this song is the reason his father is alive. The person who donated the kidney that saved his fathers life came forward to be tested after he heard the song saying goodbye. This og version is honest, and painful to watch the genuine emotion as he farewells his father.

James is a famous artist from the UK. His father was a stiff upper-lipped Army Colonel and James was a Captain. This song was written when his dad was having kidney failure. Ironically, his dad had already donated a kidney to someone else and only had one kidney. He developed kidney disease in only his remaining kidney and James wanted to say goodbye to his dad. A distant cousin heard this tune and came forward and the cousin came forward and was tested as a match and donated a kidney and as you said his dad was given the kidney and survived. James said in an interview that he wanted to say goodbye to his dad publicly so that he would always be remembered. That is actually his dad in the video

I don’t care if you’re 15 feet tall weighing 500 pounds, or if you’ve never felt emotion before a day in your life….. this is the song that will do it to you. It’s highly emotional, very relatable, and damn near impossible not to strike you in the heart. Cried for so long after we finished recording, have seen even our own multiple times (editing, then making sure it all was good after uploading) and cried every time then. And that’s on James’ original, and on the Cakra cover. It’s just a very intense song, and James and his dad should both be so proud. Also, absolutely nothing wrong with having these emotions as a man ♥️♥️

See I beg to differ, artists cover other artists all the time, so much so in fact, that most of Celine Dion's most popular songs are covers by other artists. For example, The Power of Love, yet people don't seem to remember or recognize that fact. We cover artists that we are invested in because we support that artist. In this case, it was Cakra Khan but we're invested in him. That's why we covered him first, no disservice to James Blunt at all, we didn't know of him. We are fans of CK and his cover's have brought to light many different original artists to our attention. Lara Fabian comes to mind, as an example because she was simply before our time. I was 10 years old when she was performing her 2000 From Lara with love concert series. I can't speak for other reaction channels, but we cover artists that we like and fans of those artists lead organically through there recommendations. I do apologize for this long comment, I don't do them often, but it triggered a response from me.

The reason I believe James sings it better than anyone else is because he wrote it for his father. He wasn’t just singing it as a cover or as someone singing it to their dad. He wrote it for his dad and the language was lingo Jim and his dad used with each other. So it had meaning and James sang it with power and meaning.

I heard he donated all the proceeds from this video to the UK charity 'Help For Heroes' who do so much great work for ex- servicemen and women. HIs dad is still with us, but I also heard he wasn't doing too great right now (of course I hope that's not the case). 🙋‍♂

James Blunt is a master storyteller but sings from his real-world experiences, the stuff isn't made up. Check out his song "No Bravery", where he wrote about what he saw during his time serving in the Kosovo War in the late 90s while serving the British Army under NATO. The dude is a legit war hero. Also check out "Carry You Home", bloody moving stuff. For something a bit happier, check out "Bonfire Heart".

The SECOND pat on the arm which was cut from the clip shown here. Many reactors stop the video too soon and miss that extremely emotional bit. I blame all the pop-up screens; they’re distracting, prematurely signal the end, and like here, cause viewers to miss something meaningful.

@@helenleeyogini2679 Yes that gets me every time, they were both in the British army and didn't show much emotion toward one another, It's a man thing. But it's things like kidney disease and cancer that make you realise how much you love your family and can't imagine living without them.

no worries about the high energy. That's part of the fun of watching reactions to this song; watching people waltz into it so unsuspecting and then watching their whole demeanor change when they lock eyes with James' soul crushing gaze in the first few seconds.

I have mentioned this on other sites,You have to understand if James blunt never wrote that song it would have never gone around the world and the doner would not know either other side of our world. But it did turn out well in the end.Monsters was inside his farther body.

My dad passed a couple of years before this song came out. Ive often thought i couldnt have said these things to him but i could have sat him down in front of my PC and played this song/video for him. I think i would have done if it had been released a couple of years earlier. Perhaps you might consider foing that when you think the time is right, but maybe dont leave it too long. I so wish i could have done it.

Check out info about James, he’s an absolutely amazing guy, I love his work. This video was shot only once, all the emotion and tears were real. There are so many amazing songs from James, he’s so talented, he writes his own songs, plays the instruments, he sounds exactly the same when live too, no auto tune or anything x

Reiterating what others have said James’s father was terminally ill at the time of recording/releasing this song and video. Miraculously a long distance family member saw the video and was a successful donor match for his dad. Both James and his father were high ranking officers in the British Army (he is English), he’s patron of ‘help for heroes’ profits from this song went straight into the charity. He’s classed as an old school ‘posh’ upper class man, speaking the Queens English. Close friends with members of the royal household etc. Side notes Ed Sheeran and the late Carrie Fisher are godparents to his sons.

The thing you have to know about James Blunt is he is a British (very very English) former soldier who has undertake several tours of duty in parts of the world where we should never have even been. He has seen horror, he’s supposed to be a hard man but when he filmed this video with his father he became the softest pussycat on the planet. He knew he was only going to be able to film this video in one take, no matter how much he ended up crying he to,d his production team to keep filming because he’d never attempt a re-do. His dad was dying but is thankfully still here purely because this song became a bit of an anthem to encourage people to donate organs and someone heard that message and donated what James’s dad needed. At the beginning of the video I felt you were mocking his voice and we’re approaching the video incredibly lightly, by the end of the video I see you realised you approached it wrongly so thank you for the humility. James is one of the most talented singer songwriters there are, as you noticed, his voice is unique but that’s because he has a range most female singers wish they could reach but the torture he was going through almost made his vocal instrument sound like he was screaming but he was in despair and truly believed that any minute he could be grieving. 😢

The original is really really good. The angle of the video clip shows clearly James emotion, which really hit the hearts of the viewers. It really helps to delivering James's feeling that shows clearly in his eyes. His emotions really delivers right to our hearts, as it was his own experience of his Dad's NDE, it must have really deep impact to his heart. But thank God, Feel relieved to know that his Dad is ok now.. And you two are my favourite couple for KZread video reaction!! Bless you and thank you for your reaction. I don't want to compare it to our beloved Cakra's version, coz every artist has their own characteristic and uniqueness. Stay healthy to you both, especially queen Taylor and our little baby there. Absolutely agree with you about everything you said! James’ eyes reaaallly put a lot of the emotion into this one and just gets straight to your heart, making you feel it. I also think it’s absolutely fair to not compare the two, both are uniquely their own and different in a lot of ways. Thanks for watching, and thank you for the continued support ♥️♥️
