7200 S. Western Avenue, in Oklahoma City. My step-dad knew him through work. Although he was never starstruck you could tell that he was pleased that he knew him personally., since he was also a fan. (*Disclosure: I was just a kid then and couldn't remember the dates and such, so I pulled some info from Wikipedia.)
Please, more duets by Conway & Loretta. They always had fun singing together. They were the best of friends. Like everyone else has said "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man" is a must! You guys need to watch the movie about Loretta Lynn starring Cissy Spacek, “ Coal Miner’s Daughter” She did all her own singing on the soundtrack; which is one of the reasons she won the Oscar, for her role. The drummer, Levon Helm, from the group, whom you have reacted on “The Band” plays her father, in the film.
Like Loretta, Conway is a Legend in country music. He only had 55 number #1 hits....55!!!!!!!!! number 1's!!!!!! 23 more songs hit the top 10!!!! "Hello Darlin" was his first. "Tight fittin Jeans" and "Red Neckin Love making Night" are 2 of my favs. In addition to country he did rock and roll, rockabilly and pop. Dude is a Legend. They had several songs together and won several duo of the year awards. Loved your reactions to this fun song.
"After the Fire is Gone" and the phone conversation ("Hang up the Phone"?) are awesome as well! All Loretta and Conway.
Loretta and Conway used to sing different duets together. Each of them were married to different people, but there was always speculation because they sang so well together . They had several good duets together, but my favorite is. LOUISIANA WOMAN, MISSISSIPPI MAN. Loretta‘s twang came from being raised in Kentucky. Dolly was from Tennessee. Patsy Cline was from Virginia. Bobby Joe Gentry was from Mississippi and so was Tammy Wynette. All of them were singing in the 60s except for Bobby Joe gentry. She didn’t come out until the 70s. She’s the one that sang Ode to Billy Joe,😮 it’s about the guy jumping off the Tallahatchee Bridge.. The instrument that you were talking about where you sit and play is a steel guitar. It’s a very cool instrument. It has a great sound! Another tidbit on Conway and Loretta - in 1993, both Loretta‘s husband Mooney and Conway were in critical condition in the hospital. She went between both of their rooms. Conway died then and when Loretta got back to his room, she said he was still warm. Her husband survived that time, but died three years later.
This team did a lot of great duets. Conway is very country. You will love his voice.
Two other Conway songs are "Desperado Love" and "Happy Birthday Darling". Conway's last recording was a duet with Sam Moore "Rainy Night In Georgia". I cannot believe I forgot "Tight Fittin' Jeans" by Conway. They were never a thing, just two very good friends. Other good duets, John and June Carter Cash with "Jackson" or George Jones and Tammy Wynette "Golden Rings" or Marie Osmond and Dan Seals in "Meet Me In Montana" just to get started.
Their grandkids recently did covers of Conaway and Loretta's songs. They're pretty good. And it's pretty neat to hear the similarities in their grandkids voices. Although they aren't exactly the same.
I grew up hearing these two, everyday I got ready for school would hear Conway, Loretta, Tanya, Skeeter etc. It brings back such great memories. Goodbye Loretta, sleep in eternal peace. Reunited again with Conway to start working on some new music ❤️❤️❤️❤️
CONWAY IS A COUNTRY ICON AND LEGEND!!! Please get to him soon! You will love him too. This a fun song between 2 best friends!
Conway is a legend. "Hello Darlin" is his most recognizable hit. "Only Make Believe" is more of an oldie do-wop kind of song that's great. And "That's My Job" is a song that'll pull on your heart strings in a good way. He has many more great hit songs though.

my fave by them heard it when i was 14 or so on my moms cassette of loretta and conway duets we both laughed so hard today loretta died what a legend they weren't a thing but they had known each other for a long time and were very close friends as were their spouses
Louisiana woman, Mississippi man is a must listen. For Conway, please react to "That's my job".
They had a number of FUN songs together. Another artist (but, not country singer) is Paul Simon (Simon & Garfunkel), a prolific writer. I really wish you would listen to 2 of his FUN songs: ME AND JULIO DOWN BY THE SCHOOLYARD and CALL ME AL.Even your kids would love these songs. PLEASE give them a listen.💜💜
Conway Twitty had over 55 number one hits. He started out in Rock and Roll but really loved country and changed to country music. You really need to listed to It's Only Make Believe which sold over 8 million copies and Hello Darling which was his first big selling country hit. He and Loretta recorded many duets and Loretta Lynn has said many times that he was her favorite country and rock and roll singer. They were friends until Conway in June of 1993 of a stomach aneurism.
Conway was the Barry White of Country music. Conway and Loretta were the most decorated duo in Country music. Conway song, Tight Fitten Jeans, Slow Hand, Love To Lay You Down. He had 25 number ones. He left us too soon. As y'all know all of Lorretta Lynn accomplishments.
There are probably more famous Conway/Loretta duets, but I adore As Soon As I Hang Up The Phone. It cracks me up so much.
They were best friends only great song and reaction loved it
Conway Twitty once heard singing a love song will NEVER be forgotten!
Conway Twitty was born Harold Jenkins in Mississippi. He started out as a rock singer (the musical "Bye Bye Birdie" had the character "Conrad Birdie" based on Twitty) with the hit "It's Only Make Believe" in 1958. He later switched to country and hit with songs such as his first #1 country hit with "Next in Line" in 1968. In the 70s he had hits with "Hello Darlin'", "Fifteen Years Ago", "You've Never Been This Far Before" and duets with Loretta, "Lead Me On", "After the Fire is Gone", "Louisiana Woman/Mississippi Man" and "Feelins".
Conway has so many hits, Only Make Believe, I Talked To The Man In The Moon, Hello Darlin', Joni, Please don't Cry which is a duet with his daughter, That's My Job and many more!
"Thats my job" by conway twitty is a personal favorite. Truly a " dad " song
Jerry Reed "She got the gold mine" is a riot too.
This song is hilarious! I've never heard either of them sing together. Definitely a new one for me.
Omg Conway twitty is one of my favs..he has soulful voice "some body needing some body" is a great one.
Dagmar hit it on the head. I think my favorite Conway song is "That's my Job". A tribute to his father. Every time I hear it, it really gets to me!
“Hello Darlin’” is one-off my favorites!
Another from this duo: "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man" and another from Loretta Lynn solo: "Fist City" and another from Conway Twitty solo: "Hello Darlin'"
Once upon a time, Conway Twitty was a Rock Singer. He and his drummer wrote "It's Only Make Believe" which came out in 1959. It's an incredible song which demonstrates his vocal range. Reminds me of Elvis
Conway & Loretta were close like Dolly & Kenney was. Loretta is still married to her husband for over 60 years.
These two have done so many songs together and are genuinely good friends....
They were just long-time singing partners and great friends. I miss them both.
Conway was 1st famous for "HELLO DARLING".. and ohhhh.. what a song!
AND ANOTHER GREAT DUET WITH LORETTA AND CONWAY, "AFTER THE FIRE IS GONE"
If you would like to hear an Irish version of a "relationship song", I recommend "Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues (pronounced "p-OH-gs"). I suppose, technically, it's a Christmas song, but it's got some great back & forth between the guy & girl (and some fantastic piano playing & backup music).
Conway and Loretta had so many great songs over the years. This one doesn't show their true connection as a duet. After the Fire is Gone, Louisiana Women Mississippi Man, As Soon as You Hang Up the Phone. Conway is a country legend himself. Conway had his own amusement part in Nashville called Twitty City. Went there as a kid when we visited Opryland.
It isn't a single song but a documentary on how rock-n-roll was shaped by Alabama. The documentary of Muscle Shoals is amazing on how a little music studio in northwest Alabama shaped rock-n-roll and also launched Southern Rock as a new genre. I knew nothing about our influence, I was raised in Alabama, but it is beyond significant. Enjoy your joy and thanks for sharing.
Loretta has so many great songs. You should try “Fist City” sometime.
Hello Darlin' and Love to lay You Down. Conway Twitty has a smooth gorgeous voice.
Conway Twitty's real name was Harold Jenkins. In 1956 he recorded for Sun Records under his real name, however Sam Phillips didn't release any of those recordings at that time (they've been released since). He took his stage name from a road map Conway Arkansas and Twitty Texas. His 1st chart hit was Give Me Some Lovin' on Mercury Records in 1957. He was known as Conway Twitty by then. That song was a rerecording of one of Sun rockabilly recordings but done in a slower beat.
Conway's song That's My Job is one of my favs. Emotional song. Keep tissues within reach.
When Loretta started out, her first partner was a bass singer named Ernie Tubb, who had been in Country for about a decade by himself. He had hits with 'I Could Waltz across Texas with You', 'Thanks a Lot', and a bunch more. Together they did 'Mr & Mrs Use To Be' and a ton more. I don't know if they only stopped being singing partners because of his death, or they stopped so she could tour as a solo artist. Don't know if I even knew at the time. But a few years later, the way I heard it, Conway and Loretta were clowning around in a studio together. He'd liked her tunes and she liked his stuff, when he left Sun Label (same place as Elvis, Johnny Cash, Charlie Rich, Roy Orbison and so many others) and became a Country artist. I want to think she did him a favor, because she was passing Ernie Tubb's favor on down the road, and took him under her wing, the way their elder did with her, teaching him the ropes. However they got together, they had a good string of wonderful hits, just like she and her mentor did. I really don't think you can beat either couple for good songs. Especially, in this day and age! I know I bad mouth this new stuff they want to call new Country a lot, but before I am done with the 2 of you, you will know the difference between today's music, the 1980's Country and the good stuff from before the '70's. By the way, this duet song has always been my favorite of theirs. God bless you and keep you strong!
