The foundation for heavy music..without these guys you might not have Metallica, Pantera and dozens of other bands..Sabbath set the standard and the music is just as relevant 50 years later 🤘🤘🤘

There's two Black Sabbath, Ozzy Frontman (shown in this video) and Dio as Frontman. Speaking of Dio, the great godfather of metal, he's got a bunch of tracks you should listen to. -Losing my Insanity. -Rainbow in the Dark. -Man on the silver mountain. -Holy Diver. Ozzy Osbourne also has tracks: -Gets me through. -Bark at the moon. -No more tears. -Mr. Crowley. Also check out Deep Purple. Also from that era. -Burn. -Highway Star. -Hush. -My woman from Tokyo. And that's literally 12 songs for you to check out on your own time. Enjoy.

In 1969, Led Zeppelin was the band that changed rock music forever by redefining the term 'heavy rock'... Their 1st two albums ('Led Zeppelin' and 'Led Zeppelin II') became the catalysts of amping up rock n' roll... Led Zeppelin exploded in popularity in '69 and fans heard the record and fans went, "Wow! I can't believe how heavy they can be with guitars, bass and drums... I can't believe their singer can sing so high!" Black Sabbath were one of those bands in Birmingham, UK that heard Led Zeppelin's music in 1969 (As did another established band, Deep Purple, based in London) and wanted to go in that 'heavy rock' direction musically... But Black Sabbath went a step further... They said, "Let's scare everybody..." The concept was like horror movies - people would pay to see them and be terrified... Maybe Black Sabbath could do the sonic version. One of the songs they came up w/ was called 'Black Sabbath' (after a 1940's horror movie) ...Guitarist Tony Iommi came up w/ an ominous riff that sounded like a horror movie soundtrack and the band (drummer Bill Ward, bassist Geezer Butler and vocalist Ozzy Osbourne) joined in... Geezer wrote the lyrics about a nightmare he had... Ozzy sang it like he was mourning at a funeral ... It was instant - there was nothing that sounded like 'Black Sabbath'... it also became the band's name. Black Sabbath released their first album 'Black Sabbath' in early 1970... the dark, ominous album was actually heavier than Led Zeppelin and became an instant success in the UK... Sabbath recorded a 2nd album in 1970 and one of the last songs was a short, filler track that Geezer called 'Paranoid'... Ozzy sang the lyrics and they thought it was too commercial. However, their record company knew it was a hit... The label actually changed the title of the 2nd album from 'War pigs' (a term to describe the orchestrators of the ongoing Vietnam war at the time) to 'Paranoid' and it went to #1 in the UK... Black Sabbath toured the US for the first time that year and they said the tour started at a club in Philly and ended at the L.A. Forum... That was how fast Black Sabbath got famous... Their lyrics focusing on the dark side of life (Satan, drug abuse, supernatural occurrences, war, death, mental illness, etc.) made the band a target of the Christian right and religious groups. Black Sabbath were never satanists... They all wore crosses that were gifted to them as a talisman. But that fact was lost on religious purists who viewed their music as "the devil's work" (Even Led Zeppelin were accused of satanism, especially when Jimmy Page was fascinated by the work of notorious writer Aleister Crowley) But Black Sabbath set the foundations w/ their first 8 albums for what became the genre of hard rock and heavy metal... Them, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple became known as the British 'Unholy Trinity' of heavy rock music as they dominated the 70's decade. In 1980, Black Sabbath relaunched their career w/ new singer Ronnie James Dio (until 1982) after Ozzy Osbourne was fired in 1979... Ozzy went on to have an even more successful solo career in the 80's, 90's and beyond. Guitarist Tony Iommi recorded a number of albums as Black Sabbath w/ various musicians and singers ... but none were as successful as the original band. They (Ozzy/ Iommi/ Butler/ Ward) finally reunited in 1997 to tour. They recorded 1 more album "13" in 2013...but only drummer Bill Ward was not on that record or tour.

At this time they were the holy trinity of heavy rock - Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and of course Deep Purple > who have one of the most iconic riffs of all time "Smoke on the Water/ I would suggest by Deep Purple first their song "Child in Time" done live in the televisions studio 1970/71 - one of the best live performances you will see. (Of course also one of the best live performances of all time is in Montreal Canada - 1984, Queen singing "Somebody to Love" - either performance is legendary showcasing their amazing lead singers.

Birmingham and West Midlands seems to produce the best- there is no genre or scene like other cities, just the best from pop (new romantic) Duran Duran, Dexies Midnight Runners) reggae Steel Pulse, UB40, the first black artists to be played on MTV- Musical Youth, The Moody blues ( probably one of the most song songs at a karaoke 🎤Nights in White Satin etc and of course Led Zeplin ( not Birmingham but close).

02:39 You're right: they don't seem to fit the song. Unfortunately, they don't even really fit their name. The reason that's unfortunate is that a lot of people never listened to them just because their name sounds so evil. When I was younger, I wouldn't listen to Black Sabbath 'cause I am Christian and didn't like the implication of their name. A Black Sabbath is a witch's Worship service and day of celebration; therefore, I missed really getting to enjoy some of their songs. Like War Pigs, which is one that really fits what's going on today with our last several presidencies (except Mr Trump 😉) and their lust for war. Not only is the message good, the song is really great besides that. Check that one out. I really enjoy your reactions, BTW!
