Etta, Billie, Angelina. This is beyond . I’m looking forward to watching her growth. I dove down this rabbit hole last night and honestly am ashamed that it took me this long to find her and her blessing.

Angelina started singing when she was a year and a half old! She had a microphone in her crib singing along to Whitney Houston I Will Always Love You! It's about a 10 or 15 second clip. It is unbelievable. Regarding her voice, Angelina is known as the barefoot princess of 1,000 voices. Her voice may sound different in every song you hear. Sometimes the rasp and sometimes not. She can adjust the tone in the style and register of her voice to any song or genre she is singing. Basically she is a vocal chameleon.

I'm a proud Norwegian everytime i hear her sing, in perfect English at age 8 ...she is truly one off a kind.her musicality is off the charts even at that age ; ) great reaction buddy take care an stay safe , )

I recommend that you listen to Dinah Washington's rendition of "What a difference a day Makes" (1959). Angelina's phrasing and vibrato are so similar; however, her voice's softer and richer colors are even kinder to my ears.

This performance is where we all totally fell in love with her. She is 8 here. Do yourself a solid and search for the other two times she sings it live, at 9 then 10 yo. Each one is a little different as she develops more control over her voice. All three stunning..

She is just stunning. As you noted, "when did she learn to stand confidently out in the midst of a crowd, 100 ft in front of a live band and backup singers, and just calmly deliver complex vocals!?". And to do it SO WELL! Better imho than seasoned jazz stars from the era when jazz was king!

The original is from the late 50’s, sung by Dinah Washington. Angelina, as you noted, captures the era perfectly. You could be listening to a juke box from last century and this would fit in perfectly. Her covers of soul music are astonishing. That voice you heard today is so incredibly versatile. Since you liked her rasp and vocal fry today, you really need to watch her at 13 covering the fabulous Etta James song, I’d Rather Go Blind. It will show you how unique she is. It’s 100% Angelina, paying tribute to the original, but just making your jaw drop from the first note to an unbelievable finish.

God I'm old! Used to play Diana Washington singing this in Diners. Small juke box selector with tabs to flip through songs on the wall in each booth. Three songs for a quarter.

no joke .. she started at 18 months .. with focus .. 2 yrs old. Her grandma showed her how to get the songs and artists she liked on You tube .. no problem .. she be there literally hours and she would put on Billie Holiday and play a phrase over and over and over and then would try to figure out how to make her voice sound like Billie. (She recently said that if Billie hadn't been Billie Angelina wouldn't be who she is.) She could do this with the music for hours every day .. and her grandma, being a savant/ prodigy herself, totally supported her and let her do what she was called to do. (Her grandma is a very well known Iranian painter and artist.) So Angelina has been figuring out how her larynx and throat and lungs etc.. learning from the inside out .. would make the magnificent sounds she would hear from Billie, Ella, Etta, Sinatra etc.. etc.. oh .. and Whitney .. she loved Whitney. So the answer to your question is 2 .. she's been singing since she was 2. Insanely focused to get the sounds .. the riffs, the runs, melismas, the growl gently and not so gently .. phenomenal!
