To "encourage" another is, literally, to "give courage" to that person. Charlotte's encouragement became Jonathan's courage (or at least, unleashed the latent courage he already possessed down deep, like a sleeping dragon in its lair). If it had not been for Charlotte, the world might never have known one of the greatest tenors (and one of the nicest human beings) of all time!

  • @heidiv5488

I think he's the best tenor in the world now. You should watch him singing Nessun Dorma in his living room. Incredibly good. Also, they sing this song for the finals or semi-finals (can't remember which) and the improvement is astounding. Not only does Charlotte sound 1000% better, but Jonathan both sounds and looks great.

Johnathan has taken up the mantle since the legendary Luciano Pavarotti left this world in 2007. So heartwarming to see younger generation of singers come up behind the all time best opera stars of yesteryears. There are still a few alive today, but at least we have people like Johnathan who continue to carry that torch, in honor of those great ones that are no longer here.

One of my all time favorite auditions from any show, any country, any year. Simon is blunt, but honest. Charlotte is amazing and an outstanding singer, more pop than opera. Jonathan is now one of the best tenors in the world and Simon saw his amazing raw talent. I love his reaction to Simon's suggestion he might go farther in the competition if they split. It seemed a perfect response after Charlotte had been his ally and friend for years. ❤❤❤❤

When Simon does eat his words, he usually has a way of soft-pedaling it and pretending that he's not. Such as with Susan Boyle. If you watch the semi-final vid for Jonathan and Charlotte, the arrangement and sound mix is better and you can actually hear her voice. And Simon does admit that he was wrong and didn't understand the duo dynamic. He ended up producing them. They've recorded together and separately. Jonathan would tend to drown anybody out, but Charlotte sounds very good on the studio mix of The Prayer.

Charlotte sounded much better in the semi final and final and they should have won the contest but as some has already said, they lost out to a clever well trained dog, ridiculous in my opinion. One of my favourites of Jonathan is “Empty chairs at empty tables” from Les Miserables, with a world class cellist accompanying him (sorry I can’t remember her name). Johnathan sings like an angel. He he has a big heart and truyly loves everyone of his fans as much as they love him .Though its true Charlotte helped his confidence to go Bgt. I believe if Charlotte went on solo she may have stayed but if it weren't for Jonathan, she wouldn't of got far either. They were friends who helped each other. They were offered their own contract because they went as far as they could as a duel for what each wanted to do. I dont understand why people think one dumped the other . Alot of group disband and go solo to do their own things.

I thought I should comment on Charlotte and Jonathan. Jonathan has become quite successful and travels the world singing. Charlotte of course was devastated by the split but holds no ill-will towards Jonathan. It was easy to see who the talent was. Charlotte did get better over their tenure together, but the split was inevitable unless they got married and I don't think that was ever an option. That's all I know about that. Until the next time.

One thing to remember is this a show curated for entertainment. The producers know who has talent and who doesn't. So it is likely before Jonathan and Charlotte walked on the stage, they had subjected the judges and audience to some fairly delusional and talentless performances. The clue for the judges here was when Charlotte told them it was their singing teacher's idea they sing together. This let the judges know they were trained and possibly had classical training. It also told the judges a professional thought they sounded good together, that it wasn't just family and friends It is always worthwhile listening to the answers. Had Simon done so, he could have asked about their training, and he would not have looked like such a twat.
