    I remember listening over and over again to this album the night I waited to see if I would be drafted to go to Vietnam with 2 friends. I was lucky they weren’t, they both died there. This music hits me in my soul every time. See you soon my friends

    This is known as "swamp rock" of which Creedence was king. another example would be Run through The Jungle and their version of I Heard It From the Grapevine-also Green River and Midnight Special. However my favorite CCR songs are Ramble Tamble and Lookin Out My Back Door.

    My nephew is now 18. He says he was cheated out of good music growing up. He prefers the music my sister and I grew up with in the 70s - late 80s. Got him a kick ass turntable and he much prefers that to digital. We meet at the local used record store now and walk out with a stack of good stuff. Last one was Steely Dan Aja - perfect condition!

    Been a huge fan since 68 when Suzie Q hit the charts. John Fogerty is one of the greatest singers ever and a darn good guitar player he's underated in that aspect. Had at least a dozen great songs. My favorites are I put a Spell on You and The Night Time is the Right Time. Their in Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and sure deserve to be.

    John Fogerty's voice is up front, in your face, clear, powerful and soulful placing you right smack in the middle of the bayou. This is my favorite John Fogerty song....... either solo or with Credence. Saw him in 86 at Mud Island in Memphis TN when he emerged from his hiatus and again about 6-8 years ago in Virginia Beach. CCR was inducted into the RRHOF in 1993, but John Fogerty refused to perform with the other band members that day bc of infighting. A long court case followed after their breakup for the rights to play the CCR songs after the bands breakup in 1972. John Fogerty continues to tour today and does continue to play the old CCR songs in addition to his work as a solo artist.

    CCR is definitely one of the greatest bands of classic rock and roll. Fun fact, they're actually from El Cerrito California, quite a few miles from the nearest bayou. John Fogerty (vocals, guitar) has said that he was just heavily influenced by the bayou style of the deep south so he incorporated it into most of their music. Check out their cover of I Put A Spell On You when you get a chance, the best version in my opinion.

    Our man is correct. Great players leave room in the mix for everyone to play and be heard. The all time greats don't over power everyone the whole time; they wait for the solo. A sure sign of a mediocre band, is when you can't pick out all the instruments, when some get lost in the mix.

    A lot of that also comes from bands or (more often) producers wanting to layer a million things into every track. This was especially big in CCR's era, when the Phil Spector "Wall of Sound" style was in fashion. But not these guys. Lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass, drums, hand percussion. One vocal track. Keep it simple!

  • @Tijuanabill

    @Tijuanabill

    @@kylesage-clontz We can probably blame Spector, to some degree. Not because he did it badly, but because everyone trying to copy him did it badly. You are also right these guys did so much, with so much less than other bands of the era. How many dudes did the Doobie Brothers have up there? I'm not sure some of those weren't Doobie Cousins. =p

Try listening to CCR's version first (kzread.info/dash/bejne/ipqtp9KmgbCdkto.html), and then see how Tina and Ike Turner improved it (kzread.info/dash/bejne/mq6F0LKzZrfWd8Y.html). Other John Fogerty / CCR songs to check out: "Lookin' Out My Backdoor" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/c5WZwbSBgtPagso.html), "Lodi" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/emeDrJJscqipcrg.html), "Who'll Stop the Rain" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/nn2Ew9Bmoqi3eqQ.html), and CCR's version of "Heard it Through the Grapevine" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/qXd3yMVrpqTbdLg.html).
