I used to bartend in the French Quarter. I got off early one Afternoon, me and a few coworkers went to some bar on Bourdon that did a 3 for 1 happy hour. It was packed. After a while I requested the DJ play some Beastie Boys. Unbeknownst to me they had a new album released the day before. I didn't know this was Beastie Boys at first. The whole bar went ape shit when this song came on, I went and bought this CD the next day.

The Beastie Boys wrote and produced their own music by this time. In earlier albums, Rick Rubin was the producer. (The guy who produced Jay-Z's remake of Ice-T's "99 Problems"). The Beasties picked up a lot from working with Rick.

Their first rap album came out in 1986. The whole album was fire. One of the best hip-hop ever made. The beats. Rhyme schemes. Etc were way ahead of their time. They originated a type of style and rarely get the credit they deserve.

When rap started up it was quite innocent and respectable. Newcleus , Whodini. I'm sure there is still some now somewhere. I've caught my kids listening to a lot of audio porn and tried to correct them. But it's all about attitude nowadays. Bad attitude. No discrimination in the gangsterization of our nation. To quote myself.
