Just a bit of 411 on this. When Marley says “I’m on the Rock…”, he’s talking about Jamaica, which is often referred to as a “Rock” because of it’s topography. It’s the reason why Damian Marley says “Welcome To Jamrock” as the title of his song, Jamrock is Jamaica. There was an attempt on his life, during a time of a lot of political violence and chaos, and he spent a brief time in exile in London, which is why he mentioned having to “run like a fugitive, to save the life I live”. The beauty of reggae music is an artist can be talking about suffering and difficulties in life and express it in the most beautiful and uplifting way. I believe that his Iron, Lion Zion referred to his return to Jamaica with resilience. I remember when this song was released in the early 90s like a newly discovered gem. Everybody was happy because it really did feel like Marley had returned in some small way. The tone of the song is utterly triumphant. Peace.

All songs from the Rainbow 77’ live track
This was an incomplete Bob Marley track, which was originally written by the reggae legend in 1973 or 74. Ten years after Marley's death, it was completed and released. According to Mojo magazine, Island Records' Trevor Wyatt only discovered Marley's original song by chance, when he left a rehearsal cassette running while he was pouring himself a glass of water. The song's lyrics concern Marley's Rastafarian beliefs, coupled with an anti-violence message. Zion is "the promised land," which for Rastafarians is the African country of Ethiopia. The lion refers to the Lion of Judah, which appears on the Ethiopian flag and represents Haile Selassie I, the former Ethiopian emperor that Rastas regard as their Messiah.

It was most likely written in 1974 as that is the year the I-Threes Joined the band, or it was written before that and they added the vocals later on, and the extra instruments that may or may not have been there in the unfinished version.

In the Holy Bible the lion of Judah is Jesus christ
Zion is "the promised land", in the song referring to Ethiopia. The lion refers to the Lion of Judah, which appeared on the old royal Ethiopian flag, and represents Haile Selassie, the former Ethiopian emperor whom Rastafarians regard as their Messiah. The iron means being strong .
Anything By Bob, Can't go Wrong.
Asia & BJ, you’ll love his "Could You Be Loved", “Buffalo Soldier” and “Three Little Birds”!!! Iron Lion Zion was recorded in 1973 or 74, but released in 1992, 11 years after Bob's death.
Yall could literally do a whole deep dive show into his music and NOT be disappointed the man was a prophet a musical genius and a like many of his caliber a other worldly being that walked among men
Robert Nesta Marley is a prophet Much respect one love!
His acoustic version of Redemption Song is such a beautiful and moving song. We lost a great one when we lost Bob.
My husband actually partied with Bob and his band members way back in the day at Stonybrook University on Long Island NY He was a teen but those memories will never leave him. Amazing talent. He went to quite a few Marley concerts. Lucky him. ( I wasn’t in the picture than lol) Great reaction.
Underrated Bob Marley song. My favourite of his.
Before I would play a game of Rugby whether it was for my club or province, this was what hyped me up before the game. This would always be playing in my earphones while I was warming up. I would always envision myself being as strong as Iron, intimidating as a Lion while running towards the promised land of Zion (Finals) 😂 Krak-up. As far as the meaning of the song goes, it is spiritually deep and was one of those Bob songs that was open to interpretation and whatever you thought it meant for you, is what it would be. Awesome reaction asia and BJ ❤
All of Bob's music had a good feel to it. Always puts a smile on my face. Love Bob Marley.
Just my 2 cents that I get from this, that he is talking about his spirit being immortal and strong and he is running in this world like a fugitive never forgetting who he really is like iron like a lion in zion ...

Reggae was only played in West Indian clubs in England and then Bob hit the scene and boom "Exodus" was the first big one then they just flowed

Thanks for subbing!
I was big on Marley back in college. Still enjoy him while sitting by the pool.
Yes thank you for reacting to something different from Bob he has so much to listen to but everyone does the same thing so I appreciate you doing this song yes it's very powerful..
And let us not forget he was a man of peace and hated violence
I was singing this song in my head for a minute yesterday.
Nice. Thanks. Definitely more commercial sounding than Their earlier Roots Music. The Album’s Burnin’, Natty Dread, and, Rastaman Vibration are EXCELLENT examples of Roots Reggae by Bob Marley & The Wailers.
I heard this for the first time when it was released in the UK in the early 90’s when I was a young boy…. One of the power fullest songs I’ve ever heard. Still get the chills listening 30 some odd years later.
Awesome video you too and great song choice. I love me some Marley. I believe Bob is talking about his own life. He once got shot up in his own home in Jamaica during a revolutionary War. He actually performed a concert in Jamaica to unite both parties. I believe that's why he is saying "he's on the run" ... like getting out of town, or laying low? On a side note, check out Damian Marley songs. Everybody What's To Be Somebody, Speak Life, Slave Mill, and Caution ⚠️ just to name a few.
One of my friends made me a Bob Marley mix CD, this song was the first track and “Could You Be Loved” was the next track. It sounded so good.
Please !!! react to more Bob Marley songs hes one of my favourite reggae artist ever 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲

More Bob Marley, please!
The song's lyrics are directly related to Rastafarian beliefs. Zion is "the promised land", in the song referring to Ethiopia. The lion refers to the Lion of Judah, which appeared on the old royal Ethiopian flag, and represents Haile Selassie I, the former Ethiopian emperor whom Rastafarians regard as their Messiah.
Great song
The lion refers to the Lion of Judah, which appeared on the old royal Ethiopian flag, and represents Haile Selassie, the former Ethiopian emperor whom.
Reggae and reggaeton is sooooo different
I can't lie listening to this really make me want to book a flight back home to Barbados because NY is way too hot & humid right now lol and "Iron Lion Zion" represents the 12 tribes of Judah the conquering lion and Rastas are the true children of Israel so dreadlocks are not just a hair style it represents that and Judaism of Ethiopia where that faith originated.
If I had Dreads I'd Shake'em.🇯🇲 Zion is the hill of Jerusalem where the city of David was built. Rasta it's a place of peace ✌
Love ya guys. Just an FYI: reggae is not reggaeton, the latter being a derivative of reggae. I think Bob Marley is reggae or roots and some dance hall.
The live video of this song is something else! Please react to the video of "Could You Be Loved". Great reaction as always fam!
You were write, Strong like a Lion in Heaven. Zion is Heaven
It means be strong in life always, no matter what....
This song is about Emperor Haile Selassie’s forced exile from Ethiopia by Italy during WW2

A slave running back to africa, Ethiopia today to live out as a christian in the shadow of the first african apostle he was a true man of goodness
This is Gospel Music. Iron Lion Zion is a very Spiritual thing. Bob is trying to introduce us to The Messiah through music. Bob is always talking about The Conquering Lion for the Tribe of Judah, which is Yeshua (Jesus). Bob was always talking about the Book of Revelation, which was dictated to the Apostle John by The Messiah. Bob was considered by many to be a Prophet and/or a messenger, and used his music as his weapon. "One good thing about music is when it hits you feel no pain."
Hi ,i'm CostaRican i like your videos, please watch high tide or low tide to Bob Marley
A lot of people don’t know that Bob’s Dad was white. In fact, there is a large population of Irish in Jamaica. The union between these two people gave us a worldwide treasure known as Bob Marley. It’s all love.

@@pauldavis7362 Where did I say it was hidden knowledge? Most ppl assume when first exposed to him or his music, that he is purely Jamaican.
I think he’s saying I have to be strong , remember he was shot in an attempted assassination, because of his political support for a Jamaican politician.
Being from England and more precisely from London, we’ve heard all Bob Marley songs many times. I guess maybe there is a more Jamaican / Caribbean heritage over hear. Probably got to do with being part of the British commonwealth
This brother get right the Bob Marley One Love movie explain it.

Wait wait wait , first time !!!!! Nooooo ......come on man!!!! What about zion train?
Lion of Judah, it is biblical
Marley tried to stay out of politics but after calling for a stop to the political violence in late 1970s in Jamaica he was seen to have made a political stance , no doubt he was seen as potential unifying force that could not be tolerated by a corrupt and crime ridden system where drug cartels owned politicians the police and gang war fair was rife . Just like MLK Marley was seen as a unifying threat by a corrupt system .
Bob marely told the truth so the system and they were after him because of that basically. You tell the truth then you get silenced. You got to listen to his songs
I love all your reactions 🍿👀👀 Can you react to "El Pinche Oso - Enchalequence" please? Amo sus reacciones, me encantaría que pudieran reaccionar :)))
