    "Leon DeCaprio" is Adam Chance, known as Chance to avoid confusion. He's the baritone, but he covers bass when Tim Foust is singing a lead line. Chance also sings a nice tenor such as in the first lead in American Pie with Don Mclean. But he also did the funny twangy sound at the beginning and end, which sounds like a jaw harp or Jew's harp. That looks like a tiny 2 inch (5cm) metal harp body with a metal flappy thing that you pluck while you hum through the harp. Of course he used a fancy harmonic overtone singing method to produce the sound. That's where you sing a drone note but also produce moving overtones at the same time. A double resonance trick in the vocal chords and voice box area. The Hu do this on a number of songs. Using it to make a jaw harp sound is unusual. Did you notice that Tim actually dropped a fifth or maybe an octave just after his solo to cover bass chord notes?

  • @Loruca

    @Loruca

    2 жыл бұрын

    Chance actually does that overtone singing throughout the whole song. It's there in the background. The only times it isn't there is when they all sing together in the lines that repeat what was just sung by the soloist.

    Have a listen at 05:15 in this vid. You can hear him drop a whole octave from the verse he'd sang before. It's a sort of background rumble at that point and most people miss it.

There are so many top notch songs they have put out. I would highly recommend "Sea Shanty Medley" done during Lockdown while they were spread out over three states. I would also recommend their latest one "Ain't Going Down" . They have audio only on their KZread but you HAVE to see the video. Due to licensing, they couldn't release it to KZread so it lives on their Facebook page. That one still blows my mind and I am a fan. Oh and keep in mind, they have a sense of humor that comes out in quite a few of their videos.

    You have just been introduced to the best a cappella group out there. This song blew me away when I first heard it & I was completely hooked. These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. They are known for their tight harmonies. Tim Foust is one of the best bass singers out there & their beatboxer vocal percussionist Adam Rupp can simulate any sound. This song is very old & is done in the bluegrass country style. It was used in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney.

    Yes!! You did this song! As you said, this is generally the "introduction song" to Home Free, and an incredible showcase for all their talents. Although Chance (Adam Chance/"Leo" who goes by Chance to avoid confusion with the human percussion machine Adam Rupp) doesn't get a solo line (he does on a lot of newer songs) in this one, he is responsible for that amazing mouth harp that you heard. Wanna have some fun? Watch the "Butts Medley." Have a blast going down the rabbit hole!! 😁

  • @marshac7738
    @marshac77382 жыл бұрын

    Home Free is the best--period. They are completely acapella and make all "instrumental" sounds themselves. Chance doing the jaw harp sound really sets the stage for this song's story. Tim's bass line completely grounds the harmonies and Adam's voice percussion simply cannot be beat. This performance highlights a lot of Home Free's strengths although they also handle just about any other genre amazingly❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️

    Oh, it gets better. I'll let other folks make specific suggestions. There are no bad choices. :) Man of Constant Sorrow is a traditional song, going back to 1913 or so and with several versions of the lyrics. There was a version in the movie O Brother Where Art Thou. In this version, Adam Rupp does the fake drums, the fake harmonica and some of the woodsy/animal effects. Onstage, he uses a looping machine, because he's great but even he can't do all those things at the same time. The group's newest member Adam Chance does the Juice Harp, Diggeri-Doo, whatever. They just call him Chance, to avoid confusion with the other Adam. You could contact the group and suggest they call him Leo instead. :) Tim Foust wasn't at the bottom of his range here. Is he comparable to Geoff? Hard call, since the ranges are similar and each have their followers. But Tim can go very low (sometimes blows out speakers in concert) and very high. He has a personal KZread channel with solo multitrack recordings, similar to what Geoff has. (The rabbit hole has many tunnels.)

    I love your reactions to my favorite a cappella group! This was the first song I heard by them, and I was hooked! If you react to Home Free, their fans, the Home Fries, will come. In droves. But we’re a pretty cool bunch 😉 Front left in the video, we have the silky smoothness of tenor Rob “the beard” Lundquist. His lead in End of the Road is a must-see. I also love him in Bless the Broken Road. Back left is baritone/bass Adam Chance, called Chance due to another Adam in the group. He took over for co-founder Chris Rupp, who left on good terms to pursue other things. Chance is the one doing the mouth harp here. I love his lead in Sea Chanty Medley, Winter Song, and Brothers in Arms - a fantastic tribute to troops and an absolute must see! Center is the high tenor, the fabulous Austin Brown. When A Man Loves a Woman. That’s all that needs to be said. Seriously. Back right is founding member Adam “freak of nature” Rupp, tenor/beatboxer/vocal percussionist. He has several good drum solos, and to see his genius for arrangement, Do You Hear What I Hear, which (in my opinion) also showcases them individually and blending as a group. In that video, you also see Chris Rupp. I highly recommend Ain’t Goin Down (Til the Sun Comes Up), which is only on Facebook due to some kind of copyright issue (but you can react to it on YT). Last, but not least, front right, basso profundo with a 5+ octave range, is Tim Foust, who is apparently part dragon. He co-leads in Brothers in Arms. I also love him in Hillbilly Bone, The Butts Remix (which should be watched for comedic value alone!), and Champagne Tastes (which he wrote). To see their amazing harmonies, How Great Thou Art, Helplessly Hoping, and (again) Brothers in Arms. I also recommend Tim’s collaboration with Peter Hollands in Misty Mountains. One tip: don’t watch Mayday until you’ve seen several videos and know the guys and their usual roles. 😉 Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole. It’s deep, but you’ll never want to escape!

    I discovered them during the pandemic and fell in love. They are known for their tight harmonies. They won the NBC show the Sing Off in 2013 a season after Pentatonix won. All ‘a cappella’. The beatboxer is Adam Rupp and he’s amazing. He can do drums, harmonica, castanets, bugs, all kinds of sounds with his mouth. Chance (Leo) was doing the mouth harp at the beginning and the end of the song. They can all beatbox to a degree. The bass, Tim, has a 5 octave range so he can go super low and sing up with the tenors. They sing all genres of music and also write and sing their own songs. Try Helplessly Hoping, Folsom Prison Blues, In the Blood to hear more great harmonies. Great reaction!

    Songs; Clowning around, Working For a Living, Butts Medley, Hillbilly Bone. Great covers, My Church, Folsom Prison Blues, In The Blood, Country Road, Brothers In Arms, When a Man Loves a Woman, Unchained Melody, Helplessly Hoping, and Mayday, to start. I've left off a hundred, or 2. It's a very big rabbit hole…

    Home Free is simply the most awesome vocal band there is. They are such versatile, ridiculously talented, hard working, fun loving guys who respect and appreciate their fans. They can cover about any genre of music and crush it. They'll make you laugh, cry, smile, and think. They can rev you up, chill you out and just make you happy. Adam Chance (referred to as Chance) is doing the jaw harp in the back ground. He also does a nice banjo or guitar pluck sound. He usually sings baritone/bass. Adam Rupp who does 99% of the beat boxing and vocal percussion is world class and phenomenal. Adam's "no - monica" is legendary. Others can do the harmonica sound, but not nearly as good as Adam's. The other 4 beat box a little but no where near Adam's skill level. Austin Brown is the sky high tenor with a voice strong enough to bend steel. Rob Lundquist is the lower tenor with a voice as sweet and smooth as caramel with some gospel and soul thrown in. Tim Foust is the super bass with an insane range. Once you start following Home Frees' body of work, you will never be disappointed.

    Yeah #3 comment LOL - I love the way you react!! That sound you hear (the digeridoo sound) at the beginning and end is done by a Jewish or Mouth harp. Adam Chance can be seen doing it at the very end (the last member shown) of the video. Adam Rupp (the beatboxer in the second row) is the guy making the harmonica sounds. He is one of the best top all time beat boxers of any of these groups. Tim Faust, is the bass and is unquestionably one of the most unique and powerful bass voices out there. You will also discover that he has an amazing range, but that's for another video. lol You have listened to two Country genre songs that Home Free has done. Be prepared when you move onto some songs that are NOT Country genre. You have been warned!!! LOL I forget what the next song on the list I gave you was but I would suggest you do "End of the Road" their cover of Boyz2Men song. Not Country genre.

    This is a better reflection of what Home Free are about than "Ring of Fire" IMHO. They have some great songs for you to check out. Personal favourites are: "Butts Remix/Medley" (done for April Fools a few years back - lots of talent and fun on display), "When a Man Loves a Woman", "Folsom Prison Blues", "9 to 5", "Some Girls Do" (Chance, Leo's 'brother' takes the lead), "The Gambler" and "Sea Shanty Medley". Hello from South Africa btw. 👋

    Home Free have a very varied catalogue and never seem to come up with anything less than excellent. I've been enjoying them, mainly via reactors on their journeys of discovery, for three years or so now. No sign at all of tiring of hearing these talented musicians, yet they come across as relatable as people too. Personal favourites include Auld Lang Syne, Meet in the Middle, Brothers in Arms, In the blood, Winter song and the more upbeat Working for a living and Ain't going down. They range from showing a high spirited sense of humour to seriously moving.

    Home Free is incredible. Everything they do is great. And although they are a Country a cappela group, they can really sing all genres. They really all have great voices with their own specialties. Even Adam Rupp who started the group with his brother Chris Rupp. Chris left the group in 2016 to go solo but also to start other projects with his sister, among others. Adam Rupp-Beatboxer but is actually an inhuman freaking good mouth artist. Tim Foust- Deep bass but also as a tenor and everything in between is possible. Austin Brown-High tenor with his great runs and high notes. Rob Lundquist (beard and glasses)-Tenor, with a voice like velvet and so much soul. Adam Chance (back left, who is called Chance) - Baritone/ Bass, a voice so smooth and sexy. And who here also makes the Jaw harp sound. There is no real lead singer in Home Free. They look at every song whose voice suits it best, no egos, no rivalries, great personalities etc. Besides, they can all beatbox (see their live performance 9to5). .. This is one of the many covers they do in addition to various originals, and each one is just amazing.

Finally I learned the truth and fell down the Home Free rabbit hole and have been over to the USA to see them live ..... Fantastic!! There are just so many songs I recommend you watch: Sea Shanties, Do You Hear What I Hear; Mayday, Blue is the colour, 9 to 5 ..... so many especially those done in the lockdown. Have fun.
