Rakim grew up listening to Jazz ...he's the god MC and Eric B is a master.

Didn’t notice the jazz connection before, but now I do. Thanks.
Classic Old School Rap
The best era 🤘🤘
Rakim said in an interview that he listened to alot of jazz to expand his vocal structure with singing his lyrics.
Just one of my favourite all time jams. It’s cool that BJ is rocking the Jays hat to this. This song was used in Raptors commercials a few years back. BJ clearly reppin the T Dot.
Woohoo awesome! Follow the Leader my favorite of theirs, thanks y’all!
Rakim was dead serious too. He would fight you over his music, no smiles , no laughing.
Rakim comes from musical family his mom was classical jazz singer. His brother was a musician his aunt his Ruth Brown R&b jazz soul singer
I Ain't No Joke, My Melody, Paid In Full, and Follow The Leader are other bangers. They were out in the mid 80's to the mid 90's. Great time in rap.

They still doin it like legends. Saw em in Boston House of Blues a few years ago. Amazing. YoYo opening act....One of the tightest hip hop shows I've ever seen.
Now I gotta go diggin for the album , i have it around here some place lol Thank you for this, great way to start the weekend off !!
The baseline is so nuts!
Saxes were sampled from Kool and the Gang's Ronald Bell, off the "Give it up" track recorded around ''75
i like eric and rakim thanks old school classics but there is also another group from the 80s old school rap it's EPMD it would be good to react to one of their sounds like "you got to chill"👍
Hahaha I already knew this song, so I was just bopping along with my eyes closed at first and when I opened them BJ and I had the exact same body language! ❤❤❤😂😂😂
All right player I’m here. Finest hip-hop ever.❤
In late of 1989 a lot of east coast Rappers a bit in the west from 89-92ish many used jazz samples in their beats it was very popular before that James Brown was sample very heavy and of course other genre were sample or remade as well.
They were fire back in the day!

Love this~!
Love that song!
Classic! This was a great era in hip hop. If you like those jazzy samples maybe check out these tracks Us3 - Cantaloop Lucas - Lucas with the Lid Off
'Follow the Leader'.
lots of current rappers use a nonstop sample. This instrumentation style was what was going on, for example Gangstarr.

It's not just bass that drives the song, it's ACOUSTIC bass! Not too many rap songs have that!
Hip Hop music incorporated all sounds from the beginning. Funk and Soul were first then the rest right after. Also Tribe Called Quest were the first to really infuse Jazz. Please go back to their first album in 86. Paid In full, in my opinion is the blueprint in making a real Hip Hop album. Rakim’s family were performers in Jazz and his mother sang both Jazz & Opera and I believe she performed at the Apollo.
"Pencils and pens are swords..."
It’s funny Asia mentioned Rakim sounded like Will Smith on this song. There’s a rumor that he wrote “Summertime” for him.
Hello, please, PLEASE make a reaction to Dimash's songs written in Los Angeles by Dimash Qudaiberg during the war - "When I've got you" OFFICIAL MV, and the dance performance "Smoky", they are of a very high level, and I continue to watch your reactions to Dimash ,they are professional and kind, and help me live
Hell yeah
Excellent...
Rakim - "The Mystery- Who's God"
This is my theme music
It's funny she said Rakim sounds like Will Smith. It's the other way around. Will Smith said he borrowed Rakim's flow for his song "Summertime".
Yall should do more 1988-1994 NYC rap.

The Golden Era! But I'll say 86
Loved that this song was in Watch Dogs 2, great game.
Go ahead and check out Lyrics of Fury- 🔥
This is DeREAL hip hop ole school
This song came out around 1992. It sounds like it was recorded with some live instruments. That was common with some rap back then. With 80s and 90s rap there was more sampling. That's why you heard more instrument sounds in music back then. In today's rap you don't hear much sampling. So you don't hear many instruments in rap nowadays. You get more digital/computer type sounds now. Maybe sampling became too expensive?
I think he got in a beef with KRS-ONE. I don't know how it got started or ended. But I know that LL Cool J and Kool Moe Dee got into a strong beef. I mean he had one of LL's hats under his jeep tire. LL wrote "Mama Said knock you out " and "I'm Bad" as disses to Kool Moe Dee. Just thought I'd drop that on you cuz to get into a riff with Rakim, you gotta be crazy and careful.

Ultra magnetics pls
Rakim was By far the best on Long Island..only ones close are from Bk and Queens and that's Biggie and Nas
Can you react to the band Lit one song is Miserable, the other Lit song is My own Worst Enemy. Both are better to watch actual video its an experience just a thought, Keep up the good work really like watching you all. If you want another song to think about Nitty gritty dirt band song bame fishin in the dark.
PLEASE REACT TO... EAGLES..(those shoes) great talkbox in this song
Rakim the G..O.A.T React to microphone fiend by them
Sounds like there were actual musicians on this song, not one guy sitting at a computer. Maybe they were sampled but humans made those musical sounds.
None of these current rappers can touch Rakim.
Do Juice (Know The Ledge) by them

U should check out GNR - YOU COULD BE MINE METALLICA- TRAPPED UNDER ICE 👍
Could y’all react to David Phelps singing “Virtuoso” from Legacy of Love? Please react to the official video. To me it is a modern day take on the theme of How Great Thou Art. Thanks!
I would say early to mid 80s. Do you want to take me back? Do some.Brand Nubian.
Old school rap can't be beat,no way. LOL. Modern rap watch and learn school is in session.

Loved the vibe of hip hop around this time, when they were sampling without any fear, the likes of Gang Starr, Stetsasonic etc and then the likes of NWA etc ruined the positive message.
I Ain't No Joke, Microphone Fiend, Paid in Full, Know the Ledge. If you react to "Paid in Full', react to the original song...not the remixed one.
He had been with big daddy kayne
Hello! So been on a Barbara Streisand binge and noticed Y'all did two videos of the same song (WOMAN IN LOVE 💓) and on both you acted like a FIRST TIME reaction and pretty much said the same stuff. No date in the Description as which one was made first. Ssssubidatt?? 🕊️☮️
Most rappers would be flattered to be compared to Rakim. Very few rappers would be flattered to be compared to Will Smith 🤣🤣🤣

Where's drake and kendrick disses?
You guys definitely need to listen to more of these guys. They have songs that are definitely better than this.

This is 80s not 90s
@rhondaatkins1776

It's 90s. 1992. Early 90's so it had a different sound from what comes to mind when you hear 90s hip hop.
Geezuusss... The deep levels of cringe I've gotten from them in this discussion. Somebody has deeply failed them. WOW. 😂😂😂
Whoever wrote the lyrics for this song should never write lyrics for another song again! So many incorrect words, missing up the God's rhymes.
I want to know is that Maceo Parker (of the James Brown band) wailing on the alto?
