He's a convicted prisoner being led out to the gallows to be executed by hanging. They usually close the show with this and considering that's at the end of a 2-2.5 hour set for them to still have the energy they do and for Bruce to sound as good as he does singing at his age and after throat operations, it's breathtaking.

To add to that, it is never known why he was a prisoner. I have seen Maiden many times and you are right they do end their shows with this and the energy is just so amazing. Up the Irons!

They don't usually close the show with this. This is in the late part of the show, with The Number Of The Beast but they close it with Run To The Hills, Iron Maiden (is gonna get you! 😂) and Running Free

@@donbergeson6771 Every single show of theirs I have been to they closed and jam with Running Free (in the 80s and 90s). In the Live After Death, Running Free is the final song too. I've been a fan for 15 years at that time, and everyone did know Running Free was their final song as well as 2+2=4. Maybe not now

Anyone else hear "SCREAM FOR ME, LONG BEACH!!" during the solo, or have i listened to Live After Death too much?

I saw them in Milwaukee for that tour, 2nd row, near the center aisle. Steve Harris seemingly looking right at me, singing along to Bruce on certain songs, sweat dripping off him and influencing my musical direction. Instantly my favorite band!!!!!!

Rule #1 with Iron Maiden. Gotta watch it LIVE ! They all command the stage always a great performance And the crowds are so involved.

Hallowed be the name is the best song ever made ! The composition is so simple but unique nobody else had imaginated it!

What the lyrics says and for the musical composition that tell us exactly the moment when he is being killed is one of my favourite songs ever

Holy shit, this song slapped the soul out of my body. My first time hearing it, I was never much of an Iron Maiden guy, I didn't know they went this HARD and so melodic, and the vocals OMG, that boy has lungs. Love it love it love it, goes into my music folder immediately.

My first Maiden show was for this album 1982, I was 13, I’m am 52 now. Up the Irons for life! This is real Metal 🤘🏻💀🤘🏻

Shout out to the late Clive Burr on the drums. This was his last appearance on an Iron Maiden record. I never really understood why he was replaced until it was revealed later that Clive had been diagnosed with MS and it left him unable to play and tour. I'm glad you noticed the energy he is putting out during this song. It's quite something to see live played live \m/

Yes Phil Lynott was , is ,and always will be the greatest!!! Iron Maiden sound comes from Thin Lizzy. Twin guitars up front. Brian Downey's drums. Yeah.

Clive Burr was such an underrated drummer, Nicko may be more technical but Clive had that swing vibe.

Seen Iron Maiden in the 80s 90s 00 10. Four different decades. Never gets old even took my Eighty old father to see them. He loved it.

Great react! Best album, best Maiden song and the best Line Up with the monster Clive Burr on drums! Best metal drummer (rip) Up the Irons!

Watch them live in concert you will not regret it. Ultimate showmen.

also seen these guy's live in 1985 at the fabulous forum, in L.A , it was the peace of mind tour i was 15, and the show was so amazing we went back the next night and bought scalper tickets and the show was just as amazing, and to see Eddie Maiden hover over the crowd was wild, and i still have that ticket stub also...

Iron Maiden and motown filled both sides of my house growing up. Heard it all. All is good.

I was in middle school the first time I heard Iron Maiden - was 14 the first time I saw them live in the 80's. Will be seeing them live for the 6th time in October at the age of 51 - Iron Maiden, like Rush and a few other bands have been the soundtrack for my entire adult life. It is always great to see other people appreciate them and experience them for the first time.

Up the Irons! Maiden forever! "Wasted Years" , "Fear of the Dark" live in Rio, "Dance of Death" en vivo, "Pashcendale". So many songs.

Amazing band and song, one of the greatest live bands also

God level status live performances, I don't say that lightly.

I grew up listening to this band being the favorite band of my dads and his 6 brothers in texas this album alone was played NUMEROUS times at bbqs and brings back so many memories, First concert when i was in third grade in Detroit was this band, and i can say listening to them never gets old, Bruce's vocal ability is legendary along with the entire band and will forever be the greatest metal band in my eyes.

I'm waiting in my cold cell, when the bell begins to chime... Reflecting on my past life, and it doesn't have much time. So poetic and profound. He's about to be taken to his death, and sings about what he's going through. Been listening to Maiden since 1983. NOTB, Bruce Dickinson's first album as singer of Maiden. That's right BJ 🤘🤘. Up the Irons!

Didn’t know what we had back in the 80s what talent we had seen this band in 1985 and they were flawless

The official video was recorded live in 1982 in Hammersmith days before the album was released and is better then the studio version. 40 albums,touring this year and almost 3k of concerts and the lead guitaristS playing in harmony.

It can’t get any better than that. One of the top 10 heavy metal song of all time.

Lol my sister used to be a metal head and all of these songs used to scare the crap out of me lol. Now I’m enjoying them.

I had a cool English teacher play Rime of the Ancient Mariner while the class read the actual poem.

Listening to Iron Maiden is like a history lesson in song in some songs and fantasy in others. UP THE IRONS!

These reactions to 'Hallowed' never get old. I spoke to guy in work. We went to see Clutch. Awesome band. He said he's never been a Maiden fan but he likes 2 Minutes to Midnight. 'You're a Maiden fan, you just don't know it' ,😂 I've heard 'Hallowed' thousands of times but it always stands the hairs on the back of my kneck

As a Maiden die hard this is one of their end all be all songs. Its a masterpiece to us.

40 years old and I still get shivers down my arms 👏🤟 Saw them at The Roskilde Festival back in '03. Not ideal playing in the afternoon in broad daylight if you ask me, but Maiden still always give you what you want. This is one of the rally epic hard rock songs ever recorded. A true masterpiece.

I love how Asia pays attention to the lyrics the way she does.

The best time to listen to Iron Maiden, is every time that you listen to Iron Maiden.

Thumbs up all over the place for this one. This is one of the maidens most atmospheric and dynamic Tunes. It is a fan-favorite and there haven't been many tours that they did not play this song on. I would recommend the track fear of the dark as it is another great example of Maidens ability to touch on subtle and also explosive Dynamics. Good stuff. Cheers

I was in high school when I first heard Iron Maiden. I had just picked up and started learning to play the guitar 🎸 I was going on 16 and trying to learn all the great rock that was coming out at the time(Boston,Journey,Kansas,Styx,Van Halen of course)🤣 I wasn’t really into the real hard stuff but then I hear this song called “Flight of Icarus”by Iron Maiden” and it gave me goosebumps 😳and my whole outlook on rock changed in that moment🤔and to this day when I wanna go hard, they’re my go to band! Not long after that experience, I go to pick up a copy of the Guinness Book of World 🌎 Records which was a “thing”for me back then and I started thumbing through it and I saw that Iron Maiden had taken the crown from The Who as the LOUDEST BAND IN THE WORLD 🌍😆 A title which they held for quite a while🤟Y’all have got to hear Rime of the Ancient Mariner! It’s their “crowning achievement”It’s a long one, but trust me when I say it is well worth the sit down 😁 14:39

Toss up between my faves Iron Maiden & Black Sabbath I have been warming up on my drum set to this song for decades. My fave drummer along with Keith Moon (The Who). Just Pure raw Talent. By the way these guys still sound like this live

This is one of my all time favorite songs. Carrying the lows for that long in a row. I have seen more Iron Maiden than any other group and I seen alot back in the day. Asia BJ. I love how new generations are appreciating Iron maidens genius and how it still stands up today. It validates how much I was into them back in the 80's . The bands incredible skills as story tellers and musicians. (Rime of the Ancient Mariner is one of the best story telling tunes to check out.) Part of the problem to get people to really listen to them for the first time back then was that the recordings of those first albums were not very good and the bass wasn't there unless you really had it blasting through the old Akai ProLab if you could afford one. So first time listeners a lot of the time only heard a racket coming out of a crappy stereo and could not hear the lyrics properly and promptly went scurrying back to their pop music. IM will always be number 1 for me, so many great memories and partys had listening to them. The worst thing did happen to our group of friends, We all pre bought tickets to the Power Slaves concert in New Zealand one town over when the new album was released and had been looking forward to it for weeks only to have a Wharfies strike in Australia prevent the set and PA gear getting here on time so the concert was cancelled ! It still hurts to this day that we missed the most iconic show they ever did. Very sad we just had to get drunk instead and wind up the stereo :( Cheers from NZ & "Up The Iron's"
