You were not a deer in the headlights, you are now officially a “dear”, a Dimash fan

This is a performance from the "I'm a Singer" contest in China. Already well-known, established performers take part in it. The audience is also not people from the street. There are singers, composers, producers in the hall. At a minimum, the viewer must have excellent hearing. A man flashes behind the scenes in the footage. This is his father, who unexpectedly came to Dimash's performance from Kazakhstan. You can catch the moment when Dimash saw him. This reaction of the audience is understandable. In China, this song is very famous, as is its first performer and copyright holder Vitas. Vitas filed a lawsuit after Dimash's speech, demanding compensation for copyright infringement. I don't know how it ended, but this is the only performance of this song by Dimash. Dimash surpassed Vitas in all respects.

His Mother, in an interview, said he became increasingly despondent in phone calls, alone in China, with a coach and interpreter for weeks, couldn't speak the language, used to having his family and friends close at hand, the family became alarmed. His Father called the producers and told them he was flying in, and why, and he wanted to sit in the audience as a surprise. They were thrilled as everyone had noticed his change of spirit. The camera keeps showing his Dad, waiting for Dimash to recognize him, and finally he did !! That lit up face, beaming as he bounded off the stage grabbing his Dad in a bearhug and swinging him around captured everyone's heart !! His Mom said he told her if he knew his Dad was in the audience, he never would have been that cheeky !!

When asked what she does during those long days of rehearsals when it's her turn, his Mom paused for a second and said...Shop ! Hi good night my lady, I enjoy watching your videos it's beautiful.

The reaction of the audience, and of the other contestants, is the reason that my favorite version of "SOS d'un terrien en detresse" by Dimash remains the one he did for this same show in 2017. That was not only Dimash's first performance on that show, it was his first performance in China, and also the very first song in the first episode of the show for 2017. Following that performance, Dimash became a superstar in China. The very next day, they had to get him bodyguards. "Opera 2" was Dimash's second performance on the show (episode 2.)

This was my introduction to Dimash almost a year ago. I can't go a day without his music since. As a matter of fact, I seldom listen to anyone else now.

If you didn't know already, that's Dimash's father in the audience cheering him. You see him at the end as well.

The original artist that created this song was a guy named Vita after this performance from Dimash, Vita stopped Dimash from ever performing the song again. Great reaction as usual.

This competition is called "The Singer" and was held in 2017 in China. For Dimash to perform this song his organisers had to agree with Vitas. He later performed this song only once more, if my memory is not wrong, in 2018. It's a pity that you didn't watch the video further. You would have learnt more about what Dimash is like. When he thanks the audience and then his gaze falls on a certain person.... Check this out.

This song has its own history in China. The singer Vitas performed it there, and he got a big crowd of fans. So Dimash challenged his idol audience and raised the tone of the song four times, breaking the previous version into pieces. And on the video you can see that he's preparing a surprise, a sly expression and mischievous smile of Dimash, as if to say - Well, what? He just pulled the fans of Vitas to himself with ease 🤣✌

EVEN if on your own time, YOU HAVE TO SEE THE VERSION THAT SHOWS DQ seeing his Dad in the audience who flew all the way to surprise him....IT IS PRICELESS!!!

So everybody knew, what to expect, but they didn't know that Dimash will even higher and higher and higher than the original!

I 100% agree with you on stage presence and performance skills-I buy everything he sells. This was only the second performance night of the 2017 Chinese I AM SINGER competition, which is for singers with professional careers in China. In only a week, Dimash had amassed 900 million subscribers on Weibo (like Twitter) and needs security to go everywhere. This is a VERY popular #1 song in Russia and Asia written and performed by a Russian singer named Vitas-so the whole audience knows it AND they also know Dimash is singing it better, and with more key changes at the end. Hello. Yes, this is a competition in China. Dimash won it. The person who appears at 5:33 and at the end is Dimash's father. His name is Kanat (emphasis on the second A). Thanks for the reaction. Greetings from snowy Moscow.

Fun fact: each of those "howling" parts took roughly 25 seconds to sing before it increase modulated a halftone, at the end of the song he landed on D#6 as the base note, so... if he keeps on modulating to his (known) highest note, the song would become longer for another 9 - 10 minutes more!

Most of the reactions in this video were competitors. The show was the 2017 edition of 'I Am a Singer,' a show with significant differences from Western talent shows on TV. The singers are all professionals, not amateurs, already well-known to Chinese audiences. There are twelve episodes in a season (I think), and each singer presents a song in each episode. (My understanding may be flawed due to translation errors.) A winner is declared at the end of the season. The singers are Chinese, except for one foreign 'guest.' Dimash was the 'guest' in 2017. He returned to the show in 2018, but not as a competitor - he presented only one song, 'Hello.' Dimash didn't win in 2017. Why he did not isn't entirely clear to me. I've read several comments on other reaction channels which suggest that he stepped aside to allow a Chinese singer to take top honors; others have suggested that the show would only allow a Chinese singer to win. Regardless, Dimash's showing in 2017 in China marked his transition from a regional star to a world-wide star. His performances, especially 'SOS' and 'Opera 2,' went viral. The Chinese Communist Party heaped other honors on him, notably 'Honorary Belt and Road Initiative Ambassador.' Kazakhstan is a participant in the initiative, which seeks to improve trade infrastructure in Asia by expanding road networks and ports. The song 'Opera 2' was written and first performed by Russian pop singer Vitas. Dimash is singing in the 2017 Singer competition in China. I believe there were about 14 episodes and they can be found on KZread. The other competitors were all first class and the whole series is well worth seeing. There was a great camaraderie among the contestants and Dimash became great friends with several of them, especially Terry Lin. Sandy ham, the eventual winner, and Lion Band, who were third behind Dimash, are well worth checking out. All the best, Peter.

His Dad flew up to support Dimash and stayed hidden in the audience until the end of the song. You can see exactly when he spots his dad. The emotional reunion between Dimash and his dad was shown in The Singer video. It was priceless. Dimash later said he would have performed a little differently if he knew his Dad was in the audience. LOL

Dimash was home sick and the programme’s organisers brought his dad who others have mentioned. He did say he was worried his dad thought he was too over the top in this one sp yes please watch a version you see that in as its not only his mum he honours and shows love to 💜🥰

Love Dimash and all that he does. While this is not one of my favorite songs, I can apricate the work and performance he put in to every performance. The emotion and passion he gives us transports us and off we go on a Dimash journey. Love the joy and reaction the music and Dimash gives you as he gives to us all. This song was written for/by Vitas.His attorneys contacted Dimash after this and instructed him to never sing this song again in public!!! I wonder why 😆 🤣. Peace and love from Pennsylvania USA.

I just watched Vitas perform this from 2009 or so. Dimash may have sung technically better and higher notes, but Vitas's theatrically on this song was way beyond Dimash. Dimash is Dimash and Vitas is Vitas. Whole different, and incomparable, vibe.

@@boydmccollum692 well said. Of course I like Dimash’s version (I prefer Dimash as an artist, but that’s me!), but Vitas has a very theatrical vein to his performance. I like the more flirtatious approach that Dimash took with Opera 2. Vitas seems to have more swagger perhaps? I’m not sure what it is that makes me like Dimash more except perhaps his personality? I’m surprised no one has given Aymoonchild the background on The Singer show from 2017 since there are so many great performances from that show and so many of us began our journeys with Dimash watching different songs from that series in 2017. Your very right to highlight that Vitas deserves credit though too. Without the original, we would not have Dimash’s version. Cheers!

@@carlodippolito3810 I'm not a Vitas fan, I don't follow him, but Vitas's theatricality with Opera 2 is definitely beyond Dimash's on the Singer. There's a different vibe to them. Don't forget, Dimash is only 22-23 here. And I'm talking about artistic interpretation, not anything about who's the more accomplished singer.

Hi Amy, Great reaction, This was Ep2 of 'Singer' 2017 a Chinese singing comp usually featuring only professional / established Chinese artists. Dimash was invited as the wildcard by the shows researchers following his success in his own country, there are 14 episodes (Dimash wasnt in ep11 as he was already through). The longer version that shows his dad surprising him at the end of his performance can be found on YT if you search 'Dimash - Singer 2017 Opera 2 - not knowing his dad is in audience' take a look its lovely. 👍👍😊

This song is very famous in Russia and China. The original singer change twice high. It is the second performance in China. Nobody knew for sure if he would be able to sing it. So everybody in the audience was excited to watch. He changed four times high... 😊😁

Love your reaction. Totally agree with everything you say. I so love this guy. He gives much such pure joy and happiness. You definitely need to watch the full version with English subtitles when he doesn’t know his dad is there and watch to the end. You think you are in love with him now?? That will increase your love and respect 10 fold. Also, for your own pleasure watch some of his interviews. He played with the audience because he knew that they were familiar with Vita’s version and he knew he was going to blow Vita’s out of the water. So even though it was originally a sad song this is one time he didn’t really take any notice of the lyrics, just had fun. He said if he had known his dad was there he would not have been so cheeky.

Эту песню в 90-х годах написал российский певец Витас... он довольно известен в мире, но в Китае он кумир миллионов... Ему там есть и памятник и другие отличия... Эта песня его визитная карточка... И. конечно, Димаш знал о любви китайцев к этой песне... Отсюда и его загадочный и лукавый вид... Он как бы дразнит публику... Ну а встреча с отцом в конце - это кульминация... Он уже довольно долго жил там один, без языка(хотя у него был переводчик). но это все таки не то...Очень скучал по дому и даже просился забрать его домой... ему же было всего 22 года, в принципе еще ребенок... И тут он увидел отца... Это, как отдельная песня...
