Most of the lyrics are metaphorical. It's about the music industry, Southern California lifestyle, excess, addiction, and materialism. Once you enter that life, it is hard to escape.

This is pure talent..Everyone of these guys are lead singers. I saw them last year, 2023 in California..Glenn Frey passed away, he was surely missed. Oh I remember seeing them in concert at Oakland Day on The Green when I was a teen. What a fabulous time to grow up. We 60 something year olds are cool people. We were cool then..I loved how you really understood the song. It's a trap is right! You gotta listen to other Eagles songs, Take It Easy, Witchy Woman...a whole slew of them and all great!!

Sooo many memories associated with The Eagles! They could certainly tell a story like none other. They were considered to be a Supergroup, especially when Joe Walsh came on board, not to mention that Henley and others used to backup Linda Ronstadt. There is more that I hope you delve into. 💜

You have Glen Frey (Fry) on acoustic gutiar, Joe Walsh and Don Felder on lead guitars, Randy Miesner on Bass, and Don Henley on drums. They are all LEAD SINGERS. Henley having many of the hits, as well as Frey. But their biggest hit on the charts was Take It Too The Limit, sung by Miesner, their bassist. Felder rarely sings, but his guitar work makes up for it. Felder wrote the music for this song, and Henley, leaving the Whiskey a gogo club on the sunset strip one night for a long drive across the desert to look for peyote in Needles CA the next morning. On his way he played this guitar riff over and over, passing cactus, empty roads, and lonely motels. He wrote the song about losing you innocence. Going from adolescence to adulthood and how once you start to experience that adult life with all it's perks and responsibilities and how you can never go back to being a kid, you just cannot UNLEARN your lessons.

What a great time it was to grow up with these guys and all the others in the 60s and 70s. The soundtrack of my life, right there!! If you like the singing drummer, you're loving Don Henley. Don got a little edgy in the 80s and you should listen to "Gimme what you got". Great message still relevant today!!

One of the most imagery inducing songs ever written. Notice that the lyrics contain mention of all five senses, of touch, taste, sound, sight, and smell, to heighten the immersion of the listener. You are drawn into the story as the narrator is drawn, with the trap being sprung on the narrator and the listener at the same time. All the while, the music carries you with a seductive, slightly southwestern, and slightly eerie, vibe . It's near-perfect storytelling.

This performance was filmed at the Capital Center in Landover, MD, 2 years after I was born and 12 years later attended my very first concert there, Poison and Warrant….lol. .. This is one explanation of the song Hotel California.. This song is about the [Halfway House] or rehabilitation center of the rich and famous drug and alcohol abusers known as the [Hotel California]. The hotel is for the rich and famous drug and alcohol abusers. "And I was thinking to myself [this could be heaven or this could be hell]." This refers to what he will be subjecting himself to during the very painful withdrawal process. And the hours-long epileptic-like seizures his body will be going through to rid the body of its drugs and alcohol in his system. "Her mind was Tiffany twisted she got the Mercedes Benz. She has lots of pretty pretty boys she calls friends." Tiffany's is world-famous for its fine and very expensive jewelry. She is wealthy with very expensive taste in cars and jewelry. And her friends are actors, models and rich kids. "How they danced in the courtyard Sweet summer sweat. Some dance to remember Some dance to forget." This refers to the painful and gut-wrenching withdrawal process one must go through to rid themselves of the drugs and alcohol they have in their system. "So I called out the captain "please bring me my wine" we haven't had that spirit here since 1969." Refers to the Woodstock era of "Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll." "And still those voices are calling from far away wake you up in the middle of the night just to hear them say... Welcome to the Hotel California what a lovely place what a lovely face. Plenty of room in the Hotel California. They living it up at the hotel California what a nice surprise bring your alibis." In every halfway house or rehabilitation center. The staff along with past drug and alcohol abusers who are counselors and to are part of the staff...Always welcome you with open arms anytime day or night. "What a nice surprise, bring your alibis." This refers to the many excuses the abusers will give to the staff. As to the many reasons why they became addicts. "Mirrors on the ceiling, pink champagne on ice. And she said we are all just prisoners here, of our own device, and in the master's chambers they gathered for their feast they stab it with their steely knives but they just can't kill the beast." The last thing I remember was running for the door I had to find the passage back to the place I was before. Relax said the night man we are programmed to receive you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave!" Mirrors on the ceiling refers to the big room where all the addicts gather to receive their drug substitutes to ween them off of the hard drugs. Pink champagne on ice refers to the drug substitute 'Methadone" which is a liquid and is pink in color. The drug and alcohol addicts are prisoners of their own self-destruction. And they themselves are to blame for letting themselves become drug and alcohol abusers. The Beast is the "Drug and Alcohol Addiction" an addict will have to live with for the rest of their lives. The addict will never be rid of the addiction. It will be a constant battle for the rest of their lives to live drug and alcohol-free. You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave refers to "Once an addict always an addict!"

One of the greatest bands ever when you talk about the collection of talent. Many bands are carried by one artist and once that artist breaks off on their own solo career, the rest of the band members fade away. Not The Eagles. Don Henley probably had the best solo career of the bunch but Glenn Frey also had a few number 1 hits too. Please check out Don Henley's "The Boys Of Summer".

It’s not very often a band will let their drummer be the lead singer. Frontmen are usually expected to run around the stage and dance. With a drummer as a singer, all you can do is cross your fingers, and hope you have a forgiving audience.
