I love this song so much. Suga wrote this for those who are starting out. When BTS started becoming popular and going global, the members did not have anyone with that experience to guide or encourage them. These are the words that he wished someone had said to him.

Thank you for the reaction to my favorite Agust D song. The elder gentleman in the video is Ryuichi Sakamoto. He is a famous Oscar winning composer for the movie "The Last Emperor" (1987). The movie won Best Picture, and Ryuichi won for Best Score for a Picture. It had always been a dream of SUGA's to work with Ryuichi. What a blessing. Unfortunately, Ryuichi passed away in March of last year, just a month before the song was released. 💜

The rap line is really the core of BTS who were originally supposed to be a hip hop group. Back in their trainee days they spent a lot of time writing and producing songs and working extremely hard for their dreams so yes, I think that’s where a lot of the theme of loneliness comes from. They were children away from their families for extended periods of time. Once they achieved fame and recognition I think that loneliness is still there sometimes because of the pressure of having so many people to please. Suga saying to just rest sometimes is so healing and I really hope he takes his own advice.

One of my favorite AgustD songs. I don’t think people understand how hard BTS had to struggle and work to get where they are. They were incredibly lonely at the top. BTS has always operated outside the Kpop industry. First because they were from a small, powerless company, and then once they started getting success, people avoided them out of jealousy. He wrote this song to the idols and trainees coming up behind BTS. He wants to give them the comfort he never got. Not sure if you are aware, but he also has a talk show on KZread where he interviews other idols and celebrities. It’s called Suchwita. He is also currently studying to become a licensed therapist. He hopes to be able to help other idols in the industry. He has the biggest heart.

I love this song. The gorgeous piano is being played by Ryuichi Sakamoto, who is some Suga idolized. You see hime meet him while making the album. He passed away March 2023. You see him meeting him in the Road To D-Day documentary. Woosung I wasn't familiar with, but what a vocal. The lyrics are so powerful and caring. Rest, everything will be okay His concert was so good, the whole stadium singing along, you felt like you met the real Min Yoongi, not just his persona as AgustD or Suga. I am not a huge rap fan, but BTS's whole rap line, put so much reality into their lyrics, that I truly enjoy their solo music as well as the BTS songs.

I'm glad you like this song: ) It's a song of encouragement and comfort from Suga to juniors who are walking the path of music like him. BTS lyrics always contain their own stories and inspire those who listen to them. I recommend Suga's 'The Last' to you. Since this song doesn't have an official music video, it would be good to watch to the lyrics video provided by the "Dial 6137" channel. ("I recommend using "Dial 6137" channel for songs without official music videos. From a native Korean perspective, the translations from this channel are considered very accurate.) And I strongly recommend 'Wild Flower' by the leader, RM (this song has an official music video). It's a masterpiece with deep lyrics, beautiful melody, and visuals all together.

The thing with this song is that while Suga wrote it for his struggling juniors, it resonates with anyone struggling to succeed and complete their dream(s). Everyone doesn't have their dreams met instantly or without going through hardship(s) at one point or another! Ryuichi Sakamoto piano composition was just beautiful, as was WooSung's hook! This was our Min Yoongi at his heartbreakingly best!

Please let the videos play all the way to the end. At the end of this song it had "In loving memory of Ryuichi Sakamoto 1952-2023" i don't know if you recognize that name but I would strongly suggest to google his name and realize why he was such a big deal to have him in his music video (he's the old white hair gentleman). Thank you.

Suga had the pleasure of meeting him and bowing to him. It's great to be able to compose together with someone who was already your idol. Shortly after, Sakamoto died, but even though he was ill, he agreed to welcome Suga and participate in his music.

In the beginning, they were all young and homesick. They came from different Provinces all over Korea, so they all had to move away from home to become BTS members. But I know they've spoken a lot about how their fame brought loneliness. For one, it's not easy to trust people- you just don't know who is using you and who will betray you for a little bit of your limelight. RM even had a Monk, an actual freaking Monk, go behind his back and talk to the press. Suga (Agust D) wrote a song called, "Dear my friend" where he addresses a friend he loved deeply and was very close with, but the more famous he got, the more they drifted apart and the friend started to resent him. Jin spoke on a youtube talk show about how they don't have many friend who are even other celebrities because they're intimated by the level of fame BTS has. They have been through so many hardships as a group on top of their own personal struggles- they luckily have each other. The 7 of them are family. But from the very beginning it has been BTS and ARMY against the world. Their own music industry tried to sabotage them, or take credit for their work. They'd pay to have them mistreated on shows and have horrible news articles written about them. Even the SK media suppresses news about BTS to this day. You wouldn't believe all that we've been through in just the 11 years since their debut. It's also another reason BTS and ARMY are as close as we are. Because even though we, as fans, obviously don't know everything that goes on... We always rise to the occasion when we can do something. We have their backs as much as we can, and they do the same as much as they can. It's really beautiful.

BTS is your ultimate rags to riches story. They've definitely had it rough and then some. But throughout it all they've always remained very generous, charitable and humble, even now that they're at the top, and they've not been afraid to let us in on their dark thoughts either, be it through their music or in person. I honestly have an unlimited amount of respect for these seven amazing young men. (Btw, always let the video run it's course completely with BTS. They're known for putting important points at the very end of the video. In this case you missed the 'in memory of' part - Sakamoto passed away between him working on the song and the release.) 💜

Thanks for your reactions! This is my fave track in his DDAY album. Don’t forget… it’s a very lonely path being on top.. not only they struggle going up there and I can imagine it’s lonely when they get there, I can’t imagine what they’re dealing with. Good things there are 7 of them together.. I’m sure while it’s lonely, it helps having them together to help each other.

True. RM’s song “Lonely” comes to mind. It’s one of my favorites from Indigo, but the line “Somebody call me” gets me every time. I get the sense that (like me) he’s the type who doesn’t want to “be a burden” & therefore has a hard time reaching out first when he’s the one needing comfort/companionship.

It’s his song means so much to so many of us. Comforting us. BTS was mostly working class kids who worked very hard. Suga and Taehyung came from the most humble families but Jhopes mom had to take a second job to afford dance lessons. Jimins family was modest but solid middle class. Jungkook was always sending money home (they all did) and we know because of time/money he went over a year between seeing his family when young. RMs father was successful middle to upper middle class and Jin’s family was the only one closer to upper class.

As I understand it, only one of them (the oldest, Jin) grew up in a relatively well-off environment. Still, he came to live in the dorm with the rest of the boys. He used what “privilege” he had to everyone’s benefit, like buying/cooking food for them and driving the youngest ones to school. I think Suga/Agust D and V had the least privileged upbringings, V’s parents were farmers and Suga’s mom had heart problems. There’s a clip where he shared that as a teen when he was producing beats for others to earn money he sometimes got ripped off and often if he ate he wouldn’t have enough to take the bus home. His parents were initially opposed to him pursuing music rather than a stable job/career. But regardless of their individual situations, collectively they were about as “rags” as an idol group could be. Their agency was tiny and at least once on the verge of bankruptcy. Most in the entertainment industry wouldn’t give them the time of day. Many simply didn’t see the point, expecting them to wash out. Then they shot to the very top and kept rising, and their company became a conglomerate larger than the next “big 3” Korean entertainment companies combined. That has brought up its own type of isolation because no one can truly relate to their experience. You are right, the rappers in particular do bring the subject of loneliness a lot, particularly Suga & RM. Besides the more typical homesickness kind, and the pandemic-generated one all members experienced, they experienced the underground rap community they had belonged to turning their backs on them for choosing to be idols and the idol industry’s lack of support or outright rejection because they didn’t fit the established “beauty standards” for idols. They have also touched on the rarer “heavy is the crown” and “it’s lonely at the top” brands of loneliness.

He did came from a modest family, they each had different circumstances, not all that modest. But it's more about the creative process, about finding your way... That can be lonely even with a group of friends around you. And about the industry, of the competition and envy in it Tha make you feel alone, so you have to find your people.. And he wanted to tell young artists that they can count on him.

Thanks for your reaction. I like this song very much As for what you're saying... BTS has been the group that has worked the hardest in the entire history of Kpop and I'm not saying this because I'm an Army, this is fact... on average since their debut they have released 2 to 3 albums per year and 95% of the lyrics have been writteb by the group's rap line and for some songs the vocal line as well... In addition to the variety/entertainment shows that they have also recorded over the years and their live performances and concerts They worked a lot to achieve the position they have now because they were the underdogs of Kpop for several years as they did not belong to one of the 3 main companies in the Korean Kpop industry and therefore they did not have enough promotion within the Korean media... so BTS was the pioneer group in releasing their own vlogs and entertainment programs on KZread to be able to make themselves known to their fans... So even though the media closed their doors for them in Korea... that was what made them go global... having to reinvent the way Kpop groups were promoted at the time and their popularity gradually grew around the world The group was on the verge of dissolving in 2018 because they were exhausted, on the verge of burn out, they talked about it, meditated on it and decided to stay together... I think they spoke with the company and negotiated the workload they had, but still So they continued working intensely, although a little less than before, but if you look, during the pandemic... the entertainment industry was almost paralyzed... and who was working? BTS... they released an album, they did online concerts and several variety shows... it was a time of global growth for them (it was the time when I met them)... so this song is a reminder for themselves, It's okay to stop and rest once in a while.. and they kind of did before going to the military but ... 3 BTS members left albums ready to go on sale during their military service (those same members had already released a solo album respectively in 2022 and 2023) Regards from Mexico

It really was an underdog, rags to riches come up. That is why some members still did things as if they are still poor for a long time after. Like JK taking food and personal products from the hotel rooms when they were on the road. BTS went from wearing knock offs in the early videos to becoming brand ambassadors. My family was stationed Korea in the 90s and at that time, Korea was famous for fake products. 😊 It is pretty cool to see the well documented growth of BTS. 7:44 they live a very miserable life, they've been treated as dirt from the start by people from the industry simply because they came from poor backgrounds. All BTS members are also from country side, so they're country bumpkins and their from working class families. BTS are also not from any of the top agency, they came from a very very small company near bankruptcy. In South Korea they have very strict heiriachy especially in social class. Kpop Groups from big labels all have the advantages from news, promoters, media, industry, etc. They get more screen time, more positive reviews, articles, etc. While BTS, were constantly cut from broadcast, not being invited in award shows, get ridiculed in variety shows, etc. And the k media also downplays all their achievements. That's why South Korean people doesn't know much about BTS, all theu know is taht BTS is just a kpop group popular overseas and that's it. Regular folks don't even know all of their names. There was even Koreans who thought BTS were not purely Koreans and they automatically assume BTS is from the big most influential labels that's why they're popular. 🙃
