Adam plays multiple instruments for real too! He gets his lung capacity and breath control from playing the trumpet. He has played trumpet since very young and majored in trumpet performance in college! Plays almost all of the reed and wind instruments, also drums, keyboard and electric bass guitar! EXTREMELY talented! I'm very glad that you checked out one of his videos and he is even better now! Thanks!

Believe it or not, some of the sounds he makes while inhaling. That's how he can do it without passing out. He learned enough drums to make the correct movements. This is like 6 years old so you can imagine how he has only gotten better. He now uses a live looper in the shows for his solo so essentially creates a song with layers of his sounds and beats live, at every live performance. Seriously, what he produces now on stage live...if he recorded it and put it out there to buy, I'd get it.

Okay, in case no one has told you yet, Home Free WON SEASON 4 of NBC's THE SING-OFF [Pentatonix won Season 3]. The Sing-Off is a LIVE A CAPELLA competition which means, no musical instruments allowed. This is what separates them from other singing competitions, i.e. American Idol, America's got Talent, among others. VoicePlay, another awesome A Capella Vocal group competed with Home Free in Season 4 and finished 5th but their videos are all over KZread and they're one of the favorites among fans of this genre. Adam Rupp is the co-founder of Home Free and he is known to have bested world beatboxing/vocal percussion at least twice. thanks

Yes, Adam can also sing. But he prefers beatboxing. And the reason he looks like he's hitting the right drums at the right time is that he learned to play drums so that his technique is correct. There have been several reactors that are drummers that have remarked on just how realistic his vocal drumming is in comparison to how they would do it on a real set.

His breath control must be crazy. I heard he makes the sounds both while inhaling & exhaling. This was a few years ago & hard to believe but he is even better now. Adam is the glue that holds Home Free together. He is their secret weapon which other a cappella groups can't match.

In the Home Free songs Working for a Living and Man of Constant Sorrow Adam does an amazing harmonica too. And if you listen carefully throughout Man of Constant Sorrow, as well as the first and last musical sounds you hear, you'll hear a Jew's harp, also called a jaw harp or mouth harp. That's not Adam, that's Chance, the guy in the black vest. Some have called it a didgeridoo, but a didgeridoo is the deeper notes you hear in this video, right after Tim says "deep in the Southern outback."

hehe Adam is known as a freak of nature. I contend he swallowed a drum kit when he was 5. I believe Chris, his brother, forced it down his throat because Chris new he was going to start an a cappella group. The trick is to learn to make each sound on both an inhale and exhale and/or organize a set where you make sounds that allow you to breath while still making a sound. If you listen closely you can almost hear the sounds he makes while inhaling and while exhaling.

One of many alien skills is that he does in fact breathe in through his nose while making noises with his mouth. The amount of air he can use through his mouth while doing it is tiny so it has to be incredibly quick. And all the air he's got for mouth noises has to be trapped in front of the vocal cords so he can't use voice while doing it. But he can sustain hi-hat noises at regular drumkit speeds for as long as he likes.

They call him the Freak of nature! They say he was always in trouble at school for making mouth noises as a kid. He made it pay though...

There were a lot of people who said that he’s not a real or true beatboxer and that Home Free uses real musical instruments. Well, this should prove them wrong. Them, meaning music critic’s

That is beat box at the highest level. Some of the sounds he makes are from his inhaling.
