The best way is to get a RC simulator on PC. I got one from Horizon Hobby. Then, get a foam airplane. Twisted hobbies have a lot of great choices. I recommend the 32" Crack Yak. It was my favorite plane for a long time. It's fairly cheap and almost indestructible.

It is indeed a Knife Edge Spin. Think of it as flying knife edge (holding rudder) and with maximum down elevator (to make it spin itself). The manouver itself is actually very easy up to this point, the difficulty is that it doesnt want to come down straight, so you need to be fast with the ailerons to keep the wing vertical, because as soon as its off vertical, the wings draw a cone shape and the plane pulls itself away from the spin. Start from a stalled knife edge (no forward speed), apply the down and see how it goes… the straighter the wings are kept with the ailerons, the longer the spin will go for. Good luck!

Budget wise, there’s blue bird servos, I’ve heard they are quite good. I’ve had good luck with Savox, and pilot RC make nice servos too. I’ve gone off Hitec a bit (not really budget) because of some failures in the lower end / smaller servos. There’s “no name” servos that can perform well, wouldn’t expect much from service n support. It’s like anything really. Depends on your model and what you want from it. A set of MKS high end servos will cost as much as the airframe itself. For regular flying mid range savox or hitec etc will suffice

  • @grammophonecat

bigger planes fly better, and are easier to see. There’s a limit in size of course, that’s why most people agree that 120-130cc class is the “best” size. Bigger and it becomes too scale like and needs flying slower, the maneuvers are slower and more like full scale. This size can also be transported in normal cars if you’re creative with the rudder and stabs, can easily fit in a station wagon or suv. There’s still a ways to go in size to carry people and cargo… you should try it some time.
