Chuck D and LL Cool J inducted them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in his speech LL credited them with his start by giving Rick Rubin his demo. They go back to the beginnings of rap/hip hop but are rarely credited for that.

They were from NYC, but not part of the Bad Boy / Death Row, East / West, scene. They're early Def Jam, and kept the 80s DJ feel alive. This track, and many of their others, has the traditional "I'm so fly" MC style. Their skills earned respect, as did their authenticity. They were three Jewish kids from Manhattan/Brooklyn who never pretended to be anything else.

I about died when you said Licensed to 3 😂. I love that they don't take themselves so seriously while taking their art very seriously. You have to do more from them. RIP MCA, my favorite beastie.

I wouldn’t say the Beastie Boys did parody. They took their craft seriously, but didn’t take themselves too seriously. That shows in their videos. They weren’t afraid to use humor in their videos. The influence of Run-DMC in the Beastie Boys is apparent.

"Fight For Your Right To Party" was a parody of frat boys but frat boys and everyone else loved the song and it was a big hit. The Beastie Boys later said it was a joke and they didn't like it.

If you truly want a great Beastie boys experience you need to go to both ends of the spectrum, I'd suggest "Paul Revere", "Gratitude", "So Whatcha want" and the legendary "3 MC's and 1 DJ" - all amazing tracks that showcase the best of the Beasties

The Beastie Boys Made their own beats, and “wrote” the music themselves, as the played instruments, previously being a punk band! When they say “producer” they mean who did the mixing, recording and balancing, etc!

That smile on your face is why the Beastie Boys are legends. That’s what they did, and still do. You physically couldn’t stop a smile when the Beastie Boys are on. Some of their stuff will make you laugh your ass off. I read an interview where one of them said they would be in the studio writing lyrics just to make the other two laugh.

Request: Beastie Boys playing "Sabotage" live on Letterman. You will not be disappointed.

The song is not a parody. This is the Beasties being the Beasties. They always had their own lane. The video is a parody of the original Japanese Godzilla type films. This is 1998. They discovered LL Cool J and brought him yo Def Jam. MCA (RIP) has the deeper raspy voice and is the one in the crazy grey wig. "I'll stir fry you in my wok!" Most of their videos are fantastic. The debut album, which has sold 10 million copies, is Licensed to ILL (not III/3). Easy mistake. Keep in mind that innthe early 1990s, they started playkng their own instruments again which led to the compilation album, "The In Sound From Way Out" which was all instrumental tracks from various albums whete they played instead of rapped. "POW!" is a stand out.

These guys are PIONEERS of hip hop. This is from 1990's. You need to go back to the beginning. You can hear the progression of Hip Hop just by listening to their albums. This isn't a parody of hip hop. This is their sound. People copy them, not the other way around...lol. Sending 💜

As others said, they are from NYC and one of the orignal founders of hip hop. So this song being released late 90s is because after east/west feud and direction rap was going with gangster, the boys wrote this love letter to the old school hip hop style.

The Beastie Boys' early 90's stuff is so complex, and so great. We would love for you to check out that stuff. Songs like, Sure Shot, So, Whatcha Want, and of course 3 MC's And 1 DJ (video). You can't go wrong. Enjoy!

The licence to ill was epic and still is had 2 monster hits fight for your right (to party) and no sleep til Brooklyn, MCA was irreplaceable like John bonum of led zepplin, a long streak of absolute bangers, sabotage is a really popular video, sure shot is like a psychedelic mind for video, as a non hip hop fan and white as they are i loved the beastie boys I discovered them in the 90s and back when you could get 12 CDs for a penny I had several others albums

The Beasties are incredibly creative and also really funny. Start back from their first hit album Licensed to Ill - then to Paul’s Boutique. They’re not mocking. This is the music they love.

This song is from their 1998 album _Hello Nasty_ . Other bangers off that album include Body Movin, and Three MC's and One DJ. The music video for the latter appears to have been done in one shot. Well, two shots really because two cameras. It includes Mix Master Mike on the turntables. If you want to hear some of the most colorful storytelling in rap listen to Paul Revere.

The B Boys here hip-hop personified, they always repped the culture and were a positive force in the culture, Adrock discovered LL Cool Jay, and produced his first single. They are OG Originators, never copy cats, they are the originators of the constant pop culture references and goofy injokes, they were the clown princes of hip hop. Also Paul's Boutique their second record Produced by the Dust Brother is a literal painting of sound, over 150-450 samples depending on how you count them, and they got sued by the Beatles over the track the Sounds of Science. They were literal pioneers of sampling technology and techniques, the record is why all the laws about samples exist now.

Beasties are among the founders of hip hop- way before Eminem. Three DJ’s and One MC will show you their pure hip hop skills. When Chuck D and LL Kool J sing your praises as major influences at the RRHOF Induction ! They gave LL his big break. ❤❤❤❤ I believe they’re from Brooklyn.

You got to understand these dudes' origins, but to try and keep it brief, they got put on by Rick Ruben who co-founded Def Jam with Russell Simmons and who Run DMC gave them the pass and blessings. They blew up, they always gave love, respect and paid homage to the originators. They always kept the Run DMC style flow with MC's finishing each other's rhymes. They are known for having FUN and not taking it so serious, and they always had a heavy hand in finding samples and creating their sound including playing their own instruments in some jams, because they originally were a punk-type band before discovering Hip Hop. They were right there near the ground floor of when Hip Hop took off, and they had a sick DJ, they just stayed true to old school Hip Hop. The reason IMHO they do sound 80s yet won Grammy in the 90s, was because so many of us knew of their history, and to see them back out with a new record, with new material yet true to the style they came from, was just cool to us old heads.

License To ill was my first album, it was so much fun as a kid and even more as i grew up and could understand what they were talking about. Throughout their career they always had fun with their music videos and took the video world by storm. Hey Ladies, Sabotage, You Gotta Fight (for Your Right to Party) all amazing groundbreaking videos definitely not the norm for the time. Have fun exploring these guys.

Their style was pretty consistent throughout their career in terms of rhyming, it had the nursery rhyme cadence which was big in the 80s, at least until Eric B & Rakim came along,

Mario Caldato (Mario C) is the producer of three of Beastie's most iconic albums and he, himself is an absolute legend in Hip-Hop and the entire music industry (collabing and producing for countless heavy hitters. He's way passed due on receiving his flowers). 100%

My favorite part of this song is that each verse has 18 lines that all rhyme. How many other songs have you ever heard that rhyme 18 lines in a row and do it twice? None!

They for sure are not mocking Hip Hop, they were there from day one. They just have silly lyrics. Great reaction looking forward to more. The song was more of a throwback than the rest of the album. They never followed ant trends. Mario C. was coproducer, they produce or coproduce all their own beats actually they do everything themselves. AdRock discovered LL Cool J and produced the beat for his first single "I Need a Beat." Their lyrics are usually not very deep but they always make you smile. They would often say the most important thing in the studio was to make each other crack up. You should check out some more songs ever album is completely different than the others. 1999 Grammy Nominees--"Intergalactic," Beastie Boys, "Money Ain't a Thang," Jermaine Dupri Featuring Jay-Z, "Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)," Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz, "Rosa Parks," OutKast, "Ghetto Supastar," Pras Michel Featuring Ol' Dirty Bastard and Mya.

Check out something early like "Paul Revere", check out "3 MC's and 1 DJ" and there's some good live videos of "Gratitude" where you can see them playing their instruments. "Sabatoge" is a necessity (official video or live). I'm subscribed in hopes that I see more Beastie Boys reactions.

It's funny you mentioned LL Cool J... I'm old now but I'm 85% sure they helped LL get his first contract. Public Enemy opened for them circa 1987....not everyone is hard. but still enjoy the beats...They fill a niche. Find the video of Chuck D and LL Cool J inducting them into the R&R hall of fame.

The Beasties loved hip hop as much as anyone.

As a huge Beasties fan over the years, I'm embarrassed to say I only discovered "Make Some Noise" a few years ago. The video has actors playing the Beasties and all the characters, so it's pretty amusing. But the beat and lyrics are classic Beastie Boys.

Car Thief is another you need to check out. Remember these guys were pure hip-hop fun.

I honestly envy you discovering the Beasties for the first time. Icons.

FYI - the Beastie Boys got LL Cool J broken into music - their producer was Rik Ruben - one of the 2 guys that founded Def Jam Records.

I'm not the biggest Beastie fan, but it's hard not to have fun when they're on. (and License To Ill is just a stone classic album)

A lot of Beasties songs are comical, tongue in cheek, and full of fun. They usually are making fun of how people naturally are. This is from the mid 90s. This is after they release 5 albums and 10 years after they were recording.

remember, Puff Daddy, Jay Z and all them came along about the year 1999 2000. This was before Biggie, before Tupac took off, and NWA had just finished their run. This was years after ICE T, Kool Moe DEE, who were still after the Beasties.

‘Em didn’t get his flow and rhymes from the BBoys, but I think you are correct that he inherited a lot of their satire and humor and DGAF attitude. If you want to hear more of Em’s influences in terms of flows/rhymes check out early Redman, Big L, and Pharoah Monch. The BBoys were from the early 80s scene and they were always happy doing their own thing so they always maintained that 80’s vibe to their MC style. But they always had fire beats, and also very unique beats, with lots of crazy beat switches…. one of their most consistent attributes. If you go back and listen you’ll see that 80’s beats sounds nothing like this.

I saw them on tour for this album, Hello Nasty. It was certainly one of the best shows I've ever seen.

They just always playing. Its all about fun with he B-Boys. Just good times. Great beats and bars. Lets have some fun!!!!

For me, "Licensed to Ill" was the definitive Beastie Boys album, because that album changed music for me in 1986. "Hold it Now, Hit It," "Slow and Low," "Paul Revere," "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" and "Brass Monkey" were all so fresh and new at the time. "Fight for Your Right" was the single. I guess if someone asked me, I'd say Beastie Boys best song is "Sabotage," but License to Ill defines them for me.

Beasties were all about keeping the 'doo-doo style' alive long after the sound of mainstream hip-hop had morphed into something different. the "80s flow" you are hearing, the 'doo doo style', was something they got from Run-DMC who they were very close with.

Tom green was a influence in that one Eminem video where he is a super hero, tom green did that on his MTV show before Eminem and Eminem just parody that

It's not a parody, but you're on the right track. It's an homage to the real OGs of hip hop (DJ Jazzy Jeff, Kool Moe Dee, etc). The Beastie Boys have always been keenly aware of the history of the genre. They honor that awareness by saluting their influences and adding to the fabric of hip hop in a hugely creative way.

When I heard the 3:09 minute mark on the song The new style off the first album "License to ill!" To put it in perspective it made me a hip hop head for life! Not this new rap or whatever it's called but story telling muthas! Like slick Rick, Scarface, and many more!
