@@LM-hb6yn nope. She she after the making of the video. The video is just a video. He covered another artists work and put his own twist on it. Trent Reznors version was about a young man and his spiral into self destruction in the beginning stages of life. Cash made it about an old man and the spiral into self destruction and regret. Pretty damn cool from both artists. June Carter died. February 3 months after the making of the video. Johnny Cash followed that September.

It's a song of regret, he regrets he didn't treat the people in his life better. He regrets he let drugs in his life. He realized the "things" in his life mean nothing. He wishes he could start over and keep himself instead of becoming who the person he is. It's very sad! As we age and self reflect we all have regrets. Some more then others. Once we get close to death we see more clearly how special life really is and how much we value it.

There’s 2 kinds of people in this world. The first, listens to this song, and feels empathy for Johnny. They stare on in a sort of awe, stunned by the obvious pain. They sort of watch helplessly as they watch a priceless treasure die. And say “I wish I knew more about Johnny Cash.” The second, listens with this song, and feels a familiarity that is impossible to put into words. It helps to know more about Johnny Cash, but regardless memories from their lives are flooded back. And the pain of life is uniquely… treasured? Appreciated. Understood and made a part of the individual. This person hurts along with Johnny Cash.

The song was recorded at Johnny's place. June Carter Cash, his wife, is on the stairs. June had died months before the video came out. She had come down to make sure that Johnny wasn't working too hard. You can see the concern on her face. The director saw her there and had the camera include her in the shot (unbeknownst to her) and kept her in the film. It was also the last time Johnny played that piano. When he closed it, it was like closing of his life. Johnny died a few months later.

The first singer to get awards from country, gospel, and rock halls of fame. The man in black rode a rocky road to get too the top. Only to let it all slip from his hands. The hurt is that he spent so many years on drugs, drunk, and angry. His Mother was his best friend for a long time, then his wife died, shortly before the man himself some months after this song. The song resonates because, after all the fame all that was left is a empire with no worth to a dying man.

Johnny Cash is a man my legal parents/grandparents and I hold in common. An devoutly christian man, who went to prisons to sing about the folly of humankind, how low you can go, and the struggle living in a lower class. He also partied to hard and very well got too far into the libations along the way, but knew what he was doing to himself and others. This song rendition can suck you dry, but it's a swan song before he left looking for a humble redemption, telling once again that people can stop before they get to the final throne. We hear many new versions of this kind of sorrow, for some those new ones seem muddled or maybe sharper, but as close as I am to my home, this is the one I know the best.

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails said it was no longer his song , it is Johnny Cash's song , what a tribute to Johnny Cash 🥺❤ from the song writer It was not only meant for him to sing , it was a song that he lived God Rest his Soul We don’t mourn musicians death because we knew them , we mourn them because they helped us to know ourselves The pain that this song is and it is also his life , one most of important gifts of his life , was to have his wife Everyone he knows goes away , his wife June did go away before him but he also lived almost all of his life with her. There is some of us , not only also lived a life of pain and suffering and hurt and still are today 🥺 And because of their hurt and not allowing no one get close And although he lived a life that he felt hurt and broken , and because of the choices he made because of hurt , not only did he hurt himself and he hurt others because of his choices , born from his pain Some of us live this kind of life alone without a wife or husband Your only companion is pain , because not only because it's real , it also reminds you constantly that You are Alive ! Please stop repeating the same choices or new versions of the same choices that give you the same result . Choose your Savior Jesus Christ and give him your pain and live his choices for you and the life that he meant for you and only you. He truly loves you And although you didn't know it during your life and the choices you made , he was always with you and you are still here today , Choose Jesus and you will be free , free from everything that was you . Because you are are new self and your life from before is dead . Live in the Peace and Love that Only Jesus can give you because he overcome this world “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NIV

for those who missunderstand this one thing, was that Johnny didn write hurt. this is just a cover of song. Trent Reznor from the band "Nine inch Nails" was the one who wrote "hurt". Johnny asked for the permission to use that song. and Trent was honored to have Johnny ask that question, as Johnny was the most legendary rock artist in the music industry. and Johnny worked with a movie director of some sort to make that music video "hurt". and it was so well put together with history and moments from movies that it seemed like it was his own song, but it wasent. but you can clearly feel the mountains of regret he beared through his life in this song.

@@tonymatrisin4328 - It's a bit like Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix and "All Along the Watchtower" the cover has transformed the song into something else. Downward Spiral was a great and depressing album about addiction and regret but when this song from it was sung by an aging man who had many of the same issues as Trent did but had lived so much longer and seen so much more the lyrics change from somewhat self-pitying to something else and the message becomes more universal because at that point all of us are going to have regrets and done things we are sorry for and we all know that - it becomes a form of wisdom and a message to try to live a better life before it's too late. As good as the NIN version was it could never carry the weight or resonance that Cash's years add to the lyrics.
