Mostly agree with you, but you are incorrect about auto-tuning. ABBA were actually one of the pioneers (after Stevie Wonder) to feature Auto-tuning in their NON-US release "Under Attack" song from 1982. The lyrics "You know that I'm nobody's fool", and "I'm kind of flattered i suppose" are both auto-tuned. "Under Attack" is one of the best and most underrated ABBA songs. It would be the final song they release before a 40 year breakup! "Under Attack" was released in 6 countries (Australia,Belgium,Germany,Ireland,UK, Netherlands), a timeless song featuring great writing and mixing, a throbbing non-stop beat, and great vocal layering/harmonizing. No doubt would be successful if released in the US and Canada next time!

But there is a line in the 2nd to last verse."The Game is on Again, A Lover or a Friend". So it sounds like there is something else going on. Then in last verse, if the subject switches to the "new" girl, the ending is way different. She says "You've come to shake my hand". Why would the Ex shake her hand?. I think it was the "other" girl, who shook her hand. Because she was the "Winner". Just a take on it. The last verse makes no sense if she was talking to the Ex.

ABBA is the third succesfull group of all times, the only one beside the Beatles who created a "mainia", the "Abbamainia". They influenced Pop music more than most of all other groups with numberless banger hits. And, important, they are from Sweden, not out of US or GB music buissenes. They consited of two couples, one month bevor the recording of this song, one of the coupple was devorced. The ex husband Björn wrote the lyrics of the song that his ex wife Agneta sings. Incredible story and profesionality. Thats why it is so true in the emotions. 2021 they made a comeback after 40 years not doing anything as a group.

It never ceases to amaze me how the “artists” who were supposedly “inspired” by classics bands seemed to only be inspired by the songs themselves and not the idea of actually picking up an instrument and learning to play like they did back then. Since the 90’s, pop music has been all about the “Me! Me! Me! Look at me dancing and singing to an audio track of my own voice. Aren’t I cute?” Very few young people bother being actual “bands” anymore. I can only think of Greta Van Fleet at the moment.

ABBA's catalogue of hits worldwide is huge and ridiculously good! Only pretty much the US that mostly missed out. Their collection album ABBA Gold has been in the UK top 100 for over 1000 weeks - yes 1000 weeks. You need to see them in action, try any of their other 19 worldwide number 1's Gimme Gimme Gimme, Mamma Mia, SOS, Dancing Queen, Fernando, Chiquitita, Knowing Me Knowing You, Money Money Money,, The Name of the Game, Super Trouper, Take a Chance on Me, I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do, One of Us, Ring Ring, Summer Night City, I have a Dream, Head Over Heels, Don't Shut Me Down. But really, dozens of other superb tracks including Voulez Vous, I Am The City, Eagle, The Day Before You Came, Lay All Your Love On Me, So Long, Does Your Mother Know, ... you get the idea! If you want to see what the band looked like in their heyday try the vid 'If it wasn't for the nights original broadcast 1978' in Japan.

ABBA were (and remain) international superstars 70s thru 90s, but were mocked in the U.S. for corny lyrics since English was not their native language. Oh you can't go wrong with anything and all from ABBA. They are one of the best out there and probably one of the top groups that ppl wouldn't admit to listening or liking back in the day but did 😁

ABBA is made from the first letter of each members name. They are two married couples. The guitar player divorced the blond and wrote the dong. The other couple also divorced.

Yes, they were two couples and they both divorced which essentially broke up the band up until 2021 when they got back together (as a band). If you like ABBA's harmonies, check out EAGLE, Chiquita, Fernando, or Knowing Me, Knowing You!! ABBA were music video pioneers, you should check out their official clips to get the full ABBA effect :D

ABBA is one of those rabbit holes that will take you a while. Grew up in the 70’s and was a rock/soul nut and saw ABBA as “uncool” but they have always been a guilty pleasure. Perfectly crafted pop songs that just grab you,and they have SO many.

Both women sang lead vocals in different songs. Agnetha has a soprano voice while Frida is a mezzo soprano. One of the songs she sings lead vocal on is " Like an angel passing through my room" from their album The Visitors.

Even though not a household name in USA,ABBA were/are HUUUGE elsewhere in the music globe. The 2nd best selling group in history of recorded music right after the Beatles with 400milion records sold and still heading on.After 4 decades of hiatus they came back 2 months ago with a new lp and blasted to no1 spot almost everywhere(even No2 in USA) causing hysteria and tears to their permanent mega fanbase of any age. They are legends but 4 very humble, adorable people.

@@malkamusikSince I've lived that era real time,i recall they were quite succesful in USA, but not the same scale as in the rest of the world.USA music press was rather hostile and unfair to them cause twas a different music culture there. They had to tour tooo much to be established in the States cause It was mainly a rock n' roll, soul n country music market while Abba were often dismissed as "pap" or "disco crap" which was criminally unfair. But they didn't care anymore to make it as big cause the were a culture and comercial phenomenon almost everywhere else so it was fine by them.Nowadays they are more acknowledged in there.Better late than never.

Thanks for the ABBA. They have many many many songs. Pretty much of every genre. The two female singers (Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad) could and still can fall into those harmonies effortlessly. It's known as the 3rd voice or the voice of ABBA. I'm sure others have filled you in on their story and the story of this song so I'll skip it. But if your not familiar with their work I would encourage you to become so. The are rated as one of the best pop groups ever. I mean their huge worldwide.

BJ is correct here. They are a swedish group and ABBA are the initials of Agnetha, Björn, Benny, Anni-Frid. Benny and Anni-Frid (Frida) was married, and Björn and Agnetha was married. This song is actually a divorce-song which is why i said BJ was correct! :D I believe (People correct me if i am wrong) Björn wrote this for Agnetha to sing when they got divorced. You guys should check out the music video or the "live" performance. really sad and you really see Agnetha feeling emotional while performing. Love for you to check out more of ABBA. Agnetha has the main vocals here, but one of the most beutiful things about ABBAs songs is the wonderful harmony between Agnetha and Frida. All four of them sing in a lot of songs too. :)
