I love Home Free's version of this beautiful song. This is in my top 5 songs by them. They really brought out the emotion of it. Tim's lead is amazing with his deep bass. Also love Rob & Chance's solos plus the great harmonies. And Adam is tasteful in making the simple sound of pounding his chest & thigh. I believe we can change our course in life. We don't have to make the same mistakes as our parents. We can choose to rise above it.

In addition to the beautiful voices and harmonies, the lyrics to this one hits SO hard. I’ve seen a lot of reactors end up in tears. For those of us who come from dysfunctional families and the mental illnesses that result, this song puts into words what so many feel. I’ve never heard the original but I can’t imagine that it was delivered any better. As you noted, Adam chose a perfect way to keep the beat.

I love how Home Free keeps a lot of their video environments simple--allows the focus to be on their incredible acapella vocals. Their 4-part harmony is already peerless, as far as I'm concerned, but their 5-part harmony is even more impactful❣️🎼🥰🎶

Their videos are also part of their country brand. Less theatrical, more down-home and earnest. This includes the setting, and their outfits too. And even the harmonies they choose. It’s a good fit all round.

I hope you noticed that Adam was also vocally backing the lead singers as well as beatboxing.

Of course their harmonies are as usual brilliant. The song is interesting as well. It plays on a theme of nature versus nuture. Can people overcome an unhappy childhood/past? Or are we damned to repeat the mistakes and tragedies we've experienced? A quote that I know that you will recognize Craig. "Sometimes darkness can show you the light." Although that is a completely different kind of band the message still fits. We can overcome if we fight for it. The past does not have to determine the future.

Were you able to make it to the Home Free tour in Europe? Home Free in the Blood is one of my favorites. They reach down into your soul and meet you right where you are at regarding the specific verses and their meanings. Just wow, they nail it with the nuances of their voices right to the core of your soul. ❣

We are treated to Adam Rupp’s beautiful fifth harmony part in this one. The body percussion allowed for him to sing with the others on this one. That fifth part is always great to hear.

The original is by John Mayer. I think if I sang an original and Home Free was going to cover it, I'd be worried. They always do a song justice and often up-grade it. As always the singing, harmonies & beatboxing are perfect. This is such a deep song, whether one's character is determined by nature, nurture or by one's own decisions.
