I don't really watch the music videos with these! I just add that there to give you guys something to look at. I like experiencing music for the first time with no visuals so that I'm not swayed. I'd keep to this strategy as a lot of music videos will get copyright hits. That said, for bands like Linkin Park, System of a Down, Disturbed, and Rage Against the Machine, go watch the music video after reacting if you don't already. Some songs, like Flobots "Handlebars" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/eoCJupKyZKjWpKQ.html) and anything by Sabaton, where the music video enhances the experience two, three, or even five times.

Their most recognizable song is "Under The Bridge", and absolutely worth a listen!

The full line is "Born and raised by those who praise control of population - Well, everybody's been there and I don't mean on vacation." Basically means we can all relate to our previous generation holding some fucked up views, and us trying to grow beyond that and live better lives than them.

The writers of the show Californication, as well as its central characters *love* rock music, so the name for the show 100% comes from this song, and is also incredibly appropriate for its premise.

this song got a special place in my heart cuz when i was 14 that guitar solo made me go "fuck it, how difficult can that be?" and learn guitar lol. 10 years later im still playing constantly and creating music 🥰

The lyric about the sun having its final resting place here also alludes to the mystery of it - come up here to the Emerald Triangle and smoke enough Humboldt weed and it'll all click into place 😂

That's what I always thought this line meant, although not so much California as the idea of it that Hollywood sells, i.e. "Cali-fornication". In Hotel California, even tho they never really answered it, it felt more like a metaphor for addiction. "You can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave" feels like "once an addict, always an addict".

Another avenue that will surprise you lyrically is Black Sabbath War Pigs and Ozzy Osbourne Crazy Train. Deep lyrics that you wouldn't expect from a headbanger.

A lot of those early groups had a heavy blues influence--Sabbath is one and Led Zeppelin is another example.

"Everybody's been there and I don't mean no vacation" refers to California's massive influence on media (tv, movies, etc) to the point where everybody feels like they've been to California, even if you've never visited the state.

This is the first reaction channel I have discovered in it’s freshman state (with the rock stuff I mean) and I love it. If you want some more to react to that is not overly hard and metal you should check out some ”white boy” blues bands from the 70’s. A lot in common with the old school soul and Rn’B. If you want more Red Hot Chili Peppers I suggest you check out older stuff that is funky rap rock. Give It Away is one of their biggest hits and it’s an amaaazing song!

The best thing about playing in a band is that you play live instruments with your friends. It's that we can create the song together but never alone that's a part of the magic. Especially playing in front of a crowd where everyone needs to be on point. When it comes together and the crowd is dancing there isn't a better feeling in the world

Honestly, RHCP has one of the most extensive catalogs of really good songs spanning 30+ years... Since you live in L.A., it's a bit cliché but you should give "Under the Bridge" a try if you have not already..

As much as you love the good live performance aspect, you've got to watch While My Guitar Gently Weeps with Prince on guitar. He goes so unbelievably crazy on stage with some absolute legends, you'll love it!

awww baby flea in that video. I have gone to see them over a dozen times, they always throw the best concerts. The last time I saw them flea took stage with his daughter for a duet, her on sax and him on piano.

The Chili Peppers did a cover of Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground, and you should absolutely check it out. The way Flea slaps the bass on that song is just out of this world.

The phrase 'being Californicated' has been around since the mid-70s or a bit earlier. RHCP did make Californicated/tion a more mainstream term, followed by the series. I remember wearing buttons on my denim jacket (in 1976) saying stuff like "Don't Californicate in public" - bought at Spenser's Gifts, so not a mom-n-pop outfit. All respect to RHCP for their excellent use of sarcasm and irony to deliver their messages to the masses (even if half or more don't understand what they're hearing).

Im Eclectic when it comes to music, 55 yo NY Rican that grew up in NYC during the MTV generation. This is when Rap and Rock merged to give us many fusion sound we here today. Californication is a TV trope term more commonly known as "Hollywood Provincialism." It's the reason why a show based in one location will have things called by terms not commonly used in that area, but that are used in California. Like a show based in New Mexico calling the Motor Vehicle Department the DMV, when it's the MVD out there.

Rock and roll has diverse roots. Rock and roll evolved mainly from jump blues but also country, folk, doowop, gospel and classic, swing jazz. Naturally some artists would emphasize some of these kinds of music and de-emphasize others leading to a noticeable difference in the sound of their music. the genre encompasses a lot over the last 70 years of music! Thousands of sub genres of rock………

Try pixies! A weird band to be sure, lirics and soundwise, but so much influential and creative. "This monkey's gone to heaven" is a classic, but there are so much more, like "Caribou" or "Gigantic", or "Cactus". They are known for changing from slow and calm to hard and loud all the time.

Peppers catalogue of Top-Notch Bangers is Vast: Otherside.. Scar Tissue.. Soul To Squeeze.. "Stadium Aracadium- whole album!!.. but have fun with this great band!!

It was were almost every film and commercial we have all watched comes from. We have all been there, either thru a Gushers fruit snacks commercial full of Rodeo Boulevard palm trees, or the latest star in the sidewalk being revealed on the nightly news... and we all wanted a piece of that for ourselves, selling out to the Californication of society.

You've probably heard it, but " locomotive breath" by Jethro Tull was a song WAY ahead of it's time.

This song is how the term "Californication" was made famous and the show ran with it.

"Everybodys been here and I don't mean on vacation" means that hollywood exports culture to the entire world. It has deeper meaning, this entire sing is a criticism of that culture.

"Knock Me Down" is very old school Chili Peppers before they really blew up in the mainstream. Funky, catchy and rocking all at once. One of their best ever. Check it out.

This is what the internet should be: people sharing all the magic we can create and appreciating how incredibly diverse influences and ideas work together. What would you suggest a white guy to check out? I've been stuck in this bubble too long and don't know where to even begin looking (symphonic prog rock/metal is my jam, but blues gets me deep in my soul as well for example)

Man like what you said back in the day people were so mad that Elvis was bringing black culture to the white youth and a White southerner at that. They didn't care he was stealing it for lack of a better word and they couldn't just call him out on that so they called it vulgar and too sexual lol I wish he had given more credit for it but hey it slowly brought people closer together at least.

Under the bridge - one of the greatest pieces of music ever created

I've been going to concerts since I was a teenager and I listen to a wide variety of music . Believe it or not, one of the most musically talented bands I've ever seen was ZZ Top. I wasn't even there to see them but when I left, that's all I could talk about. There's no words to even describe how fucking awesome they were. Their videos don't do them justice, and they have so many good songs that I didn't even know were their songs.

JoAnn AKI am a huge fan and know everything about rhcp. It is absolutely not true that many songs are inspired by drug abuse. Only Under The Bridge talks about addiction and rebirth. However it would be Kiedis not Keidas 😊

This song is about the positives and negatives of California culture. "Everybody's been there" means everyone's been influenced in some way by California culture with Hollywood for example.

This has a lot of memories attached. It was the only RHCP my ex had on that CD she burned "for us" there's no hard feelings, but I still think about her.
