My take is Hotel California is California - specifically LA and Hollywood. At that time, people came to make their dreams come true. It didn't always work out

The voices down the corridor are the call of your addictions . Some dance to remember , some dance to forget , some are chasing the memory of that first high & some are just trying to get straight . You can check out anytime you like , but you can never leave , once an addict , always an addict

Joe Walsh the guy in the red bandana is from Cleveland where I live. The meaning behind the song is this. Fortune & Fame in Hollywood leaves a person trapped forever in its vortex forever.

I am from Norway and I remember when Hotel California came out. I was 16 years old and this song enchanted me. At english class at school we had to write a story of whatever we wanted in english. I just wrote the lyrics from Hotel Califonia I knew those lyrics in my finger tips. After when we should get the storys back my teacher came to me and looked me in the eyes and was very serious and said " Svein, you couldent wrote this story, for gods sake it is very occult" I had to write my story in english one more time. And that was for many a boring story but so sad because I wrote about that kind of music which is a gamechanger. And of cause Hotel California is one of them.

GREAT REACTION. There was no actual Hotel California It is a metaphor. Here is the history of the song. I am older, I am 72 years old. I lived through this. This was my era and my generation. The cry of our ERA, was "SEX, DRUGS AND ROCK AND ROLL" The reference to 1969 was WOODSTOCK. See, the hippie and yippie movement started in California. It was the time of "FREE LOVE and WEED and DRUGS.." Hotel California offered and provided EVERYTHING you wanted or needed. "We are all just prisoners here of our own device." Mirrors over the beds, sex. Alcohol, "The FEAST on the bed, was cut with a knife" the BEAST was DRUGS. (FEED YOUR ADDICTION, (THE DRUG OF THAT DAY WAS HEROIN) Stay as long as you want or leave anytime, (but you NEVER leave your ADDICTION behind). In 1977 they sang about these things in code or EXAMPLE, AND METAPHORS, for words that you could not record in 1977, or they would have been CENSORED and never played on any radio station. In an interview in 2007 the Eagles admitted they themselves were drowning in these temptations, just as ALL of California was. GO BACK AND LISTEN AGAIN TO THE SONG, Listen for the lyrics of, this can be heaven or hell. You will see that I am correct.

Just a song about addiction and living in excess. You're a prisoner of addiction because of your own choices. Its easy to get sober, but you continually take the steps to avoid it. You can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave. You can always get sober, but you're still an addict and always will be. Animals are always wanting pleasure. "We are programmed to receive". Why would anyone not want pleasure? Money and fame take a toll on people and you are drawn towards substances and physical vices.

On a dark desert highway Cool wind in my hair Warm smell of colitas Rising up through the air Up ahead in the distance I saw a shimmering light My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim I had to stop for the night There she stood in the doorway I heard the mission bell And I was thinking to myself "This could be Heaven or this could be Hell" Then she lit up a candle And she showed me the way There were voices down the corridor I thought I heard them say Welcome to the Hotel California Such a lovely place (such a lovely place) Such a lovely face Plenty of room at the Hotel California Any time of year (any time of year) You can find it here Her mind is Tiffany-twisted She got the Mercedes Benz She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys That she calls friends How they dance in the courtyard Sweet summer sweat Some dance to remember Some dance to forget So I called up the Captain "Please bring me my wine" He said, 'We haven't had that spirit here Since 1969" And still those voices are calling from far away Wake you up in the middle of the night Just to hear them say Welcome to the Hotel California Such a lovely place (such a lovely place) Such a lovely face They livin' it up at the Hotel California What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise) Bring your alibis Mirrors on the ceiling The pink champagne on ice And she said, 'We are all just prisoners here Of our own device" And in the master's chambers They gathered for the feast They stab it with their steely knives But they just can't kill the beast Last thing I remember, I was Running for the door I had to find the passage back To the place I was before "Relax, " said the night man "We are programmed to receive You can check out any time you like But you can never leave" 🥰🌹❤🌺🙂

This is just a great song. It’s about greed and excess, especially in LA at that time. The stuff about Satan was just some crazy conspiracy theories cooked up by people trying too hard to find evil in rock n’ roll music. Nice reaction. There’s an enormous amount of talent on that stage. They don’t make music like this anymore. 🎄🌺✌️
