One of the best rock bands in the world
No one ever gave artimus Pyle the drummer the credit deserved, he kept a strong backbeat flowing in all their songs.
@stevea3271
Жыл бұрын
FWIW, it wasn't Artimus Pyle who played drums on this track. It was Bob Burns. But both were great. And most don't know that Rickey Medlocke played drums for Skynyrd (before Bob) on the "First and Last" album, only to leave and form Blackfoot (of Highway Song and Train, Train fame) and then return as one of Skynyrd's lead guitarists in the post-crash lineup. Rickey still plays for Skynyrd to this day. Only Gary Rossington (and Rickey) are left from the pre-crash days, all the rest RIP.
I really appreciate young people loving classic rock.
Good pick Jay! Hard to believe this was recorded in 1973... If you do "Free Bird" make sure you listen to the album version, Skynyrd is a very deep "Rabbit Hole" with some of the best music you will ever hear!

Agree, Tuesday's Gone is fantastic.
Forget people's suggestions simply listen to everything they ever did but listen to versions done before 1978 + First And Last album. But when you do Freebird do Freebird live at Oakland coliseum 1977 three months before the plane crash. I'm sure you will love each and every one of their songs because they wrote and played for the fans. Live long and prosper brother man 😎
Hey fellas don't forget about The Ballad of Curtis Lowe. One great freaking song! Jay you will love it❗
And don't forget there's someone up above
Saw them play this live. There were people around me, and I mean me as well, with tears on their cheeks.
This is one of my favourite songs of all time! I love the lyrics because it always make me think of my mother. She would tell me a similar message growing up and always be wishing for my success and happiness. I'm 40 and I still consider my mother my best friend and the best woman in my life. Thanks for reacting to this bro! Glad you like the song and appreciate the lyrics as well.
You mentioned Free Bird; there is a really excellent live version of that song here on youtube last time I checked. My personal fav Lynyrd Skynrd is "On the Hunt."
Check out That Smell, Saturday Night Special, Gimme Three Steps, and Tuesday’s Gone
Since you're a drummer, you must listen to Mississippi Queen, by Mountain. Cheers.

@@ritayprice3510 As much as I like Call Me the Breeze, I like T for Texas just a little bit better. Something about the guitars trading off. Both are JJ Cale covers and great blues rock tunes
I have listened to this song for years now and everytime I hear it, l have to admit that l cry everytime, l have only one son and one grandson and l would love to dedicate this song to them💖
Lynyrd Skynyd and The Allman Brothers best southern rock ever..

that north Florida/South Georgia part of the south just kills it musically
This song is a miracle.
And the producer (Al Kooper) didn't think this song was good enough to go on tbe album! Ronnie Van Zant told him yes it is going on the album.

LOL yep Ronnie walked him out of the studio put him in his Bentley and said something like " We'll let you know when we've finished the song".
One of those timeless classics everyone needs to hear
I've always loved this song,and it's message.
A Masterpiece no other band like these guys every song tells a story 👍👍
I wish maybe a few times per year every American would put on a set of headphones and hear something from a culture they don't fully understand and have an experience like this.

great comment man! North Florida and South Georgia have produced some of the heaviest hitters in the American must scene for sure
Lynyrd Skynyrd's 'Dead Man Walking' is an overlooked but brilliant song. So is 'The Way'. Also, 'Saturday Night Special'.
One of the best tunes ever written
Do "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew" for the story. Do "I Know A Little" for some good ol' fashioned high-octane boogie featuring one of my favorite scorching piano breaks ever, courtesy of the late great Billy Powell.
Mamma can spit some bars! Who would have thunk it? When she does, everyone should listen. Welcome to your next rabbit hole. I'll bet almost anything you've heard "Free Bird" before and will realize it once you "listen" to it. In today's climate, I would love to see a reaction to, "Gimme Back My Bullets".
You had your eyes closed. You felt it.
People need this advice more than ever. Constantly seeing all the fake, extravagant lives on social media, creates the impression we need that to be happy. We don’t know how to be satisfied with the simple things anymore.
Glad u picked up on the drum work on this fire track. That rythym section is tight as a ducks ass
"That Smell" is my favorite song by Lynyrd Skynyrd.... The guitars are amazing.
Welcome to the greatest American band in history ..enjoy the ride
Legendary band died young plane crash took the lives of lead singer, lead guitarist and backup singer in 1977
They have a lot of great songs. My favorite old school band. These guys were poets with profound messages. Try "Tuesdays Gone " and "That Smell" Just for starters.
Timeless song and sound here. This one always gives me goosebumps.
You've heard Sweet Home Alabama, even if you dont realize it. I would request Ballad of Curtis Loew. With Free Bird needs to be live to see the crowds react.
Freebird live at Knebworth. I promise you want to see that guitar solo live! Ronnie never wrote lyrics down he just had the guitar players to play whatever new music they were working on and he would just come up with lyrics. This was a hell of a band I think you are really going to appreciate the more you hear. Great reaction
all the ones others mentioned plus -" All I can do is write about it"

Please please please do the studio version First of Freebird before alive I think that's kind of a recommendation for all music you should hear the way the band first reported it and then enjoy the Nuance of the live performance
Loved that you took the time to talk about how meaningful some of the lines in this song are. You're getting some timeless songs under your belt. This song in particular hits deep
Great reaction! It was awesome seeing you respond to not only the music but feeling the lyrics as well :)
Every man needs to hear these loving and reassuring words of golden wisdom from the heart.
They have many great songs. Thanks for your reactions! ✌
Love your reaction, man! It was the same for me the first time that I listened to it. God Bless you, brother.
I really appreciate the respect you show, not faking things, great music line-up. New Sub.
Oh man, there are soo many Skynyrd songs to recommend lol. Free Bird is a must. But That Smell, The Ballad of Curtis Loew, Needle and the Spoon, Call Me The Breeze, Gimme 3 Steps, I Need You, are just some of the many greats that definately need to be on the channel.

My mom just past in June. She dedicated this song to me when I was 10. It meant a lot to me back then. Even more so now more than ever
Please please please do the studio version First of Freebird before the live I think that's kind of a recommendation for all music you should hear the way the band first recorded it and then enjoy the Nuance of the live performances
I can’t believe no one has mentioned SWEET HOME ALABAMA!
Great to watch you and see your heart speak on great music….love you brother
Always one of my faves brother..glad you liked it
I wish my mother had even a quarter of the wisdom of his mother . Great song
Ronnie had this song down in 3 minute's. Ronnie's mom told he this when he was a young boy. Greatest Southern Rock Band in the WORLD! Nobody come's close to these guy's. MY BAND!
Hello from Cody Wyoming! You're awesome keep it up🤠
A rock band from my teenage years. Simply great sound and message.
Got my sub for listening to good music and to encourage ;)
Sweet home Alabama is another amazing song they did too. Definitely worth a listen
Nice Reaction! Here are a few that don’t get many reactions but should, Gimme back my Bullets, Things going on, Cheatin Woman and I need You. One of the best bands Ever always gave us good advice.

Great song, great reaction!
Love this one!
Love to see you young people discover the excellent 70’s music ❤️
I saw them 6 times in concert in the 1970's - EVERY time they came to Colorado!
Was lucky enough to see them live with front row center seats. Don't forget Sweet Home Alabama
"Soulshine" by the Allman Brothers. Another rabbit hole to go down.
Ronnie van Zant one of the best songwriters of all time and yet only lived a short life, imagine had he lived 30 or 40 more years.

if van zant didnt get killed synyrd would have been the most popular band in history
"Tuesdays Gone" "Curtis Lowe" "Call Me The Breeze" "Working For MCA" Just to name a few my brother. Fyi- They all need to be heard from the original Skynyrd line-up. Digitally remastered studio version...
Rockin it😎
that lyrics simple and beautiful. if every man doing like that,we not have wars or racism. if i can choose only 2 band from usa, this band and metallica go with me. thanx jay and have great day there.
If you want some rockin' songs from Skynyrd try, Whisky Rock a Roller, Gimmie Three Steps, Down South Junkin', I Know A Little, or if you're looking for just good, heartfelt songs try, The Ballad of Curtis Loew, Tuesday's Gone or Comin' Home. They did it all.
Rvz the most haunting and mesmerizing voice to ever hit the stage RIP free birds
Jow Jay, thats what we older guys called: Good old rock!
My all time favorite Skynyrd song.
Awesome words to live by.
Beautiful song!
I love Tuesday's Gone :)) And Freebird of course!
Every mom should play this song for their sons!
and just like that a skinner fan.....forever
thank you for your wisdom ,if it's raining outside , the sun is shining somewhere, thank you from a 52 year old man,
Their live album, One More From the Road is a great album. For something a little different with focus on drums, Wipeout by The Ventures from Japan in 1966. No words just jamming guitars and drums.
He never wrote anything down on paper he remembered every word to the songs
It amazes me that Ronnie would hear the band playing a riff and then come up with the lyrics in his head which ultimately came up with the song
This is one of those bands that I didnt even need to watch you react, although I did, in order to like the video. Skynyrd is like RUSH, in a class of their own
Free Bird Studio Version
The greatest southern rock band of all time 💪💪🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Your next Lynyrd Skynyrd song should be "That smell"
Lynyrd Skynrd’s “You got that right”
