I'm a 59 year old former soldier, volunteer firefighter, and carpenter. I have tears streaming down my face. This is the song I sang to my wife (in her ear) at our wedding in '95. She said that was the first time she'd heard it and it was her new favorite song, in spite of me. She was the light of my life and the best friend I've ever had. She died in my arms 13 years ago, and I really want to be with her, my sweet Lord.
This video was shot after George had passed, this is an old song 1970. A contest was held and this is the one that Olivia & Dhani approved.

When i first saw this video paired with this song, I honestly thought it was just 2 millennials mocking the song.
Just to give you a bit of background on the video, in 2016 George Harrison's widow and son held a worldwide contest for a video to accompany this 1971 song from George. This winning video features Emma Rubinowitz and Esteban Hernandez, both of the San Francisco Ballet. The reason it was selected is because it conveyed the joy of the song in the form of dance.

My closest friend whom I have been friends with for 57 years is a major Beatles-phile were talking about which of the Beatles single career we thought was best. He chose Paul and I chose George. He was surprised but he agreed with my reasoning. I said Paul is far and away the most commercial of the four. John is the most unique. RIngo played songs that fit his limited vocals but George was the poet and philosopher. So as I like songs with more depth George is my favorite.

This is not your usual love song of a man proclaiming his love to his woman. He is singing his love to his God and is grateful for His undying love. It is a hymn. Set aside a few hours and listen to the album from which this song comes, entitled: All Things Must Pass. It is a triple record set. His debut solo album in America. It's monumental !

I've always seen this song as an example of George's penchant for slipping a spiritual message in a love song. I think the "You" who's love he can't do without is God. Amazing tune that I have loved since childhood. Beatles freak from the crib on up, yo!!!

I would LOVE for you to react to the two "new" Beatles songs, "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love". They were done for the Anthology series. Paul and Yoko went thru a ton of John's demo tapes, etc. and they chose these two songs. The three surviving (at that time) Beatles then went into the studio and with the help of Jeff Lynne, finished these songs. Paul said they treated it as if "John was just away on holiday". I had forgotten how much I love this song! Great reaction! Thanks for the reminder. ❤
One of George's best!
Probably next to My Sweet Lord is my favorite solo song from Harrison.
loved this video since it first came out, What is life? but 2 young people enjoying life, dancing on tables, through a cemetery and the woods, it conveys the message of the song perfectly
George loved Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound" and this is absolutely drenched in Phil's dramatic production. You keep talking about "official videos", but remember this song is from 1970.There wasn't such a thing as "videos" yet. Occasionally, you'd see 'promotional videos" that were released by record companies, like the Rolling Stones "It's only rock 'n roll", but videos didn't really start to become a thing until around 1979.
The video looks more like it belongs in a 1950s musical. The movie 'Carousel' comes to mind. Ironically, the 21st-century video producer was likely marketing teens. The video was actually done after George had passed about 40 years after the song was originally released in 1970.
I sing this song to my wife to let her know what she means to me
..."Class of 76"...This song was most likely playing on the radio when the yellow ball smiley face with the quote "Have a Nice Day" was created and started showing up EVERYWHERE!
Great Song!!! Another great George song is "Blow Away" from early 1979.

Paul McCartney & Wings - Uncle Albert - Band on the Run - Listen to what the Man says - With a Little Luck - Jet - Live and Let Die - Coming Up - Let em In - When the Night - My Love
And George saw vocals as simply another instrument. He never tried to overtake the other players with vocals in his music
Ringo - 'Photograph' written by George. 'I'm the Greatest' written by John. ' Oh My, My' and 'You're Sixteen' among others...
How crazy to be a member of the Beatles and be underrated.

This is my favorite solo Harrison song, and early hit from his post Beatles day, made even better by Eric Clapton on guitar! Harrison was a very spiritual guy, and that thread flows through a lot of his music.

Phil Spector co-produced the All Things Must Pass album set (3 records) so his style pushed tons of overdubbed instruments over the voice, causing the songs (great songs btw) to sound a bit mushy. The remastered CD helped some but that was just the gothic character of the album.

I was so glad to see George Harrison get the respect he so well deserved when he went solo. He was always over shadowed by John and Paul.
The vocals lost in the back is due to the famous producer Phil Spector and his well known "Wall of Sound" style. The whole All Things Must Pass album that this song is from is pretty much like that.
This video is perfect in its imperfection. What is Life? Perfectly imperfect. The video was selected by George's wife and son as part of a contest for what the official video for this song should be. I love that they picked this one. p.s. Thank you for what you do!
This one of my favorite songs to come on the radio in the early 70's, turned it up every time. When I first saw this video a couple years ago, I didn't like it at the first time, but watched again and now I think it's genius! The girl is going through the phases of life. Young , clumsy, playful, (the playground) - Getting older, learning about mortality(graveyard) - Puberty and her blossoming sensuality,(the leaves) - Out on her own, (the forest) - And finally, meeting her mate. They even seem to have a fight but get back together during the dance. The only touch I wished they added was just as the song is closing out, they're followed by a little one, dancing along behind them. Members of the San Francisco Ballet submitted this in a contest to be the official video of the song.
Hi from the Uk. I was 14yrs old when the Beatles hit the charts with ‘Love Me Do’ so grew up with their music. Was lucky enough to meet all four whilst attending the premiere of “ Yellow Submarine “. We were besieged along other celebrities in the cinema foyer by hundreds of fans when police lost control. After swapping brief pleasantries, enjoyed the movie etc, they moved off. I was going to ask them to sign the programme but as they were in conversation with Peter Sellers I lost my nerve. At 74 I still remember what a magical night it was.
This is from George's 1970 album, " All Things Must Pass". This was written by George for Billy Preston but decided to keep it as a faster rocking song suited to George. Phil Spector produced this album. A wonderful upbeat tune that asks that question, What is Life? His backup vocals were Eric Clapton and the entire Bonnie and Delaney and Friends Band. Multiple acoustic quitars were played by Badfinger.super tune. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️ ❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦

IMHO, one of the finest rock songs ever written.
This video was picked by George's widow and son. It was a contest. Interesting "what is life without you" she is alone in the first part, her dance is chaotic (interpretive), in the second part she is with her partner, and her dance is a bit more polished. This is one of my favorite videos, dancing through San Francisco National Cemetery, I think the soldiers would approve. Such a breath of fresh air.

Interesting fact. You just reacted to Eric Clapton who was infatuated with George Harrison's first wife, Patti Boyd. He was so infatuated that he ended up marrying Boyd after she and Harrison divorced. As far as this song is concerned, it's a beautiful sentiment and typical of Harrison's solo work, always wondering about life and the spiritual world. He was a genius musician and sadly underused when he was part of the G.O.A.T while they allowed him one sometimes two and rarely three of his own compositions per album. When he was a part of The Beatles, his first No. 1 didn't come until 1969, the gorgeously written and composed "Something."

As much as I like the free spirited girl in the video, especially when she is literally dancing past the graveyard, it is distracting to me. Ambers chair dancing is sometimes distracting but I’ll never complain about it. It’s a genuine reaction and she feels it.

I agree. It takes away from the song to the point of being annoying.

It's fine to see if you've grown up with this song or at least heard it a few times before seeing this video.

Amber’s chair is NEVER a distraction. If you feel like grooving and dancing, go for it!

You are the minority. it's a great video,
Oh good you’re doing the video. The song is from 1970 but the video came out after his death, a competition for who could make the best one for this song was held and George’s widow Olivia and son Dhanni chose this as the winner.
George's That's What It Takes might be an underrated gem.
Rest in Peace George❤
Those two young dancers explain what life is so beautifully! The video explains the music, unlike most that do take away from the true meaning of the song.
Bee Gees - Lonely Days (1970) [High Quality Stereo Sound, Subtitled] will become your #1 favorite Bee Gees song, and that is saying plenty
